So I've had my valve index now for 2 weeks. Thank you for all of the suggestions and tips that you've provided. I did not know about the steam VR beta download. I did not know why my headset kept turning off and I would have to unplug it and replug it in, but now I know it's all about usb power management. So thank you. Can you make a recommendation as to the resolution? Should I use a custom resolution in the steamvr settings? I've got a pretty beefy PC, i7 7700 k, 32GB of RAM, RTX 2070 super video card. Or should I just leave the resolution as it's set up automatically? I'm just wondering because things don't seem as clear as they should perhaps when I look through the headset. Also, if I go through revive and play my Oculus titles, should I adjust any supersampling in the Oculus titles? Or should I leave those alone? Appreciate any feedback you can give.

Something I missed was being able to play with friends and having access to all games. Having tried the index controllers it’s hard to go back. They’re really a big step forwards. I’m planning to sell my quest and buy a used Vive and pick up a pair of index controllers. I’ll still be able to play my quest games since they’re available on pc with cross-play and I can use revive. The controllers are the most important part of the index and I’ll start in that end. I hope I’m making the right decision!

That is why I did not buy the Vive Pro. But the Index is cheaper than the Vive Pro launch and is now like the Vive launch price except, to me anyways, the Index is better built. If you are looking for perfection you will never achieve it. But I believe the Index is pushing VR into more comfort in hardware and software. The wands help you manipulate objects like IRL (games like Cyube and Blade and Sorcery already show this off from Index's Shipped Date) and 144 hz, sharper/clear textures, ect. I am hoping these will help for longer game sessions but time will tell.

@@ny0men controllers like the windows mixed reality use bright white led lights and cameras to track it whether the base stations use infrared that is correct. I have yet to try the oculus quest myself but from what I've seen from the controllers it uses seems to be a mix of both the windows mixed reality headsets using the cameras on the headset and the infrared tracking, however this is not optimal as it does not offer complete tracking like the base stations do as it fails once the controllers leave the cameras view. Due got his and of valve wanting to have exclusivity of the knuckles controllers on their own products or headsets that support the lighthouse tracking these will never work on the quest at least natively only by modding them and you don't need to be smart to understand that this means that optimal performance like the native one will never be reached. This is what I meant, that they are two completely different tracking solutions even if they have some similarities on what type of sensors they use so the next time you want to sound like a condescendent jerk you should be the one thinking twice :)

The only less than optimum thing I'm hearing, besides the price, is that this headset's sweet spot could be better, and the relationship to how it fits & stays on your head.. Can you comment further on this ... thanks! Gary
@suicidalbanananana5 жыл бұрын
Visual sweet spot: 95% of the view is clear Eye sweet spot: You really have to properly fit the headset (like millimeters) to get the above, on the bright side you can now take the headset off and put it back on without changing anything, so once dialed in you don't really have any issues with getting it properly positioned. The same is the case with the godrays/glow/glare btw, if you have properly fitted the headset/your eyes are in the sweet spot, you get bscly none, only barely visible at the very edges if you really start looking for it in dark scenes, any normally lit scene you dont see it.

I was in the September wave too, but it'll likely be far sooner than that. If you look at r/valveindex on Reddit, it looks like most of the July 31st wave has already gotten their shipping info and even some of the August people. I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but at the rate it's going, I wouldn't be surprised if we got ours between late July to mid August.

I had a reservation for shipping by August 31st, I got an email on the 28th of June to purchase it and now my kit is coming later today! I highly doubt you will have to wait til September :)

Excellent assessment. I think what sells it for me is that you said it would be your, "daily driver." Right now, I am in love with being untethered with my Quest. I've retired my Rifts, totally. Yes, I think I will save up for the Valve index.

looks awesome! thanks for the great video! my main 2c is that you kind of need a dedicated video game room for VR in order for it to be something you do for the long term. I have an original oculus, and I have it in my home office, but I can't keep it out and hooked up 24/7, so I need to bring it out and hook it up every time I use it. if you can't keep it hooked up, eventually it just becomes easier to play regular games and you play VR games less and less.

ClayJitsu I have a similar problem I have my oculus in my room and I can’t find the right place to put my sensors so I have to use front facing tracking and my play space is really small I wish I had an open room with Ethernet but I don’t

Is it possible to power new Lighthouse trackers 2.0 through USB?
@baddog865 жыл бұрын
Aerith Heiro I don’t believe so but google is a great resource
@adatrem5 жыл бұрын
Only with a 5V to 12V step-up converter since USB can only provide 5V. I still wouldn't recommend it though as the lighthouses draw quite some power and a converter has about 70% efficiency. TL;DR:You would need a powerful USB power supply and an adapter
@DVDplayerz5 жыл бұрын
Aerith Heiro Not worth trying. Your pc shouldn't be able to supply enough Amps trough the usb ports. I believe this may be possible with type-c since the lighthouse needs 12V 0.833A but I don't think its worth the cable tinkering, cutting, soldering and connecting. The lighthouses are made to be stand alone in the sense that they only require power. There is no need to connect it back to the pc. However, now that I think about it, you probably want to connect them to a battery bank. Here are your choices: "USB-C devices may optionally provide or consume bus power currents of 1.5 A and 3.0 A at 5 V" (so it has to be boosted to 12V, "converting" some Amps to Volts) Some powerbanks can deliver 2A+ on regular USB but that's again usually at 5v (since most electronic devices run at 5v). They also tend to first give low amounts of power untill the device at the other end is recognised as a "smart device" that is known to be able to take more (example Qi fast chargers). They also might not be giving a stable enough output depending on the one how cheap it is. The safest option in this case is to buy a powerbank that has a wall outlet straight onto it and use it as a normal wall outlet. If you have a choice, I'd sugest to just connect it to you wall. If your room doesn't have power and you don't want to run a cable extention from your kitchen, If you have a light plug on your celing, there are cheap "Bulb Socket Adapters" that can help. Plugging into pc is not a good option. GL, I might have put too much info...
