I love this bed setup but I have watched many times trying to reconcile your measurements of 72” in length.. You have two 24” boards and the 6” board on bottom. That totals 54” so your gap that isn’t filled in has to be 18” to equal 72”. Also, where is your ottoman with cooler and bench area when bed is extended?
@LadyBugout
@LadyBugout Жыл бұрын
The platform measures about 68” altogether. The mattress measures about 72”. The base of the platform is 24”+ 6” (part with legs that pulls out). The top piece that sits on the base that moves into place is also 30” (I had to reattach a 6” piece to a 24” piece with brackets) to match the base. And there is an 8” flap that pulls up. I had originally intended to use three 24” boards which became too cumbersome so that may be the confusion-I may have been referring to those measurements at some point😝 Also my version one platform was 30 + 30 + 10 when I had the bench. I just slide the ottoman over beside the cabinet. Hope that helps.

Interesting idea!! I wonder that your bottom is where the hole area is. Even a metal frame could bend a bit if your head is up. I sleep with my head elevated and after a period of time my very thick mattress makes a "hole" where my bottom is. Takes time to happen, however..... Is there a metal framing further down, where the large middle board could remain to the upper end of the bed? Legs do not really add much weight or pressure... I think you have a winner here!! Seems to work well where you have located it.
@LadyBugout
@LadyBugout 2 жыл бұрын
I never thought of that. I don’t think it will be an issue as my bottom is where the mat has a full piece… but I’ll look into it☺️

Hi Dee. I just finished the inside of my 2016 Transit connect van. So far I have taken out the passenger seat for Archer. I put down plywood for the floor, carpeted the walls and ceiling, installed a MAXXFAN with remote. I am ready to build the bed. I have the table extension, adjustable legs, throw rug, pad and your adjustable couch in the checkout bag on Amazon. Before I pay, I wanted to check with you to see if your bed has made you happy? If there is anything else I need to buy for the bed besides the plywood, and ask if you know a similar couch were I could get a different color besides beige? Yours is 39inches wide and all the others on Amazon with different colors are 43inches wide. I only want it 39inches like yours. I am soooooo excited to finally start making the bed, because everything else will be built around that. I sold the DISC-O-BED. Lost $140. because of Ebay's 12.9% selling fee, and shipping. Your bed will be so much nicer. I don't have as much room in my van as you, but I will have to make it work. I want to make this van as nice as possible incase it turns out to be too small for Archer and I. I can always later sell it, and buy a larger van if I have too. I am really enjoying the build so far. Being a retired contractor, I get to use the skills again. February is almost here. Can't wait to see the snow. Seeing Archer frolic thru the snow by a tall mountain will make me cry with joy. Thank you for being you. David and Archer

I am happy with my set up. I thought they had other colors available…I know someone who reupholstered theirs on their own😝 the great thing about Amazon orders is that returns are easy. If you find something doesn’t quite work for your specific needs, just return it!!!☺️

@@LadyBugout I received the table extensions yesterday and had everything ready to build the bed, so I finished it yesterday. It works great, and I didn't have to move the leg to the inside like you did. Van design difference. I received the rug and pad also. I am going to wait until I am almost ready to leave until I buy the actual bed so it won't get dusty. I'm hoping I can find a darker color with the size needed for the frame. Now that I have the frame built I can build around it. Thank you again for this BED frame idea. It was fun and easy to build. Take care. I pray for your safety and your adventure. David and Archer

The extenders are genius. You could have made the floating piece of plywood equal to both the other pieces put together. Couch mode would be an even surface (instead of a 3/4" dip in the front portion) and it would fill more of the support gap in bed mode.

That slide out piece of wood could be made much lighter by getting a doorknob hole attachment for your drill and drilling random polka dot pattern holes in it! I have arthritis in my hands and I would have to lighten it a bit or have finger holes for grabbing it to slide out.

An idea might be ski wax between the wood if it starts to swell with the different temperature of the slider bed frame. For it to slide in and out easier along with the metal, WD-40 is sometimes a good product when it comes to squeaks and tweaks !

@marlenen6130
@marlenen6130 2 жыл бұрын
That looks pretty slick and I have a few ideas to make it easier to move. There is some wood wax that you could put on all the sliding pieces that would make it slip into place easier. Think of it like skies or a surfboard, it’s protective and allows for things to slip better. You could attach a few pieces of leather to the boards to have a hand hold, or cut out hand holds by drilling two large holes a few inches apart, then just cut out the middle to make an oval shape. If you attach some leather straps to the headboard, and put a magnet on it, then you can have the straps attach to the back door, then just grab the strap to pull the headboard up, rather than stretch, twist and lift-which is dangerous for your back! I’m a nurse so I can’t help but see potential injuries over the long haul. If you have time to round the edges and do a little sanding you can avoid painful edge bumps and slivers too. If you don’t have time now, it looks easy enough to do that later. You might even be able to attach leather straps to the boards so they fall into place. Also, you could rig a pulley system that could hold the hold thing upright if you needed more horizontal space from time to time, like moving furniture or supplies. Using pulleys, leverage, carpet sliders and counterweight are ways to move heavier items without injuring yourself.

To keep that middle plate in place, you can drill 2 holes of 10mm on the end wood, and the other plate it connects to the same right opposite each other, and you can then knock in a wooden tap, glued 1 side You can also do this with blocks of the same thickness from your plate, and then on the other plate where it fits against you saw the recess, (Just like a puzzle piece) (PS : my Greetings from Belgium)

Well ain't that sometin. I've been single 9 yrs but now I certainly hope when I do get a gf, that she will have the ability to learn things as you have. My wife from yrs ago just did not want to learn to build things or go on adventures. As an ole biker, sleeping next to my bike used to be good enuf but I now have a lil bus to pull my bike and need to get moving with the bus build. Hope to meet good people like u, out there on the road. Stay safe n b careful.

I love how you change things around - like redecorating or renovating a sticks 'n brick home! However, my experience is that as companies, HD & Lowe's may advertise that they will cut your wood, *not all* can/will do so. In fact, I have never been able to get them to cut anything for me, not even my most recent request to cut a 10-foot long 1"x2" into a 6-footer and a 4-footer, both to fit the needed dimension for my project and so that I could fit it into my vehicle. I ended up sawing the 1x2 myself at their "sawing station" (which was a frame cart on wheels, equipped with a variety of hand saws and , a pencil, a tape measure and a 2x4 to serve as the stabilizing brace/straight edge). My project, using the screen door that I bought at that HD and those 1x2s I cut, fits and works like a charm, creating an open-but-separate hallway area for the cats =:^)

Before anyone ask, "Oh, yeah?", actual excuses at my local stores have been:: -- The person who can run the saw is unavailable. -- The saw is broken. [three different times at the same store] -- The saw cannot saw that low. [it was a vertically mounted sawing bed] -- The saw cannot saw those dimensions. [again, the vertically mounted saw] -- We don't do that, but there's a sawing station in the next aisle.

Very nicely done. That is way overbuilt for someone of your size but, that is much better than being underbuilt. Great idea to use those table leaf sliders. I had not seen that done before. You can rub those sliders with some bar soap which will provide some lubrication and they will slide with less effort. This might become important if that wood swells some during damp days. Safe travels.

For our 2018 Pro-Master City, I made a 28 " x 72" bed out of a luan door I bought at RE_store for $15. Made two ends out of 1/2" and short table legs for support, had 5 storage bins underneath. (Fold up bins from Amazon. It was low enough so she could sit upright (38") We built a sink & desk unit with a drop-down computer shelf, 5-gallon water jug underneath and 3-gallon grey water jug. It went from the passenger seat to the back with enough room to store a fold up camp chair in the back. since she had two sliding doors, I wanted her to be able to get out on the drivers side and get right in without having to go around the van. On her first trip out to see a friend, she took way too much STUFF. By the second or third it was paired down.

Air bottom of your mattress If you are around Pipeline jobs ---- see if they have a piece of rock shield they could let you have. They always have scrap pieces and what it is, is a very dense rubber, very cushiony, and millions of holes all the way through it. I put a piece of that under my mattress lots of air circulation. Nothing better than free For sure good air circulation leave it sticking out on all sides of your bed. Just a quarter of an inch would be plenty just so that your mattress isn't going flat down and then the air can't get in. Does that make sense ?

I looked at the site with your new matress/Bed. I am in my Honda CRV. My narrowest part od my bed platform is 24 inches. The site showed that the folding chair is 22 inches wide. I thought it would ba a good fit. But, it looks like your folding chair is 36 inches. Do I have that right?

Great idea and good job! If it’s ok to suggest something. How about a facia board perhaps with an opening in the middle to access things underneath? You could just use a magnetic door front to simplify things or you could use hinges. Just a thought. To digress, are those Duckfeet boots you’re wearing? 😊
