Fun fact: The manga actually starts with a woman being sacrificed in an ancient Aztec civilization. The leader uses her blood to turn into a vampire and the clan praises him. Then the actual story starts. This scene was meant to caught the readers atention and make them be thinking which character would put on the mask and what would they do with that power, most likely because Araki was afraid readers would find the slow start of Phantom Blood (JoJo Part/arc 1) boring, since most shonen of the time started more with the action right off the bat. This scene was removed from the anime to make the apparition of supernatural stuff more surprising in episode 2 and precisely to make you go "VAMPIRES!? in MY JoJo's!?"

I think that's Araki's strength right there. Many stories, despite having good stories, don't really catch the audiences attention. But action movies and similar stories use, well, action to get it and keep it, even if they have nothing to do with the story. Araki makes his stories bizarre and incorporates that into the plot to not only catch the readers' or audience's attention, but keep it and deliver a story worthy of it.

Also in the 1993 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OVA series the first episode starts with the woman being sacrificed in an ancient Aztec temple... It dosn't fit with the OVA series at all mostly because the OVA's story only covers Stardust Crusaders

two details to note 1. the entire reason they oversold how evil Dio is in episode 1 was specifically to show the degree to which he's able to gaslight everyone around him after the fact, that he can force himself on women in broad daylight, kill his adopted brother's dog, and threaten to stab him, then after all is said and done, is still able to rehabilitate his image to such a degree that everyone trusts him implicitly. 2. 8:34 Fun fact: This is a shortened version of a scene in the manga which is an actual flashback and not just an image. In it we see a kid Dio bringing medicine to his father but he punches him and tells him he should've bought alcohol instead. Finally he throws his mother's dress at him telling him to sell him, saying what he does in the anime "I don't need the clothes of a dead woman!" and we see Dio crying while cursing him. That was the moment Dio made up his mind and went to buy the poison

yeah, the anime cuts out some of the scenes that show that Dio wasn't completely evil, but felt he'd already come too far to change course now. he actually doubts his plan after a heart to heart with George about Jonathan (due to realizing just how similar they actually are), and ALMOST considers abandoning the plan and just living with the Joestars normally, but felt like he'd done to much to stop now (i.e. murdering his own father, who as he was dying, still cared for Dio in his own way despite his personal short-comings, which made him feel extremely guilty about what he'd done), so after that momentary hesitation goes all in on ruining Jojo's life (though things took a bit of a turn when Jojo ended up being more resilient than he imagined he would be). That's part of why he's so desperate to achieve "heaven", since then it "proves" that nothing was his fault as his whole life was preordained and he never truly had any choices to make and therefore he doesn't have to feel guilt for anything that happened and can finally be at peace.

Reminder Dio murdered his own dad when he was like 12. You thought this was a period drama, but it was I, FUCKING VAMPIRES! JoJo's vampires are really cool cause they're pretty weird when you get down to it. Their fangs aren't what they use to drink blood, instead they shlip their fingers into your neck and drain your blood through their fingertips. They heal themselvs via drinking blood, AND are INSANELY, superhumanly strong. And that's jsut the tip of the iceberg. I'm glad you're getitng behind Jonathan nowthat you're seeing more of his actual personality and character. He's a powerful beefcake, but he's also pretty clever and, most notably, incredibly kindhearted. He refuses to murder a gang of muggers trying to kill him because he doesn't want to make their families mourn. Despite his griavance he was willing to try and let Dio become his friend, prior to realising Dio is a murdering shithead. JoJo is a nice ass boi who won't hurt a fly...but will punch a tiger if provoked. As somone else mentioned, the manga actually started in ancient aztec times, showing a woman being sacrificed so a big evil dude could activate the mask, showing that it doesn't kill the wearer but doens't specify more beyond it. While it makes you dread the mask and wonder what it will do, removing that scene for the anime is better cause it makes you less sure of what it does while its focus in the cinematrography and weirdness around blood is enough to make you wary of it anyway.

I watch Jojo's at the perfect time. When i haven't any anime watch list to watch that day. And wanna try something different like gintama and code geass before. Jojo comes to mind. The first eps you guys seems quite pissed cause Dio, but for me it's sooo good since i'm never watch any shows that makes me hate the villain just for one episode. And one of the villain that i don't need to sympathize. It's just too good for that , so i continue till part 2 (season 1). Yes i go wild watching Jojo to part 2 at one day 💀. And i don't even regret it since i think it's perfect cause part 3 (season 2) is slow pace show and quite the way they do is weekly show. And i don't even know that 💀. I just randomly watching till the part 2 (season 1) at one day. Anyway hope you guys enjoying this dispite it flaw. I mean all shows have their own flaws. And Jojo has too. But what makes this shows seems good it's the unique style from the author itself. And let me tell you. There's a lot Jojo reference out there on manga and anime. Since Jojo author seems to be respected there, i think because his art style is difference from any other artist. And they respect that
