I always use that phrase I'm amazed someone else actually pointed that out I guess we're traveling on the same wavelength... There's a live recording, from 1974, of Frank Sinatra saying that to the Woody Herman Band before their solo ('I've Got You Under My Skin', from 'The Main Event (Live)'). Given Dave's eclectic tastes I wouldn't be surprised if he borrowed the phrase from Frank. 😊

That is because most of the people who enjoy good live music, and will show appreciation to the band by going nuts are screened out by network security. Its a real pain in the balls trying to get into the audience of a televised music performance, and you will stand around for 10 hours despite what ever the weather is doing that day. The band walked offstage, leaving Eddie alone, and got into their jet and took off without him. That's how Van Halen broke up. Why? Eddie was so stoned he couldn't play Eruption, going up to the mike and telling off the audience, saying they paid already so it doesn't matter.

I agree! Besides with so many people filming concerts on their iPhones I figured that thats good enough reason to just put my phone away & enjoy the concert. I can then go on youtube & see the footage someone else filmed & enjoy it again knowing that I completely soaked up every bit of the show. You really do miss a lot of the show when you your busy taping it on your phone. But each to their own, its the world we live in now.

Can't believe DLR broke his nose barely an hour before in the sound check when he missed the mic stand catch. Just pushed through. Seems out of it though. Maybe pain killers! Legend.
@nightfall9371
@nightfall9371 3 жыл бұрын
It wasn’t even soundcheck. It was actually the song they were performing for tv. They started out with Panama and that was the one shown on kimmel. DLR broke his nose while doing his spinning bar routine. He actually got through the first verse and chorus while constantly wiping his nose since he was bleeding bad. He walked off during the guitar solo to seek some help, then told the crowd what happened, Eddie played improvised solos to keep the crowd entertained and when he patched up they restarted. The tv actually showed the routine then used the take from after he was patched up and you can’t even tell they spliced it other than the camera switch. Look up David lee Roth incident and KZbin and you can watch both takes. The vid is about 15 min long and it’s camera footage from almost the front row

As someone who grew up with this song (thanks to my step dad who grew up in the 80s and 90s), I find it sad that the audience is just standing still with their phones up in the air. I'm 26 and grew up with the same technology. How are these people not jumping and/or rocking out like they should? Put your phones away and give these guys the respect they deserve.
@johnwattdotca

Giving musicians respect isn't part of the gig. You probably want old stars to talk more than sing. It's good these people aren't jumping and/or rocking out. They're not as stoned as Van Halen is.
