5:30 Norwich boy here. The "Ham" ending is a Saxon suffix not a viking one. Places ending in "by" and "vik" and "thorpe" like Hemsby, Woodbastwick and the Thorpe suburb of Norwich are viking or Danish. Norfolk and Suffolk were the Saxon (not viking) north folk and south folk of regional east anglia nothing to do with vikings or the rest of the country... the vikings came hundreds of years after the Angles and Saxons and lots of East Anglia was already settled and had place names...

We've just got back from four months in Scotland and had absolutely no problem at all. We only used campsites twice, we mainly used Forest and land Scotland sites, National Nature reserve sites and some communities have great little sites at a cost but cheap enough. There are also plenty of black waste sites and Revolution laundry stops for clothes washing. We've been going for months at a time over the last eight years, never a problem. If you are National Trust there are many sites you can overnight in for free.

About the only time you see buildings such as that are in Boston Massachusetts where I was born. My ancestors came from both Wales, Yorkshire and mostly Scotland. Sorry! I am very excited for you both going on your NC500 Scotland trip! It was the trip that inspried my entire van life adventure obsession and you have sparked my memories........However there is the most incredible "alternative route" to Scotland which Sunflower (my van) took me on after some years van life. If you Come off the A1 at Blubberhouse when your head north. You can cut out ALL the boring A1, motorway and main roads the entire way to Scotland! driving through the stunning YORKSHIRE DALES then onto the LAKE DISTRICT via KENDAL on nothing but beautifull country lanes. To see the best, and i really mean the absolute best parkups in the lake district and England, by a huge lake head on from Kendal to "WAST WATER" beside Englands tallest mountains including Skafel pike. you can park there by the lake in the little bays scatterd along overnight despite the signs here and there. From "WASST WATER" Following the west coast from above the lakedistrict is just the most beautifull scenic country drive. From "WASST WATER" head to the incredible "SOLWAY COAST" and then the "ESK ESTUARY". A river side country drive for miles and miles through an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a view of Scotish mountains across the water at all time as you head North. Still staying off motorways and big roads, following the old B roads closer to the coast, castles begin to appear. Heading towards "CAERLAVAROCK CASTLE" keeps you off the busy roads. From there the west coast is simply the dogs rollocks and you can join onto the NC500 route and go all the way to the north west coast of Scotland. Over excited nutter here!!!Sunflower has a ferry to Holland in 4 days.We are heading off on a dream trip south through Europe to West Africa via Morocco and Mauritainia, to go on a self Safari in Southern Senegal to attempt to see a hippopotimus! becase you have got to have dreams and goals in van life right! 🎉❤ peace and love

Scotland is huge and almost all of it is beautiful. The climate is changing and for the last few years we haven't had really bad weather in Nov and even Dec. If you stay on the west coast there is the gulf stream which means it doesn't get as cold as some of Scotland and there is loads of roads/tracks off the tourist trail if you avoid the NC500 and just as good, if not better. If you get to the best bits, ie the highlands, the cliche is true, if you don't like the weather in the Highlands, wait 10 mins!

Love you guys, you inspired me to get a van & travel with my little reactive rescue dog as she doesn't have much of a full life being very antisocial and I wanted to make her world bigger and full of better experiences 🐾 we've been traveling over a month now and although being solo is at times difficult we are officially full time van lifers now and she loves it 🙂
@pauljackson1419Ай бұрын
We also have a reactive rescue dog - a Patterdale terrier who was used as bait for fighting dogs in his first year, so doesn't get on with other dogs, but loves people. He absolutely loves going away in our campervan. The beauty is we can find quiet, out of the way places to walk him. Good luck with your travels and well done for homing a reactive dog - there's loads of them about but they'll never get to meet up for obvious reasons!
@LittlePeaAndMeАй бұрын
@@pauljackson1419 thank you and Im glad your little one is ok now and gets to have the love and care he deserves and great adventures 😊 they really do deserve to live a life full of love and the same experiences as all other dogs, it’s just a shame a lot of dog owners don’t understand the needs of reactive dogs. Some people really don’t deserve dogs. My little one hate everything unfortunately people and animals i don’t mind though she’s worth it and you’re right we just go away from others and avoid the negative interactions. And signs lots of signs lol on the van and harness etc.

I think it’s very confusing for the van lifers who have put a huge amount of thought into their lifestyle why they would be unwelcome anywhere. What are they doing to deserve this?! Of course it really was the few that spoiled it for the rest and now I don’t think there’s really that many of them around anymore, just ignorant of the healthy and respectful protocols that van lifers live by. In the UK the nimbys are the same no matter the region you are in, just wanting it for themselves and delighted to get ammunition from some people’s behaviour during Covid. But fear not, Scotland will welcome you, the majority of us are proud of our countryside and really want others to enjoy it too. Wonderful video, I’m always so happy when one appears, you are such a genuine and fun couple and your wee dogs are a credit to you. Much love and happy travels ❤❤
