its so much easier watching a vid than going by the book, thats why i do the vids, encourages fellow bikers to have a go themselves and not get ripped by the garages. ;)

Hope your still biking mate , just watched your video because I'm just doing valve clearances on my Bandit 600. What a job ive had getting rocker cover off , front screw was seized and rusted in solid. Had to virtually dig it out but it's out . You always give good tips based on your experience thanks for sharing .

Always difficult to tell with perceived noise but if its tappity then o ly one way to find out, whip the rocker cover off n check the clearances 👍

I have a suzuki gsf600 i replaced the clutch swich an the handlebars and the bike did stard and i tried to adjust the cable from the gears while the big was ruming and i had to stop the bike by emergency button after the bike wont start cam you give any advice .Thanks Tony
@trebor44607 жыл бұрын
if it ran before you fitted the clutch stitch i would check that first, take the 2 terminals off the switch and link them temporarily together with a bit of wire or pin between the two to make a circuit and see if it starts.

Do the lock nuts need to be torque correctly? If not how tight do they need to be?
@trebor44606 жыл бұрын
I used my own judgment I'm an engineer and you just get use to tightening things correctly..easy to overtighten these and strip the thread ..the tourque is only 7lb per foot so if you have a torque wrench prob best to use it .😉
@sickcowpie85866 жыл бұрын
@@trebor4460 Were you still able to reuse the gaskets/seals? Did you have to apply anything on the gaskets/seals before placing the cover?
@trebor44606 жыл бұрын
@@sickcowpie8586 I used the old gaskets but be careful putting the rocker cover back on as the spark plug gaskets are so easy to dislodge and oil pissed out if not seated right 😉

I have a gsf600 '98 and want to adjust the clearances, does the 600 looks the same inside as 1200? Does bandits have shims?(i saw videos of other motors adjusting the clearances by adding other shims, why you do it this way?)
@trebor446011 жыл бұрын
Will be the same method buddy but I would get a manual if I was you for the exhaust and inlet valve gaps as they might very well be different for the 600 ;)

my bandit1200 is 14yrs old and done about 50k miles...never done a valve adjustment yet before! do you think she needs one in your opinion?
@trebor44604 жыл бұрын
Yes defo do at check specially with 50000 on the clock , the time to worry is when you cant hear them as they have tightened up ..clearances too low.. 👍
@fidelcatsro69484 жыл бұрын
@@trebor4460 They tighten up ? i thought they wear out and loosen up a bit?...i do have pop pop sounds when starting up but it goes away or pop less once heated up to temperature..
@trebor44604 жыл бұрын
@@fidelcatsro6948 yep they can tighten up as well they are only a basic nut and pin affair to adjust them and can quite easily tighten up as well as loosen to the point where the valve does not shut properly and then the seats of the valve burn out ..the piping is prob mixture a bit lean on start up and as motor gets hot the requirement is for a leaner mixture so less popping . 👍
@fidelcatsro69484 жыл бұрын
@@trebor4460 thank you i just read up more of other articles on this..yes youre right they can tighten up as well and that is more serious than loosening up..eventual valve head seating can cause tightening to occur.

Alright mate, lovely bike you got there. Just got a question for you. Just had the clearances and tappets adjusted on my bandit 12, there's now a ticking noise coming from the top of the motor that I haven't noticed before. Is this normal? I have read that these motors do tick or rattle a bit. Only had it a week and don't know what is or isn't normal. Cheers

Leo 71 hi buddy ues it's normal to have a bit of ticking on top end when they were Set one of the clearances was prob set at the top end of the top.. the time start worrying is wjen u ain't got a tick..then the valve clearances ain't enough and thays wjen valves burn out . Keep her shiny side up 😉
