The Room is technically a groundbreaking film that pushed at the boundaries of cinematic craft/technique through shooting on both film and digital at the same time. Unfortunately, like everything to do with The Room, it was terribly executed, illy conceived and just plain old shit.

@@budusbusham3324 My theory as to why he used two cameras, is that he had absolutely no idea what he was doing. When they asked him what format he wanted to use, he was so stubborn that instead of asking for help he just said both. @@budusbusham3324 That's not groundbreaking though. Not only had it had been done before, but it's completely pointless for any artistic purpose. The only reason to do it would be to have dailies turned around quicker. OR you're making a stereoscopic 3D movie.

Film crews are always questioning the quality of the production, but nobody ever really knows how a movie will turn out. The English crews on Star Wars and Aliens bashed the movies during production, and thought the directors were buffoons. On the other hand sometimes a crew will think a movie is going to be a big hit and sweep the Oscars, while instead, the movie releases with a "thud". I have heard low budget crews talk about a fledgling director as though he was Orson Wells, calling him a genius. Anyway, it's just a job, and the best policy is to always take the job seriously and do the best you can so you can continue working in the future.

This is a reminder that it takes a lot of hard work, passion, and dedication to make even a bad movie. I can't help but empathize with the amount of stress and the complexity of emotion Tommy must have been feeling while making The Room (regardless of the fact that those emotions didn't manage to make it to his character) . Whatever you may think of the movie, the commitment and focus required to pull everything together is an achievement in itself, and I have admiration for anyone who sets their mind on something and gets it done. It may not have been the hit it was intended to be, but it is a statement.

That's how he made it all in the first place. Tommy grew up poor and the real reason he doesn't talk about his past is because he's ashamed of being trafficked by slavic mafia. @hankhill7827
@hankhill7827 4 жыл бұрын
The reason why it's of interest is because of the setup, it's two cameras rigged side by side filming at the same time. The Room was shot in both film and digital video as an experiment on Tommy's part. Although the use of several cameras filming the same angle at once has been done before, for example in 1962, How The West Was Won was shot with three cameras to create a wider image. The purpose of Tommy's experment was to be able to have two copies of The Room, one shot on 35mm film like normal movies were at the time, and one in digital video which would have been novel back in 2003. Digital was not a format that was in any way mainstream for filmmakers until around 2010 with the devolpment of cameras like the Arri Alexa. Tommy was obivously curious about the possiblities of digital filmmaking and did it as an exercise to see if it could be any good and as a gimmick to promote the film. So it's just the guy is obvously interested in it because it is a unique and interesting camera setup that no one would've ever seen before.

@@kostarossides5062 Ultimately, nobody knows how a movie is going to turn out until it is released. Aside from that, I've worked on plenty of low-budget movies that I knew were crap, but I always tried to do the best job I could because that was my job. Some movies are intentionally bad and are fun to work on, and some movies aspire to greatness and are hell to work on. Even when the crew and director are top pros the movie can be hell.

For crew (generally, of course) the pay is the same whether it's a blockbuster or a low-budget film. Assuming they were paid their standard rate, this was just another job for them.
@aliensoup2420
@aliensoup2420 Жыл бұрын
@@danimalforlife That is only true if the crew is Union. All rates are negotiable and vary greatly depending on the production. I worked on low-budget garbage for dirt wages, then might do a commercial for top pay. Regardless of pay rate, one should always provide their best performance. Your name and performance ends up on the screen for everyone to see, so regardless of how much you were paid, the end result is the only thing people will evaluate.

Watching this while finishing up “The Disaster Artist”, this feels extremely surreal... Just seeing the parts of the deleted alleyway scene is crazy enough, but to also realize that all of this footage was from the one guy who filmed *every single little* behind the scenes detail, including the potential drama... like, now I wanna see what was filmed! I also wanna see what the HD footage looked like (from what I understand, only the 35mm footage was used for this movie’s overall release).
