I've heard this in business school described as "Window and mirror". When you do well, you use the window and think about others who have helped and made it happen. When you fail, you look at the mirror. It's super important for your team to see you do this. Obviously internally and psychologically, you have to be fair to yourself :)

It's VERY obvious to me that Tom Brady was & is driven and behind that winning drive is his ATTITUDE & MINDSET. He explain that teamwork involved caring about each others success to the point that they are sharing a winning strategy of CONSISTENT DISCIPLINE to show up for every practice, doing all of the encouraging things to be A TEAM. Remaining coachable to improve, having a WORK ETHIC that most other teams might not have so that "going the extra mile" with consistent effort becomes a daily habit and the unbeatable quality of persistence. His CANDID & GENUINE discussions are a breathe of fresh air. He's not boasting just sharing his winning formula. As with anything in life, it's all THE RIGHT ATTITUDE & MINDSET. I admire Tim Brady. Others too. However, probably Brady more than anyone. What a winner!

Tom had a SB record game performance, and the team lost the game, then next SB he won, he didnt have a record performance but the team won the SB!!! Yes, culture imo is also determined by the senior members of your team... Those who are not rookie or 'new' anymore, but not yet at management level. Those senior members are basically the glue of any department, because they help the new people get onboard - and help communicate essential info to the rest of the team and upper-management, etc. If your senior team members are toxic - it won't matter how great your upper management is - or how accomplished your new recruits are - there will be no cohesion within the team / department.

Obviously it worked for TB and they won a SB doing it. But also look at the Jets and how they did it and it has torched them now.

It’s kinda crazy to look at what he was paid over his career and to see that the money the Bucs paid him for three seasons was +/- 38% of the amount he was paid for the 20 seasons he played for the Pats. He's really did take a lot less than he theoretically could have been paid for the entire time. And even the larger salary paid by the Bucs over the Pats wasn’t immensely higher than what he made in the final year in NE nor was it the most in the league. In his highest paid year in NE, which was his last year there, he was 13th in the league for average annual salary among QBs. When he went to the Bucs for 2 years/$50M, a small raise over that final NE year, he dropped to 14 in average salary per year. And then in the final Bucs year he took a final team friendly deal, even when the money he had been making was middle of the league anyways, for one year that paid him $10M less than before. And he was 15th in the league for average per year. From what is out there it seems like he finally left because he wasn’t appreciated for the sacrifices he’d made his entire career in always taking less money than the market which he continued doing even when he left to make a bit more elsewhere. And even after making less than he could have he signed restructured deals three times on top of things. So his alleged frustration about the lack of appreciation over all the team friendly deals he’d taken, having no input into how they allocated the money he was saving them, and the lack of a multi year commitment to him makes sense. I didn’t blame Bill for wanting to begin to plan past Tom in 2016 or so because since Tom’s departure we’ve seen how quickly the decline can be without somebody ready to fill that role and having to out of the blue find a replacement to be the QB and how it’s affected the team. But I also understand Tom expecting that commitment and that maybe the team would sacrifice a couple seasons to let him end his way in light of the multitude of times where Tom sacrificed for the team. The lack of reciprocation is unfortunate and reasonable considering the guy asking for it did so much on his end to warrant being allowed to end his own way. It’s pretty sad when you see a brand new team like Tampa on those things for him and pay him what he was owed, not ask him to return money to then they could’ve pushed for, and after all of that eat a giant charge against their cap after his exit yet allow him to handle everything his way with a three year relationship but NE not be willing to do that after 20 years and tons of sacrifices from Tom. He deserved a much better ending there than he got but the pivot out solidified any criticism of his role beyond rationale argument.
