Please stop lying to yourself. They were not tougher than today's players and the games were not more exciting the reason I know is because I am old enough to remember the complaints about low scoring games. There is a reason the NBA changed the rules cause white fans were getting offended and Black people on TV were whining about all the fighting. Now they are complaining that the game is not tough enough. As long as the NBA is a Black league people will always find something to hate on them about. Funny how they say that the NBA in is in it's downfall but they just signed a 10 year TV deal and it was reported yesterday that within the next 5 years we will have a player making 100 million dollars a year.

Scottie hit the nail on the head. The players deep down hate the fans. Only explanation for the amount of load management they take. They’ve become Hollywood celebrities who are detached from the costumers
@justified004
@justified004 14 күн бұрын
Im not going to completely blame the players for load management. Owners, teams, and the league started it and pushed it for years. Let's not forget that Coach Pop started it with the Spurs. We saw this year the Sixers unilaterally decided what games to sit Embid before the season even started. The league let the genie out of the bottle and now they want to stuff it back in.
@masielle1
@masielle1 13 күн бұрын
@@justified004Coach Pop had an older team and it’s the reason he load managed keep the team fresh. Also you’re ignoring the fact that it was the head coach making the decision not the players as they do now.

@justified004
@justified004 12 күн бұрын
@masielle1 you clearly didn't read what I said because I didn't ignore anything. I know Pop is a coach but i said the teams and the league started and pushed it. Who cares about their reasons or if it was an older team. Kareem was playing 80 games a year late in his career, including when he was 40 and hurt. Jordan played 82 every year of the 2nd 3-peat. Not to mention his final year as a Wizard when he was 39. The point is that age never used to matter until Pop did it. As I said, the teams started it and now they want to take it back, except when it's their own guy like the Sixers with Embid. It was only a matter of time before the players started abusing it or using it to their own advantage. A parent can't display bad behavior, then get mad when their kids do the same thing. The league created the problem and never had rules against it.

I been watching sports so long I really don’t need any opinions from the talking heads perspective they are who is taking the fun out of it. Telling us over and over what is good and what’s not, I can determine that for myself and I don’t have to constantly compare the current action with the past to enjoy it either. Man sports only needs a play by play guy and a color analyst, once they brought in the talk show formats the fun was over, it’s all drama and negativity now.

Detroit Pistons played tough physical defense; and NBA allowed it. It forced Michael Jordan to do a 180 mid-air spin lay-up around Bill Laimbeer. Or the slug fest between Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks in the 1992 and 1993 NBA playoffs. That is why NBA fans loved the 1980~1990's era. To make shots, it was more difficult, so you appreciate all the shots that were made.

Finally, someone speaks the truth about the NBA. The biggest problem is the outrageous guaranteed contracts that changed players into " Moguls In Short Pants"! Just because the Media has ignored it doesn't mean it is not huge and obvious. Players are human and all are changed by becoming " quarter of a billionaires ". This eliminates motivation, and the desire and need to perform better, care about the team, fans, or City, or even play. This is problem no one!

Just an observation, I see people like PBD who say things like “I used to follow the game”. And it’s crazy to me how if I’m being honest, I don’t know a single NBA fan in my life today. Honestly, I can’t think of one person who really loves a team or a player anymore. Who watches on a weekly basis, follows stats, etc. The NBA should commit to going overseas more and more. All of your top guys who will be winning chips for the next decade are international stars. Whether the US fans left basketball, or basketball left the US fans. I think that it’s time to admit the American era of basketball will end when LeBron, KD, and Steph are gone. There are no more American stars beloved after them. MJ birthed the American era of basketball, then Kobe and LeBron were able to ride that coat tail for a little while. But that era isn’t the sport anymore. MJ (American), Kobe(American), Lebron(American), Curry(American) NBA top stars today: Luka( not born in America), Jokic( not born in America, Giannis ( not born in America), Wemby ( not born in America) , Shai ( not born in America)

I remember the hate for Allen Iverson from fans like that. They are docile and usually racist so when they see the players getting more independence and control over their careers they get apprehensive and start yearning for the good ol' days of the corrupt David Stern. They'll cry about too many 3s then ignore year after year of long twos, constant bricks, and straight up getting blown by over and over again. Michael and scottie always played every game and were 1st or 2nd team all defense every year. Not only did they play they always played hard. Heck say what you want about Rodman; he always played hard. Problem with the NBA now. They should have removed playoff teams not expanded the playoffs. If they only 4 teams in each conference made the playoffs you couldn't just coast and rest knowing you'd still make playoffs no matter what. More than half the teams make the playoffs lol Also the three pointer has killed the game at this point. The game isn't physical or fun. Only way to fix that either move the line back or make it so you can only shoot 3s last 3 mins of every quarter or get rid of it completely

Ppl seem to take pro sports as granted, and as though they will always be here. Pro sports have been a very short phenomenon on the timescale of human existence, and they will eventually fall out as human interests change.

Exactly… players want to get paid the big bucks but they don’t want to play all 82 games. Or they might not even play hard. Feel sorry for fans who go to games just to find out that the team best players are sitting out. Due to load management or minor injuries. Players don’t care about winning, fans, the team because it is all about money.

In all sports the media has started defining players character, career, and legacy by playoffs only. Look at the nfl. Win a playoff game and the qb is called a top 5 qb already. Lose a playoff game regardless of how good the regular season was and they are a bum. Players responded by insuring they are healthy come playoff time. Why play through injuries if at the end of the day the context is forgotten and people are only judged by stats and wins/losses.

AND once the player shift happened the league began to plummet. Me before team does not engage a true fan base. Fans become like players and hop from team to team.

But didn't Silver worked under Stern and was an assistant of his for many years? Do i remember that correctly? How TF did Silver then become such a softie and doesn't even mind getting crushed by the players? He bends the knee to everything they want. The in-season cup in complete garbage, the all-star weekend is even worse, players rest whenever TF they want. A fan yells at a player 'Lebron you're soft' and the fan gets ejected. David Stern was a POS yes, but was also the GOAT commisioner that truly run the league perfectly.

Not load management but the lack of appreciation of defense and constant 3pt shooting is the reason why the NBA doesn't seem attractive anymore

Adam silver making the league requirement of 65 games played to qualify for season awards etc, was one of the worse things he did to so called combat load management. You're telling these cats they can miss 17 games a year and still get rewarded smh. Dude is a joke. Missing 17 games every year is a doggon a lot of games to miss for an NBA season. The league under his watch is the worse in history when it doesn't even have to be this way. He purposely made it this way.

The reason the NBA is flopping in my opinion, it’s because it’s boring. It’s too easy to make points. There is no real defense bc the overwhelming emphasis on “player safety” and the fact that players have abused that fouling system. The pendulum has indeed swung too far and it's really frustrating to see people deny that offensive numbers are being juiced. My fear is that the regular season will increasingly come to resemble the low effort joke that the all-star game has become and we'll have to hear that guys are putting up 70 points every other week because it's the most “talented ever era”. 😅

The NBA lost its Pipeline. It's a beautiful thing when the public watches a kid get buzz in high school. Go to their favorite college, get drafted in the first round to an NBA franchise and have an amazing career. This is why the NFL ratings are constantly increasing. Now the NBA is too international!
