We're facing the extinction of countless species, including our own, and people still want to be reasonable? We need less carrot, more stick. Peaceful protest stops working when it's all the status-quo must contend with as opposition. The thing which makes it so special, so impactful is that the alternative elevates it as a strategy. When the reason fails to work, what then? When there is no alternative, what is there to make peace so important? Carrot needs stick. Good cop needs bad, but nobody wants to be the bad cop about bad cops or the stick to the carrot. You need to make them realize why listening to peaceful opposition is in their best interest - as the US Civil Rights and Anti-Aparthied movements did - the peace gets all the credit, but if it weren't for the violence what is there to elevate the peace?
@syystomu4 жыл бұрын
@@fuzzydunlop7928 If you're talking to me, then note that I never said "reasonable" meant "peaceful". All I said was, don't do something that'll get you thrown in prison unless it's actually worth going to prison for. I'm saying this because some people are actively trying to go to prison just for the sake of going to prison, thinking it'll sway people's opinions and it won't. People won't even hear about it or if they hear about it, there will be propaganda to make you look bad. It's just not worth it when those activists could have done so many other things. So do something more effective, as long as it's _not_ something like murdering people, which would definitely turn almost everybody against you, no matter who the victim was. Eco-fascists have tried that and it didn't work, at all. Same goes for forcible sterilization and other genocidal tactics. It's evil and it won't work. I'm not gonna tell anyone what _to_ do on a public forum, though. But I mean, what I consider more effective is taking direct action to directly and actively stop a bad thing from happening. Just being an real nuisance to the people in power so they have to delay or cancel their plans. And preferably in a way where you can still get away with it or at least not get caught so you can do the same somewhere else next time. Of course you might still end up being arrested and convicted but at least you've accomplished something first. Not telling you to do this, just saying that sort of thing would be more effective than just doing whatever random thing that'll get you thrown in prison just for the sake of it. I think that's reasonable. I think the point about not murdering people is also reasonable. That's what I meant by using every reasonable method. I'm counting out stupid stunts that don't have any real effect and actively evil stuff like murder and genocide. ... Or you can try to organise a general strike which I honestly think would be the most effective option, it's just also the hardest to organise.
@fuzzydunlop79284 жыл бұрын
@@syystomu Okay, since you’ve specified your views of what’s reasonable I‘ll stand corrected. Though since we’re into the specifics I have to say I think a general strike depends on where you are - they don’t have the best track record in the US for example - which has a long lineage of meeting labor concerns with rubber bullets if not worse. I suppose I just take issue with those who preclude anything but peaceful, established methodology which is something I now know wasn’t your point. Peace didn’t work for the DAPL issue, for instance, despite all of the positive press and support a movement like that could ask for. It was a turning point for me, personally, when it comes to strategy but it wasn’t at all unprecedented.

I really like the central conflict of the movie: what happens if vampires overcome humans in numbers, becoming the top of the food chain? And now, humans are going extinct, so how does this new status quo deals with it? Also, i got to say, i love most of the character, but some of my favorite interactions are between Ethan Hawke and Sam Neill. They are just so great. The scene where a vampire bites Ethan Hawke and his shirt gets drenched in blood is very weirdly sexy to me. No, i have no clue why.

Your outfit❤❤❤ Daybreakers turns 15! I remember seeing it with my sister Cara and my buddies Tom and hemed I’m happy to say this is one of the smarter vampire flicks it didnt feel exploited or contrived I like the fact that the directors had vampires into mainstream society and treating the natural resource of blood as a great allegory for us it is scary when you think about it: what happens if there's nothing left? It’s also a hard look at corporations/capitalism willing to pay any amount to keep their supplies in check next to the privileged class I also didn’t catch the baptism metaphor the first time around but it makes sense given what happens halfway through the movie has great gore, creature effects, an original story, and fun action scenes Even Sam Neil’s character is interesting and is given a bit of depth There’s even one point where it’s get pretty intense you’re like wow that is really harsh….this is actually getting you emotionally invested This is a good movie for a change considering it came out in January and a perfect mix of sci-fi, horror, and drama as well as social commentary telling us all the wealth and power won’t matter if we continue to squander out planet’s precious resources
