I've come back to watch this guy's talent on his birthday. He was incredible and so fearless. In every one of those clips, he is the only guy that actually runs in and defends his ground - never hops backwards and hesitates to tackle (like Jones in every clip), he just does it and that's what made him so good. We haven't had a single defender like that since he's left. Defensively and physicality wise, he's the best defender that United have had. Exactly mate. This is difficult defending. Concentration is on serious test. The defender is caught btw and has to make the right decision here to prevent this eminent goal while risking a thru pass, an overhead pass or side pass to the onrushing opposition. Vidic instead opens up Abit and lures the attacker into taking the open space with clear chance for a shot. But vidic is absolutely brilliant here. He stores up a sliding tackle like a fully drawn arrow and lunches in last minute like lightening btw rocks. Incredible!

As Liverpool fan here i have to say our style of football makes it easy for VVD to keep the game flowing. We defend less due to our focus on winning the ball as back high up the field via pressing hard. Not many teams attack us. Our average possession in a game is always above 70%! So VVD doesn't really do much defending apart from keeping things ticking from the back and he does it great! Great player VVD but I've seen Vidic, i always used to be in awe of those two Vidic and Ferdinand. Man Utd didn't play the kind of football we play and they like attack mostly from through counter or in some games they just attacked and attacked but gave chances away. Vidic was perfect for that style of game. If i had to compare between VVD and Vidic then i would say Vidic was a crazy, aggressive and old fashioned maniac who was too good. Vidic was a beast and one of the best defenders of all time imo and he had the perfect partner Ferdinand who was also pure class! Both complimented each other perfectly in the way they played. VVD has a long way to go before being seen as an equal to Vidic or above Vidic. He is nowhere near Vidics defending capabilities. Vidac was not tall and not that big like compared to VVD and yet he was unbelievable! VVD is still a child compared to Vidic or Ferdinand.

Terry. T.silva) But its hard to find The Tough and crazy ones especially in this Modern era .. some players i can name( Vidic. Ramos. Baresi. R.Carvalho.)

I love how he's well committed to his sliding tackles, he's always aiming to get the ball out of the player no matter what. Its simple, if you're scared to get hurt don't play with him, and if a player uses theatrics to press fouls, he is good as dead. You can rarely see VVD slide or even tackle, VVD is great on interceptions and clearing the ball. Vidic deserves the attention especially when the other lane was held by Phil Jones which makes MCU playing with 2 GKs (VDS & Vidic)
