I inherited an original 740 woodsmaster chambered in .308 from a family friend's father, who passed away. Haven't been able to shoot it yet, with the ammo shortage and all, but I'm incredibly excited to give my first real semi-automatic rifle a try, given I can get my hands on some reasonably priced ammunition. Great video!

Great video. I have a Remington 742 in 243 Winchester that I got when I was 13 years old. I killed several nice bucks with it. Thank you for posting another review of a sporting rifle. I really enjoy your videos.

First time watching your channel. I found a 7400 in 30-06 for just under $500 and am thinking about getting it. I've got a Remington 760 pump action in 30-06 and love it, although it does kick like a mule. Hahaha very informative, very good video. Thank you, I just subscribed!

Such a nice gun so unknown and underrated. It's a perfect amalgamation of semi auto and aesthetic hunting rifle appeal. I will always prefer a 7400 or BAR over an AR/AK style rifle. I actually had one of the synthetic versions and I sold it like a dummy. I know it's not the wood one but now I'm trying to get another one and if I get my hand on a wood one I will be very grateful and happy with it. I think Remington discontinued it because they wanted people to only buy their bolt guns, I'm not really sure but it was around the time Freedom Group purchased them and that right there is a dead giveaway that it was cut for financial reasons. Its more expensive to manufacture and I don't think they sell as well but man they are sweet!!

I'm tempted to buy one I seen for private sale with 2 mags plus a third 10 round mag, it has synthetic furniture but is in good condition from the photos, it's a cheap way to get a semi auto 308 compared to an AR style 308 rifle.
@vameathunter27713 ай бұрын
I think the synthetic stock is a newer model, and I'm not sure about the accuracy. But for hunting this is a inexpensive way to get a hunting life. Thanks for watching.
@paulbarela65483 жыл бұрын
Wow $650 sounds like alot, I got my 7400 308 with a hard case and the original scope for $200 after the 2015 hunting season from a friend. It only had about 20 rounds through it with the synthetic stock. I did upgrade back then to the Nikon PROSTAFF Rifle Scope 4-12x 40mm BDC Reticle at $220 and leupold scope rings. I wish I could get my hands on the 30-06 as well. I have a few thousands rounds through it now and have never had any problems. I did use some Walmart bought ZQ1 turkish ammo once and found it does not like $10 boxes of cheap stuff it was all over my 8 inch target, used the winchester ballistic silvertip and it was dead center 3 shots. I use Hornady ELD-X or winchester ballistic silvertip sometimes.

I totally agree with your review about the magazine and the creep on the 7400... do you normally chamber a round when loading before removing the magazine and then load the magazine and insert? The instructions tell you to do this, and I notice that it's more susceptible to jamming. Just curious your opinion. Thanks!
@vameathunter27715 жыл бұрын
Noooo! It can be a big safety issue, I rather close the chamber empty, but never with live round in the chamber. I believe making a safe habit of operating the gun can really save you from making a horrible mistake. Thanks for watching n have a great Thanksgiving.

Nope! not with this rifle. If that rifle is in 308 with a reasonable price, you should grab it. If the price is little high you should look into Browning BAR, I also did a review on BAR. Happy shopping and hunting. :-)

7400 was the best of the Remington semi rifles produced. The 742 was my first rifle as a boy but the 7400 was an improvement IMO. As to the trigger, for $12.95, mcarbo sells a trigger upgrade that makes a WORLD of difference. I installed one on my 7600 pump and I love it. I have no affiliation with mcarbo other than a happy customer. www.mcarbo.com/store/p/29-Remington-Shotguns-870-11-87-1100-Remington-Rifles-750-7400-7600-Trigger-Spring-Kit.aspx

These guns although look appealing are a very horrible design by remington. I have a 742 woodsmaster that is a single shot now because it wont eject. The extractors were a horrible design they wear out and when they do the gun is junk. They dont call them the jam master for no reason. Good looking gun but horrible design I'd never buy one. Go browning bar if you want a semi.
@vameathunter27714 жыл бұрын

@easttexan29334 жыл бұрын
that's just your opinion of course. I've had BARs that shot terrible. Truthfully, I've never owned a 740, 742, or 7400 that even approached the accuracy Doc's gun is showing. He has a good one. It's hit or miss with these old guns. Doc hit.
