great design for a solo traveler! I love the dual use process dominating the design. The sofa with a wide seat and low back flipping over to provide a bed. The seat looks wide enough so your torso is not actually resting over the seam between the bed and back component, which usually is not a comfortable spot. The clean counter after the cooktop allows for a clean look and the ability to temporarily use the space for what ever is occupying him at the moment. I was disappointed he did not have the shower setup in place yet, he will figure out something good I am sure. Curious on why solo travelers leave the passenger seat. The passenger area if not used offers lots of possibilities. You can even have a jump seat in place for the rare occasion a passenger seat is required. Nicely done!

Well, this is certainly a great van. The Tesla batteries are a huge advantage. Cabinet banks are wonderful storage. My questions: 1. How do you handle the 220V Euro power supply? What step up transformer do you use? 2. Diesel is easier and cheaper in Europe, so why gas? Is South America/Mexico better for gas? What about diesel mechanics and parts? 3. How do you plan your trips? According to weather, ease of transport, visa requirements? How do you know which parts of Mexico are safe to drive through? With regard to lack of a sink or plumbing, that is a Fail in my opinion. A sink is essential for washing dishes, laundry, hair, and even storage of stuff when moving. A deep medium sink is essential. I would also add a small clothes spin dryer from laundryalternative.com. I bought one for $60 for home use. Great machine! All soap and water come off in seconds. The clothes dry in 15 mins when you hang them up. Softer due to soap removal. With regard to a shower/bath area: try magnetic shower curtain for ceiling. Shower pan can be a collapsible tub. Magnetic shower head which attaches to metal cabinet section and gets water from a sink faucet. One guy made his walk in steps area into a diamond plate shower pan with drain. Another option is to take a hula hoop and use it as the shower curtain rod. This fits into a small drop down flat box on ceiling. Neat and tidy. The floor has a dropped steel shower pan, covered by a slatted wood bath mat you walk on same level as current floor. Shower pan drains into a tank or floor. I think you need to see Dave Orton's van build. He is a winery engineer. He built the simplest yet smartest van build I've seen. The bed is sheer genius.

In 17 years of van life, I've never found a sink all that useful. I wash my dishes waterless at the time I'm cooking. So everything is clean and stored shortly after eating. I do have a collapsable large bowl if needed. However, it's rarely used. 1- Don't need to worry about Europe or Asian voltage. My system is self contained. So no electrical hook up is needed. 2- Low sulfur diesel is not easily accessible in many developing countries. Gas is. 3- ioverlander App has an in depth database of information from past and current travelers.

The trick to winter isn't how much battery power you have. It's how much solar. Combined with good batteries that can soak it up fast and efficiently. I'd recommend 200 to 300 amp hours of lithium and as much solar as your roof can hold.

Sinks take up SO MUCH ROOM. Not only counter space (which you can reclaim) but they are deep and require a grey water system. Much better to use that for storage (especially if it is a single guy going around the world).
@johntatman91684 жыл бұрын
Can you send a link to who did the tesla battery install.
@FallingWaterAdventures4 жыл бұрын
I installed the Tesla batteries myself. In general I don't recommend them for average van installation. I've been using lithium batteries for years. Plus I've done numerous solar installations. There are many lithium alternatives available. Unfortunately, they are not nearly as inexpensive as the Tesla option.

OMG , he's gonna be bled dry on gas in Europe , i should know i drove american & i ha ve been living in the E.U. for 45 yrs ... Diesel is king here especially in vans & trucks , although prices per liter are close but the mileage on diesel cars is much higher . Price per gallon today in Belgium for premium gas is 6.3 USD/Gallon approx. (1.5 Euro/liter) Also unlike the U.S. there's no big choice in octane levels , 95 or 98 RON petrol only !

What’s the advantage of a gas engine vs a diesel?
@randywestfall16794 жыл бұрын
None. He is going to regret going gasoline when he gets to Asia and down in South America. There are also places where he is going to regret not having gone with either a Toyota or Mercedes van. Parts for a Chrysler vs either of the other two is going to be a problem.
@MarcP52674 жыл бұрын
Randy Westfall yea we go to France every year to visit family and everything is diesel.
@randywestfall16794 жыл бұрын
@@MarcP5267 A diesel is infinitely more durable than gasoline engine. That Dodge would not have been my first choice for the type of trip he is talking about. Even if it had a Cummins diesel, parts for Chrysler are going to be hard to come by in places. Mercedes, VW, and Toyota will be in almost every town he comes to. Chrysler, he could be broke down some place for months, waiting for the parts to come in. The other problem is, his Dodge has SAE bolts and nuts Vs metric.

Was looking for this comment!! I love watching these videos....but don't understand some people's builds, even though it's not their first van. I thought the whole reason for his bed/couch was to be able to have a nice full bath. But instead, he has more counter space then my 1600 sq ft house. LOL A nice shower would be top of the list for me. Can't have fun if I don't feel clean. And I don't want taking a shower to be a burden....it should be enjoyable, and easy to do. And I don't want to be showering over my toilet, or "build the shower first". MY VAN (if I did it.......but I'd go the Prevost 45 Class A route myself LOL) 1. full bath 2. queen bed 3. make everything fit around that 4. don't make your VAN try to accommodate a party of 8. It's a van.... ( I love the tours "when I have people over"....no one wants to hang out in your van while you poop right next to them...) 5. FUN FACT: in my house, I use about 5 sq ft of counter space to "prep food". These people can poop where they eat, sleep, and shower....but can't figure out how to make a meal without 8 feet of counter top.
@jsbhmm82324 жыл бұрын
He has a faucet. I suspect he has a collapsable wash basin that he can put under the faucet. People always installl deep sinks for washing dishes, but then they lose all that extra storage space from the depth of the sink. I was always curious why no one ever mounted a faucet on the way and have a folding cut out where they could place a collapsable wash basin. He is correct.Sinks are for cleaning, not cooking.
