Some nice to know things: Raul Julia passed away a few weeks after the release of street fighters Raul Julia had his final operation against cancer during filming, you can see that in the end he looks way lighter and paler than in the beginning. Raul Julia did M. Bison because his kids loved Street Fighter 2, and he only accepted it to be some kind of unforgettable hero to them. So in total he is the MVP with being a comedian during the phases when Jean-Claude Van Dam would deny coming to the movie shooting because his muscle were not big enough. As a kid, I adored this movie and had it on VHS my favorite line: What do you do when M. Bison throws a grenade to you? You take the grenade, pull the Pin and throw it back." Raul Julia is fucking amazing in this movie. His kids loved Street Fighter, which is why he did this movie, and he put in 100%. Van Damme was coked out of his mind during the filming of this movie, and sometimes wouldn't show up to set. They assigned a guy to keep an eye on him, and reign him in, but that guy was just as much of a partier and would get trashed with Van Damme. He probably pulls up his pants so he can do his signature split. And, of course, his kicks.
@Arch3an2 жыл бұрын
was about to make a comment about his pants, but saw this one. I am pretty sure he has his pants high so he can kick higher. If your pants are too tight or low, then it seriously reduces the height of kicks. I had discovered that accidentally when I was trying to stretch before exercising, I could barely get my leg above my waist, because of my pants being too low. After that, when I saw a van damme movie again, I realized why his pants are like that.
@Likexner2 жыл бұрын
We are actually wearing pants the wrong way. Its makes more sense to have the belt at actual waist height as opposed to hip height. Its better for movement. Its just fashion to wear your pants low nowadays. I must admit though that even with that considered, Van Dammes pants are still very high.

@@JasonBrant It is strange but kinda touching that he actually chose this knowing it would likely be one of his last roles just because his kids liked the game. If not his last film role then one of the last major roles the great French film star Louis Jourdan did was the villain Arcane in the movie The Return of the Swamp Thing directed by Jim Wynorski. I don't know if it was a contractual obligation but at least the original Swamp Thing was directed by Wes Craven. Even though it is also laughably bad, at least you can see why good actors would be willing to work with Craven. If you haven't seen either of them, might be good for the show. The "making of" this movie is really interesting. It was De Souza's first major directing role, with him previously being famous for writing die hard and commando. But Capcom pretty much walked all over him and kept forcing him to add more characters, hence the bloat. Raul Julia had major surgery during filming, so they had to reschedule all his fight scenes, and JCVD kept missing work. So the stunt team kept having to do random fights between random characters just to have something to film. The whole crew and cast got food poisoning. Kylie Minogue was cast like a day before shooting started. JCVD was mostly high. And a collection of other random bat-shit stuff. It's incredible the film ever made it to theatre. And thank god it did, because it's amazing... hahaha

Man, I am legit curious what that KZbin-unfriendly joke was, considering how it cracked you both up so much. The film? Yeah, it's dumb, but I love it BECAUSE it's dumb. Raul Julia's clearly having a blast (his "I guess you didn't see that" line was an ad-lib, and is legit one of the best lines in the movie), and it's super hard not to get swept up in the insanity.

This is the greatest movie ever made and I'm not kidding. I've seen it at least 100 times and it never gets old. Me and my friends convinced my mom to take us to see it in theaters instead of Miracle on 34th Street and she was mortified lol. We loved the game and loved the movie even more. We laughed at how corny it was even back then and it's even funnier now! The behind the scenes stories about Van Damme being on cocaine the whole time are hilarious. It even ends with a track by Deion Sanders!

I seem to remember the Yomiuri Shimbun review of this movie starting out by saying (I'm paraphrasing from memory here): the concept of producing a movie based on a video game makes as much sense as writing an opera for a toaster. Btw, the budget was roughly $20,000,000; I suppose that was a decent amount for 1994. Probably a respectable budget for the average Van Damme vehicle...

Kylie was an actress before she was a singer. Here in the UK, she was famous for appearing on the Aussie soap "Neighbours", which was big over here in the late 1980s. She was on there with Jason Donovan, and both went on to have singing careers as a result of initial exposure on that show. Guy Pearce was also on it.

The definition of a so bad it's good film. It both earnestly tries construct some plot around the fights... while also clearly not taking itself at all seriously. Taken from the M. Bison Wikipedia page: “For the role, Raúl Juliá studied the lives and personalities of various dictators and drug lords, and as such mimicked many of their hand movements and body language to incorporate into the M. Bison character, most notably Benito Mussolini's hand gestures, Joseph Stalin's mannerisms and strict demeanor, Adolf Hitler's love of art, and Pablo Escobar's elusiveness. Other dictators and drug lords incorporated by Juliá include Fidel Castro, Muammar Gaddafi, Idi Amin, and Saddam Hussein. The film was Julia's final role before his death, and a dedication to him is included in the end credits. Julia claimed in an interview that he accepted the role for his children, who were huge fans of the games, helped him prepare for the role and were on set with him each day of filming. Although the film was largely panned by critics and fans, Juliá's performance was widely praised and he was nominated for a posthumous Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor (he lost to Gary Sinise for Forrest Gump).”

I watched the whole show where the Shockmaster incident happened on Peacock TV within the last year: Clash of Champions 24. It is even better with the context around it. Commentators Tony Schiavone and Jesse Ventura cracking up over it during the next match is especially good. During the entrance of Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (they made Steamboat wear a stupid dragon wing cape at the time) Ventura said "we are full of 'spectacular' entrances..." laughing through "spectacular." They made cracks all night, saying at the end that all the entrances had been "...shocking." I remember when it happened and it just highlighted how horrible WCW was at the time. And when Shockmaster actually wrestled at Fall Brawl they made poor Fred Ottman wear a plain sleeveless white dress shirt and a hardhat to the ring with his classic mullet and mustache combo. It completely deflated any potential the character had (which was very little to begin with) even when they switched gears and did promos with him being a bumbler. WCW absolutely needed the NWO and the Attitude Era over at WWF.
