Good one, Ian. Appreciate the effort of beautifying Porter's concept with bit of focus/inclination of Supply Chain. Have a curiosity though "considering the term Supply Chain was gaining momentum when Porter had introduced the term Value Chain what do you think how both went parallel till this date, and now we businesses have started looking at whole value chain than just doing Supply Chain and other functions as Silos"

I would need more context for the question. It depends upon what you're looking at. Are you referring to sales, profit, efficiency, production throughput? Some companies keep it simple with an (Return on Asset) analysis, but it really depends upon what you want to measure and for how long. It could be sales, gross profit, net profit, market share etc.

Hi dubdizzle 2000 Honestly, a good source would include this one: (you';ll have to search for it on Google, but it's the exact title. "Value-chain Analysis for Comparing Competitive Advantage" It's a PDF document done by a management consulting firm. It's a little heavy in terms of reading, but it covers everything you might want to apply a value-chain analysis to.
