I’m one month post ascending aorta aneurysm repair. It was a 6.8 in size. So far recovery is going well. Mild sternum pain, although some nerve damage. Given the procedure I’m doing well. This video explains so much of what we go through with this problem. Thankful for the doctors and their expertise!

I have Elher's-Danlos in my family and because of this my doctor gave me a routine echo even though I'm not that affected by this condition. Turns out I was at a 3.8cm and the last four years is grown 1mm each time. I would have never known had my doctor not been proactive. So many with Elher's-Danlos are left out of this issue and not recognized by other doctors. I hope you'll look into this condition and this could be a root of the family heredity that is unnamed.

I was in the hospital due to covid pneumonia from January to April this year. I had many chest X-rays and CT scans done and it’s noted that I have a family history of aortic dissection. This past week I went to the emergency room for lingering pneumonia my last CT on 02/23/2022 before the one done last week said no aortic issues. I had both X-ray and CT done 09/11/2022 on the CT findings it does mention anything about aorta but the X-ray mentions torturous aorta. Mind you I have pectus excavatum could this possibly be a mistake in the reading of the images? The ER doctor didn’t mention it I found out myself by reading the notes thru my patient portal. Thanks

I had an aortic resection and valve replacement 10 years ago when I was 57. Currently my valve has a moderate to severe leak. Because I am 67 many recommend a redo surgery. One surgeon did recommend TAVR. I am in good shape and am weighing open heart again during this vital part of my life vs. later. If I got TAVR now it could last 7 years, but I would be at same cross roads. Love to hear from someone in same boat on how they decided. Also interested if anyone has seen this addressed in any videos or panel discussions. Thanks

Question: What about an ascending aortic arch aneurysm (aortic root mildly dilated) with bovine arch anatomy? Any other considerations, risks, or worries with repair? By history, I am an anesthesiologist (age 67) who was diagnosed with a 4.4 cm ascending thoracic aneurysm (ATA) in April 2023 (second CT angio {Dec 2023} no change in size). After your fine video, I noticed on the echos done to stage me, there were no remarks regarding my aortic valve anatomy. No mention of tricuspid vs. bicuspid. Any help/direction would be most appreciated. My comment: I used to do the anesthesia for TAA repairs in the 90s and almost all the patients with ATAs died perioperatively. When I was diagnosed, this floored me. I must say going through life with this over my head is somewhat disconcerting. Any progress with the risks associated with the repair of an ATA?

That said, we would strongly encourage to discuss this issue with your cardiologist at your earliest convenience. Hi Doctors, I'm a 45 year old Firefighter and have a bicuspid valve with an thoracic ascending aorta anursm. I'm doing surgery coming up in February. They are going to replace the aorta with the mesh you spoke about. Questions - will this last for the rest of my life? Will it need to be replaced in the future? Any concerns or other questions I should be asking before surgery? I'm a Kaiser member.

It has only become obvious to me this week that this is something I cannot live with and I need surgery. I guess you also know the sleeve they install is permanent and does not need to be replaced. They cannot give you specific advice. You should be seeing a cardiologist to monitor the aneurysm. I am 56 and have a 4.6cm ascending aortic aneurysm and moderate aortic stenosis. I also have a bicuspid aortic valve. The size of our aneurysms is not that big; because of this our risk to have surgical repair is greater than our risk of rupture. You need to see a cardiologist and get specific recommendations from him or her.
