Love the rough mix. It shows how much you can do in the mix stage. It also shows just how good the raw tracks are by themselves

Ed’s use of simple effects; his dabbles of delay and phaser thru a full blown Marshall, some of which were very subtle - were another extension of his playing in as much as what he achieved thru the dynamics of his hands and phrasing. It shows that as much of the fiery aspects of his style as well as harmonic cleans or balls out killer tone, he was very consciously aware of everything he did and how it was to sound. Brilliant talent.

The only song they wrote in the studio during the VH1 sessions. Which is slightly odd considering they had so many other songs in a more finished state you would have thought they would have worked on instead of writing a whole new one.

Sad that out takes of an old song are miles better than anything on the radio today.

WoW! Fascinating to hear the early takes from where it started out to where it finally wound up. Took some fleshing out but turned out to be a masterpiece!

This also gives us all a clear picture of how many layers of guitar there are in the final recording .

@alexvanhalen Duder, these outtakes are so primo. How about re-releasing all the Roth era Van Halen albums in Super deluxe format; remastered in HD sound, complete with outtakes, alternate mixes and soundboard live tracks. Heck how about about quadraphonic sound Van Halen I? I would literally kill to hear this.

Now you see why you need a producer? Templeman brought this tune and others into focus..

Arrangement! It means all the difference between just a bunch of cool riffs and an actual SONG.
