@@ottomorris8007 I think that's the point of her decluttering process. You CAN have an organized car with kids but, as the laws of entropy suggest, it's easier not to. So it's important to put an conscious effort into bettering your space and making it work for you and your family's needs and I don't think it's right to shame people who are being open about making that conscious effort.

I banned eating in the car and it has made such a big difference! Also everyone takes everything out when they leave the vehicle this way stuff doesn’t accumulate. And if there’s any trash we usually put it in the door pocket and take it out as we exit the vehicle or empty it while we pump gas. Simple habits that if they are implemented makes you feel so great about your vehicle ( even if it’s a junkier one) and makes the ride much more enjoyable! I’ve heard of people having a designated day of the week for cleaning out their car. I’m just finding that it’s a lot easier to just do it every time you exit the vehicle. If the kids bring a toy into the car they can leave the car with it. And it’s not good for the kids to learn boredom snacking. If we’re going somewhere locally they should be able to not starve to death getting them point A to point B. Even on short trips (3-4 hours) we don’t allow snacking. Water and that’s it! I have 6 kids and ever since I started implementing these simple principles my vehicle has stayed clean. I used to have a built up of messes prior to doing this. It’s well worth it. And it provides a mind shift to where you are not going to go back to the old ways. Try it!

A friend with 6 kids told me she always had her kids carry “2handfuls” into the house because they have 2 hands and are going in anyway. Helps so much. Also, when I get gas now I throw out all trash. I have 2 minutes anyway, might as well use it. That has helped a lot!

I'm a little obsessed with keeping the car tidy. Its always grossed me out when I catch a glimpse of other peoples dirty cars so I've always kept mine tidy and detail it pretty regularly. I have 4 kids and I just make sure they don't take anything except one toy each into the van and then it gets taken out when we get back home. Whenever I detail the car I usually take the car seats apart and wash them too so I know everything is clean. We very rarely eat out so that's not usually an issue but we roadtrip at least 6 times a year so that's when it gets nasty and I always detail it when we get home again

Bought my first brand new van when my kids were small. Only drank water in it because I did not want the spills and only ate cracker type food because it was easy to vacuum. I used scotch guard andarmor all on it every time I vacuumed it. I kept that van for almost 20 years (yes 20), and the interior was still absolutely perfect. I was anal about tire rotations and windshield wipers, and oil changes also. I loved that thing. Hauled a million kids, animals, groceries, bicycles, plants, atheletic equipment and anything else you can imagine.else. Took a bunch of trips. So many wonderful memories.

I had 4 boys and my mini van NEVER looked like that because I had certain rules, like, no food in the car and if you brought it in you took it out or I tossed it etc. I also set the example and did not trash my car with any of my own stuff. Sorry, but being a parent is not an excuse for such a mess. As a parent you set the example and your kids will follow. If you treat your things well and set that example your kids will follow...if you treat your things like crap then your kids will follow that example as well.

I am someone who has to have a clean car always. I have 3 children (they are in college and older now) but even when they were young I kept my car clean. It is a bit of an obsession. I would go to the local free vacuums and vacuum the car even when they were in their car seats. Also every day I brought in everything from the car that didn’t belong there. I still do that. I find it is easier to do a little bit each day than to let it build up and have an overwhelming mess. You did a great job on your car detailing. Hopefully you can maintain it and won’t get too bad. Loved this clean declutter I know a lot of people who have shockingly messy cars. Some hints for keeping it clean always have an old carrier bag available to take all rubbish out after every trip. I used to have several nicely packed in the boot (trunk) to quickly grab when getting the kids out of the car and I used to fill it with everything that did not belong in the car. Once inside I’d empty the bag and put things away or through out rubbish returning the bag the next time I went anywhere. I’d do a quick clean inside once a week to maintain the cleanliness. Hope this helps... K xxx

The shampooing was the most satisfying thing I've seen in awhile. May need to invest in a shampooer at some point. And now feel very motivated to clean out my car! We drive a small hatchback and it always feels so full of stuff, but it's mostly essential like the stroller, a roadside emergency kit, blanket, tire pump, and gas can. At least I can take care of all the things that build up like kids' clothes and toys, sand, and crumbs...SO many crumbs.

Maybe it's because i don't own my car (I drive my mom"s but she's the same way) but I don't keep hardly anything in my car--maybe an umbrella, some kleenex, the snow brush, and a reusable shopping bag---but everything that comes into the car with me leaves when I get home! I know, not practical for some people, but it also makes vacuuming the car a lot easier when I choose to do that.

I highly recommend a car trash bag on the back of a head rest that the kids can reach. Also the rule I had growing up and now use for my son is whatever you bring in the car, you take out of the car and only 1 toy and 1 lovey allowed (depending on length of trip). If you need to hang these use carabiners to clip them on the back of headrests in the trunk area.

Thanks for the motivation! I’m actually one that tries to keep the car clean all of the time. I commute a little over an hour each way to work everyday so my car is a place I get to decompress in after work each day. I even have a monthly unlimited membership to the car wash.

I had a Sienna for over 15 years, then donated it to a family shelter. Great vehicle.

WOW. Now, I appreciate how brave you are. That's what I need for not feeling crap. I am not the only one with such a chaos in th car. However, I am using it alone.... Thank you Nat! 💜💐🙋♀️

I found keeping some sort of place for trash keeps the car so much cleaner! I just used an old shoebox lined with a plastic bag and put one where the kids sit and one in the front. It gave them somewhere to put trash when they needed to instead of just throwing it on the floor etc. And made it so much easier to clean as all the trash is in one or two places and you can easily empty them out. Great job detailing! Hello from Australia 🇦🇺😊.

My van is way worse than yours was so don’t feel bad. It definitely reflects that I have 5 kiddos. I used to clean it every Thursday before picking up my step son from school. Life has changed quite a bit and that’s not part of my schedule anymore. I do miss having that time set aside. I would love more information on your carpet cleaner!!!! One tip I will say has been a game changer for keeping the van on the cleaner side is having the kids check their backpacks in to the front seat after school. This would stop my 5 year old from taking all her papers out and leaving them on the floor. We also don’t allow them to bring toys in the car. Most days my husband says they aren’t allowed to eat in the car but I’m a busy mom of 5, we are eating in the car if it means I get to sit down and eat for once. 😂

During the mom van years, there were times I needed a shovel to dig out all the stuff from the 5 of us. Great job , Natalie. Now the van is all mine, and I still struggle to keep it looking good. However, I miss all the fun travel we had together, even is we did make a mess.

I'm finally got up on Natalie's videos! 🚘 I love her so much, she's been giving me so much inspiration! My husband and I are looking at getting out 1st house next yr so I've been feeling at a stand still on what to do in our current apt but she's been giving me ideas again!

My dad instituted a rule when we were younger so that before we could go back in the house, we had to collect all our garbage and anything we brought in with us. He also tried to ban eating in the car but it wasn't always practical so it didn't stick too much.

Thank you so much for the motivation! I seem to always slack on the car cleaning. Now I need to deep clean mine ☺️👍🏻

I just bought an 07 Sienna! We try not to go into debt for cars either. I appreciate your real life videos and being unapologetically different from the world. 🥰

I think any parent has experienced this car clean up process. I loved your face at the dried up apple core! I'm new to your channel. This was so true and approachable - it gives me hope. Ignore the haters. I bet they'll wander back, because you have a good attitude and a kind heart.

Your van looks awesome! I like the idea of keeping a diffuser and oils in the car! Back in April before it got too hot here in Texas, I washed and detailed my SUV inside and out for the first time since my 2.5 year old was born. I've always been one to keep my car super clean but don't have much time for it these days. What helps me keep it clean now is I make sure to get all our stuff that isn't stored in the car and trash out each day. I even have my 2.5 year old help! Once we get home from work and daycare, she knows to help grab anything that is hers and put it in her backpack to take inside. I also make sure we don't keep anything that can melt or go bad in the car due to the extreme heat we get here. For dust and some crumbs, I keep a Swiffer Duster refill in the console to wipe off the dash and controls every so often.

Woke up early today to get both of our cars washed, oil change, and I vacuumed the inside and it feels so good! Thanks for the motivation!

Satisfying! It can be unbelievable how out of control things can get - but that's history now!

Great video! You did an awesome job! For me, I’m pretty good about making sure my car isn’t cluttered, but I can’t say I actually clean it that often lol. Definitely could use a good dusting. But I have a rule that each time I get home, anything that doesn’t belong in the car comes inside with me. This makes it so much easier to keep my car tidy!

Pro tip: keep a car trash can in there beside the front seat or right behind it! Have all the items go in it right when you’re done! Also, I know oils can loose potency in higher heats so just make sure your oils are still good and not getting too hot in the car. Looks great girly!! 🥰

Just cleaned my car this weekend. Feels so good to have done. I have a 2 year old and we got lunch out. She said, "mom no eating in the car it's all clean". Yea, cleaning can even be appreciated by toddlers!
