DLR was with Van Halen for about 11 years or so in the beginning but Sammy had bigger hits with Van Halen the DLR ever did. Which was unheard of at the time. In my opinion, Van Halen publicity grew even more when Sammy joined the band

Yep, I have to agree. I loved Sammy & Michael Anthony & the band sounded their best during this era (I think). Of course, David Lee Roth fans won't agree but they outsold more records (cd's) than during Roth's time w/the band. Now, I wouldn't go to a concert because it isn't the group I remember.
