Well, At least for single player games, especially older ones, it doesn't make sense. Why the hell would i want to buy something that has more in, that i did not want & that could possibly give me more problems now or further down the road. Especially when we already have to worry about other compatibly issues. Although, i haven't done it recently I might start buying more DRM free games from GOG & hopefully get those games working on the DECK, maybe with the 3rd party app FanO.D. mentioned. But even GOG can be questionable these days.

I agree that it's disappointing that Ayaneo moved from HoloISO to Windows. Valve has been fantastic about throwing its weight and expertise behind Linux support, which helps break the Windows PC gaming monopoly. I was hoping more companies were doing the same, as it's good for everyone.

Ah, yes, people being able to move away from Microsoft and still play all their games isn't helping break up their monopoly, please. Valve told devs to make Linux versions, some Indies listened. There's no proof that they won't as the very little market share that Linux has with games supporting it on Steam is evidence to the contrary. You don't have to simp for a mega corporation.

@@johndrippergaming Devs targeting a specific release of Proton ensures that the game will always work, if the user uses that version of Proton to play it. When building native Linux builds, system package updates have the potential to break the game. So targeting Proton is better for game preservation than relying on native Linux builds that would become obsolete unless the devs dedicated resources to maintaining them. As well as that, as more and more games target Proton and thus work on Linux, it simply takes that many more reasons away from someone needing to run Windows on their gaming PCs. Even if no games had native Linux builds, if every game actually worked on Linux through Proton, why would anyone ever wanna pay to install Windows on their gaming machine? That's the monopoly that would be broken.

Wife and I bought our family a Steam Deck last year, and we fricking love it! We've been Linux and Mac users for decades now, and adding the Deck to the family was the next logical step. Valve absolutely nailed it with this device. Hybrid handhelds are the way forward and I can actually see ourselves buying one or two more Decks for the kids.

With Persona 5 Royal having Denuvo; I haven't had much of a problem playing the game with mods (via Reloaded-II) on Steam Deck (512GB LCD+1TB MicroSD) or on my desktop (R9-5900X/RX 6900XT/64GB (2x32GB) DDR4-3600/Win11), but that does NOT mean I am "content" with there being DRM there in the first place for a singleplayer game whose only online functionality is the "Theif Chat" that lets you see what other players did on any particular game day (first seen in Persona 4 Golden on the Vita as "Vox Populi").

My most requested feature on steam deck would be bluetooth keyboard detection preventing from having the onscreen keyboard appearing. It is really annoying when I'm playing a game, and want to say hi to a friend using my mini bluetooth keyboard and writing a single letter in game with my bluetooth keyboard makes the on screen keyboard appear. I wrote the first letter without it, so why can`t steam deck detect I don`t need said onscreen keyboard. Really annoying :( Otherwise, amazing device that keeps getting new features. I love it.

That is weird as when I use my Logitech K840 keyboard paired to my 512GB LCD Deck over Bluetooth it doesn't bring up the OSK when using chat functions in either Game Mode or Desktop Mode.

@@ElNeroDiablo hmmm strange. What game do you play? Perhaps it is a game issue and not a steam deck issue then. As I basically play and use chat function for path of exile 99.9% of the time, in the in-game chat. Not the steam client chat. Otherwise I play small indie single player games.

Yeah the support for my cheap USB-C dongle has gotten worse. The output aspect ratio/resolution is weird and it's cropped and before it was perfect.

Yh it hasn't worked for me since day 1 with loads of issues and their support has been abysmal just 1-2 week refund policy and otherwise a checklist response of answers leading to basically "too bad". Gave the thing away as it was a paperweight for docked use which is what I wanted it for, Valve cares indeed...

Honestly, I love this little device. Currently using this in desktop mode at my regular desktop setup. Strongly considering upgrading the storage even more, because I see no reason why I can't just use this full-time as my main computing device. Being able to just grab it off the dock and walk somewhere else to play games or whatever is a huge bonus.

It really boggles the mind Capcom still keeps doing this :( Most of their games have been cracked already so all they are doing is making it a worse experience for paying customers. Just wanted to add on the Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth's new game plus thing, they also did that on the previous Like a Dragon game in Japan but included it in the game when they released the updated version to the rest of the world. So it was a predictable move but still a shame it probably sold well enough to warrant them to keep doing it.

They're doing it, because this DRM will not allow modding all due to the naked Chun Li debacle. They consider all mods cheating even though some mods are there to fix something Capcom already broke yet refuse to fix (like the CPU core bug in Strider).

I’d be SO happy if Valve would implement allowing the dpad to move the cursor in the text box up/down/left/right while typing via the onscreen keyboard in desktop mode. Currently, if the keyboard is displayed moving the dpad selects keys on the virtual keyboard.

I’ve started seeing this bug so much more in recent days. I’ve been fighting it for a while in various games that shouldn’t be having issues (Dredge, Far Changing Tides), then I try demanding AAA games (GotG, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War) that work just fine. It’s so weird.

I'm running Palworld capped 28fps, TSR and all medium with only 10w TDP. Also 1024x640 screen settings in game properties. Average almost 3 hours of play time on my LCD Deck 🥰. It is very playable and looks really good without any potatoes mods. Try it!

If u have a beefy pc. Try moonlight/sunshine and stream to deck. Shure pc is on, but u get great visuals almost no input latency and 60 fps. Works well on home network.

@@MrMrmix83 yup, got around 6 hours streaming both PC and PS5, though PS5 is way better doing streaming since it uses very low power compared to desktop. Also you can now sleep and resume with Chiaki. Hopes Palworld got released on the PS5 too.

Man man man i was going to use tax return for oled but im sick of my 1650 s gaming pc from the crappy dell (long story wasnt in to tech jntil after bought it and realized it was oem rubbish) and decided to pick up a skytech with a 4060 8gb. I only game at 1080p and feel fine with great. BUT i have about 470 in random stocks that have barely gone up in two years, tempted to sell those and save up a few hundred for that oled. I love my steam deck so much and have lost 60 lbs exercising on stationary bike with it. For metroidvanias and 2d the lcd lasts 6 hrs and ive yet to need to plug it up. But the oled is soooo coooool

For anyone not wanting to shell out $85 for Like A Dragon: these games go on sale quickly and get discounted a fair amount, so being a patient gamer over the next year or so will pay off. Personally, I just bought it and left a negative review, because I only need the base game. I encourage others to do the same.

You mentioned Tekken but if you don't know the online needs to be fixed for it. Linux/Steam Deck players get disconnected shortly after starting an online match which makes the online mostly unplayable for now. Mortal Kombat 1 was verified at launch which was crazy to me because that game can't hold 60 fps and the online doesn't even work for it at all. What a mess

Theoretically it is definitely possible to get thumb stick drift Yes. I haven't seen it reported yet for any Steam Decks including LCDs but that's probably just me not seeing those experiences. I've replaced the analog sticks and it's pretty easy as far as SD repairs go but I understand if you don't want to open up your Deck at all, of course. Headphone jack issues should largely be resolved by now. Broadly speaking, you can check for dead pixels and headphone jack issues as soon as you receive your SDOLED and then you can submit an RMA if you encounter any issues. Again, I understand if that just sounds like a hassle in the first place but I think your chances of getting a unit that requires an RMA seems pretty low at the moment.

Stick drift will likely always be a thing with potentiometer based analog sticks. There's not really a way around it other than to calibrate larger and larger deadzones to compensate for it.

Wow good question. I looked it up and apparently you might be able to do this if the DS4 is connected via USB cable or you're using the Sony official wireless adapter but I you can't do it through normal Bluetooth wireless and even then, I can't seem to find actual confirmation that it works with the other methods. To be more specific it is really a front-end for package managers (Pacman on Arch distributions like SteamOS). It is possible to essentially set it up to be the front-end to what is actually considered a store, but on the Steamdeck it is just for package managers.

It isn't necessarily incorrect to call the software center GUI an app "store" especially when all of the applications come from a central repository for a universal package format.

Agreed. Prince of Persia is the best 2D metroidvania I've ever played (no disrespect to Metroid Fusion, Dread or Ori games). Just beat it on Switch OLED (phenomenal experience with Mobapad M6 HD joycon btw, love that HD rumble and those omron switches). I loved it so much I bought on EGS, and I never, and I mean NEVER buy from there. Spent 4 hrs setting up Heroic, Ubisoft Connect Epic Games Store Launcher, etc. But it's working now. And... even on Ultra, 720p 60fps, it's basically identical to Switch. Still, I wanted it for posterity and controller config adaptability. Cloud saves transferred my 83% right over

Does anyone know if any of the beta update helps with the 'Sackboy' issues on dock whereby it assigns the deck's controller as Player 1 and there is no way to un-assign it. Re-ordering controllers in Steam options, doesn't change anything, and the in-game settings which may allow the controllers to be changed are also disabled. I've read about a hack / Steam mod that specifically disables the Deck controller but would prefer a proper fix. Anyone got any ideas?

To be honest, I don't care much about DRM, specifically Denuvo. I have a good PC and it doesn't affect me that much or at all. I also beat Persona 5 Royal on the Steam Deck with no issues and with minimal framerate dips and only in open world. I bought Persona 3 Reload to play it exclusively on the Deck, so we'll see what's going to happen.

Question, i seen some videos where steam deck is having issues with anti cheat and drm are they still having isuues or is it better to go with asus ally

Good question... Ally is the go-to if you want to play games that have anti-cheat. Some of them have been patched and updated to work with the Steam Deck but basically all of them work with the Ally by default. Destiny 2 is still a prime example of a game that does not work on the Steam Deck but works on the Ally without issue. With regard to DRM, this plagues all handhelds but the Steam Deck has an advantage. Developers will sometimes make changes _specifically_ for the Steam Deck that they are not making for other handhelds. For example, in this video, I talk about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 which has been updated to allow offline play for the Steam Deck. Unfortunately, that update does not apply to the Ally, Legion Go, or other Windows handhelds. I hope this helps!

I dont get why people were eo excited for ayaneo coming out with steam OS. Their company is basically shovelware at that point, and to think they were competition for windows is crazy. They always release a new version every month or so i eont even know whats the difference between them anymore

Valve should give developers a cut in the percentage they take from sales if they make the games optimised for steam deck with its own mode like what cyberpunk has done with the steam deck graphics settings

Epic still fail to recognise their lack of revenue is directly correlated with convenience. As Gabe said nearly 2 DECADES AGO! Convenience trumps all, even piracy, even free. Epic make it harder to buy games it's as simple as that! The appalling performance, features, and general UI experience across the whole of epic's store is the reason no-one wants to buy from them. A subscription will do nothing to help that. The mobile shop might make money though, because that user-base has much lower standards.

The Steam Deck has truly opened my eyes to how toxic the PC gaming community can be. anything that doesn't run Windows and/or does not sit on a desk is automatically not worth anyone's time. Steam Deck is the only serious attempt at making PC gaming accessible to more people. Windows is for 1, absolute fucking garbage and there's no debate about that. Forced updates, constant bugs (yet also constant patches for fixes for said bugs), spyware/bloatware infested and just generally slow and resource intensive compared to Linux, Mac OS and other Unix/Unix-like OS's. Windows is lucky to have so much dev support because without it would actually make zero sense to use their OS.

Since when listen companies like the Ayaneo company what their customers want? I don't believe them, and think their software developers were not able to get this running perfectly fine like the Steam Deck does. Maybe the drivers didn't work as expected or the devs don't have enough Linux experience, or the HoloISO was not exactly what they was hoping. Or their customer service have no Linux experience and don't want (or can't due to contracts) to switch to another. Just giving some food for thoughts. Companies aren't always honest when talking to the public.
