I’m so glad I found this. I have a 2007 compass. Same motor. This is exactly what in need to do. Wasn’t sure if I could do it but after watching this I feel a little better about it. I’m not about to pay a garage to do it. Especially when they wanted $150 just to change the spark plugs. Thank you for posting this.

Nice video, but for all of you first timers out there, he failed to show cleaning around the timing cover fits around the timing cover. This area has to be cleaned and a small amount of form-a gasket on both sides of valve cover or you will have a LEAK. Too bad it took you a couple of hours to do what you thought was a really good job, to end up pulling it back apart to apply about a 1/2 of sealant. Hope this helps!

It's kind of odd that that's a pretty new looking gasket that was on there, and it was leaking like that. I think the new blue ones are mostly silicone, but I'm not sure. They don't dry rot as much but that's not a good sign. Looks like it was already replaced.

Hi G T, thanks for visiting my channel. I would change the spark plugs with the valve cover on as you don't want to accidentally drop anything into the valve area or have dirt or anything fall in there.

I have the 2.4 l & my new gasket sticks out a bit on the driver side, is that normal? It seems to be the same case in the video. But I just wanna be certain.
@jefferson888889 ай бұрын
The gasket is a bit exposed on the drivers side after instal. Without a picture of your installation I can not be sure if your installation is correct, but as long as there is no oil leakage you should be fine. It should be pretty obvious if the gasket rolled out of the valve cover groove during instal.

Nice job! Any leaks? I noticed you didn't apply any RTV where the timing chain meets the block. Also, just to add, you can overtighten. I did and snapped a bolt off in the head. Luckily I was able to drill it out and then extract it.
@jefferson888882 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for checking out my channel, no leaks. Good comment to use a little RTV at the transitions as it my standard practice and I usually apply some, but forgot on this job. Bummer about you snapping off a bolt, I've always just snugged them down, not over tightened them.

I keep unscrewing the bolts for my valve cover gasket but they won't come out. They just keep turning. What do I do yo get them off/out.??
@jefferson88888 Жыл бұрын
Unscrew them all untill you're sure they have been turned enough to be free of the head, then gently try to pull the valve cover off (bolts and all). The cover/old gasket may be holding onto the bolts not allowing them to be pulled out easily. If the bolts are turning inside the head, they are stripped and you have much bigger problems.....

@jefferson88888 Жыл бұрын
Make sure ALL of the fasterners holding the cover down have been removed. Once confirmed, wiggle and bump the sides of the cover with your palm - it should come off. The old gasket over time sometimes forms a pretty tight bond between the cover and the engine head.

@jefferson888882 жыл бұрын
@@catdog4447 Be patient and try to slowly work them out (1/4" drive ratchet is best as it has a short handle and will limit the amount of torque). If possible spray some penetrating oil onto all of the bolts and let it sit overnight - might have to do this a couple of times. If you resort to an impact or electric ratchet you're most likely guranteed to snap them off.

@@catdog4447 you need to make sure that bolt didn't fall into the cam/rocker area (top of head) - check every nook and cranny! If it is left in there on start up it will be catastophic. Otherwise use a magnet to probe the engine bay area where it may have dropped. Failing that - check a parts store or dealer for a replacement.
