Think of the butterfly effect too. A tragic individual might haunt a family for generations to come (or might not even reproduce in such case), as equally as an upright individual can galvanize a family for generations. Not to mention the effect on people adjacent to them and their offspring. The sum total of that can become a pretty seismic difference in a whole community or even society potentially over time from one individual. It makes me think a lot about my maternal grandparents who lived in unbelievably tough and tragic times and lived for their children and grandchildren, there's a total of 4 of us grandchildren now who have every opportunity for us because they lived unbelievably courageously.

What I like about his way of expression is that he doesn't try to force his position upon people that simply won't consider his perspective and are to full of themselves to have a serious conversation. The more I watch JBP, the more I realize he is a father to the fatherless. Here is a little of my background and hopefully this bolsters my statement appropriately. My parents divorced at 17. I had a comparatively good childhood but I missed out on the part of the maturation process that really cemented my ability to say no to my own temptations. I feel that one of the masculine role model's responsibilities is to help curb your wants in place of attaining your needs, or at the least sacrificing for your future self. JBP has had me in tears, broken me down and rebuilt me through his wisdom that I missed out on. Thank you JBP, and Patrick for hosting him and asking extremely poignant questions, for giving me the pieces to put my life back together. It's still on me to make good on your wisdom, however without your guidance I would not be in the stable position, both financially and most importantly mentally, that I am today. edit: spelling

I guess when you consider all the hate that there is in the world, it gets passed around a lot. I don't think Jordan would admit it, not publicly at least, but I believe he's given plenty of indication that he actually uses the things, the ideals, and perhaps even the people he detests, in order to fuel his motivation to combat such entities. Personally I have as much love for JP as any other human that isn't my direct relative or friend, however I still have many trust issues with him, as I have witnessed him to be a master propagandist at times, even as much or more so than many of the propagandists who like to challenge him, and whom he appears to be disgusted with so often.

@Rick-the-Swift2 жыл бұрын
I don't think history will be as kind as you. You should realize there are a plethora of people who believe as you do that Jordan is important and ground breaking, while a good many others, who are growing in numbers every day, who are coming around and realizing that he, like so many other modern influencers, is really more of a propagandist than he is saying anything new. Socrates changed the way humans thought forever, while Jordan really just scratches the itches that many conservatives have, and puts salve on their wounds, caused by the politics of the day, which mostly labels them as bad, intolerable people. If I could show you one video where it was clearly being demonstrated that Jordan is simply using clever, but rather old debating tactics in order to drive home the illusion that what he says is truthful, then imagine how that higher truth would begin to replace Jordan's often lower truth, which often relies on false statistics. Also take into consideration we are living in a day and age where people are craving higher truths more than ever, due to all the manipulation of information that's been wide spread for so many years now. When enough people are able to not only see the many flaws in Jordan's approach, but to also help explain it to others, I could see his work being shredded by the public in general in just a few short years relatively speaking.
@CasualDandyAkaSqwrty Жыл бұрын
@@Rick-the-Swift I agree with you to a point, Rick. As he gets older, he leans on saying 'the leftists' more often, blaming them for ideas that are destructive. In this 4-year-old presentation, he was much more charitable to the full spectrum of personalities. Dr. Peterson is doing what he does 100 percent, and his beginnings focused on how roads paved to Hell ended up that way. Today he seems to continue this way, but time moves on and not every task requires the same hammer, so to speak. In my eyes, Dr. Peterson was and is an answer to tyranny of this time. His methods are proven (changes in people's lives across continents), but they are also dated to this decade. The pendulum swings both ways. JBP has pointed out authoritarian oversteps globally and tyranny that we face in ourselves through deep truths he has curated. Our course has been corrected to some extent, and as we take stock of our current surroundings we must decide what will be our new direction given our new setting. Dr. Peterson's work has guided many people to reconnect with archetypal stories, brought back meaning from dusty proverbs, and has influenced many people to emotionally connect with their spiritual side. I think the direction the pendulum now takes is that WE MUST form whole communities again through this spiritual renaissance. I think JBP compartmentalized our society, intentionally or not, by helping us define our personalities. It's up to us now to integrate once more and become stronger for it. He's a libertarian-gone-conservative, and balance would see the next great thinker to be a conservative who becomes a liberal, and one who comes by it honestly and lovingly.

It's not correct. Shi is both position and trajectory, just as a vector is. Shi is even more complex than a vector. But in a vector you need both. The FEELING and PROCESS of the trajectory is more important than the position, but that's the subjective. Obviously the objective facts of your position are - at the moment - the most pertinent teacher. Contextually he is trying to convey something, but don't take it over literally. So it might be "sad" that the University screwed up and he's no longer lecturing directly to students, but (also thanks to them!), he's simply *teaching to a MUCH wider audience!* Hahahaha In short, he simply outgrew the University lecture halls. I grew up in a loving home but I was mostly raised by my grandparents who lived through the Great Depression. The house was chaotic and they were borderline hoarders. When I was becoming a young adult out of high school, I had carpet laid in my room, washed the walls and put on fresh paint, scraped the popcorn off the ceiling and painted it and this pattern continued outside of my room. I pulled all the weeds out of the yard and cleaned the garage. It was the start of me taking control over those things around me that I could, and I just knew it would inwardly permeate my well being. I put myself in college. I started working out and eating well. It was a snowball affect that all started with cleaning my room. I was such an introvert and realized I had to change the place I spent all my time. I wanted my room to reflect how I wanted to feel inside. Anyways, I think I drove home my point. Jordan is spot on.

I've heard a lot of people from that generation (including my own grandparents) hoarding stuff. Would love to see a study of the physiological effects that event did to people.

It is a fascinating subject to investigate. simplistic answer was you horde because anything might me reworked into something useful or worth a cent or 2 which could be the difference between eating that day or going hungry!

I think my favorite part of listening to Dr. Peterson is reading the comments. I used to think I was solely the only person who felt they suffered greatly, which sounds incredibly pompous and self-important now, but back when I was younger I didn't see everyone else's suffering at all. Now I look around at my generation and I see people struggling with issues that I faced at a younger age, things that I still fight with, and problems I've never even considered. It made me realize how unique every person is, which is something I used to acknowledge but I could never truly appreciate until I gained this perspective. In "12 Rules for Life: An Antidote got Chaos", Dr. Peterson has a segment where his friend gifts Dr. Peterson (by Jordan's request) a pen with LEDs facing to it's point. This small piece towards the end of the book had an incredible impact on me, as it became an entirely symbolic item that inspired both Dr. Peterson and myself. "What shall I write with my new found pen of light" asks Dr. Peterson to the aether. The answer he writes does is profound: "Something you want inscribed upon your soul". When I read that I was several thousand feet in the air, suffering for the first time in my life from severe vertigo from my inner ear being flooded with fluids. I had spent the entire trip viewing the program my school district is implementing and feeling the effects of being mostly def due to the pressurized cabin. My head hurt, my joints ached, and I was spiraling in the closest thing to hell I had experienced in years, but I was fulfilled. The suffering was worth it. So when I read "Something you want inscribed upon your soul", I too wrote down the question "What should I write with my new found pen of light?" I wish I could say I wrote the answer, but it wasn't me. It was something writing through me, a feeling I can neither describe nor understand, and it wrote "suffer in a worthy direction". When I inquired further, it brought to me a realization that every person was suffering immensely in their lives, some fighting cancer, some fighting themselves. I had fought so much in my life that reading that answer didn't seem remarkable or new but instead something that I believed deeply made tangible. So if you've made it this far my friend, remember that you will suffer in every direction in life, that it may be easier in some ways and harder in others, and that what you're suffering through is a choice you have made. So I ask you, are you suffering in a worthwhile direction?

Bless you Charles, your honesty and self assurance has grown over time. Be you, you are the most important person in your life form what your sense tell you and if you look in the mirror as you do, you can make others feel that way too, bless you indeed.

Amen. Life is short, but it is also long, eh? A great therapist with whom I trained many years ago wisely said that we are always doing what some part of us wants to do. Over time, we wander even into suffering we want in some way....

Jordan, I've been trying to pin down the essence of why I like watching you so much. It's not purely intellect, but the careful honesty and thoughtfulness placed on every word; delivered as if you were speaking to someone you really care about. Those qualities evoke trust, which allows one to be truly open and hear what is being said. The reaction of the audience raised my hope for humanity, as it resonated with my own. Thank you for just being you.

Yes, we need wise good father figures, partly "old-fashioned" as you say javier josefides, but updated for the modern era, with fairness, openness and balance. Strong, but not domineering father for the 21st century.

I’m trying to get caught up on the crazy stuff with this guy I love it and I’m new to listening to him but it’s just how stupid can you be to have issues with a guy who knows what he is talking about and I don’t know how to look at it but nobody likes being wrong or hearing certain things or they’ll make judgement in a few minutes or whatever they’ll change it before they’re aware of what someone even thinks of something and it happens but it’s not his fault that so many people are stupid and have no idea about big picture and are wearing blinders and they want to have and confront people they perceive as an enemy. I’m so glad I found some of his shorts and a few interviews.
