Chesca, the symptoms displayed by you were very concerning and, I hope it does not happen again, but if it does, please seek emergency medical care. When someone is vomiting and in those degrees of temperature, the risk to get very dehydrated is very high and the fact that you were desorientated means that there was a serious electrolytes imbalance which can lead to cardiac arrest. I hope you are totally recovered now. Lots of love from Portugal ❤️
@Jayapullani10 ай бұрын
It could have been heatstroke, sunstroke. I was quite ill from that last year for a while and ended up in hospital. I have also seen people vomit with it. Later they discovered the electrolytes and Vitamin D defeciency.
@OverlandingSophia10 ай бұрын
I know it was really bad 😔 We were nowhere near a doctor or even a pharmacy where we were parked. We usually have electrolyte sachet stuff but threw a load away at Christmas because it had got wet and ruined. The disorientation was horrible, the thirst was worst than the throwing up, it was almost maddening. By the end I was drinking water and juice anyway just to get some fluid, even if it came out again 20 minutes later. We need to make sure we re-stock our first aid kit for times like that. Never knew you could get shock or cardiac arrest from electrolyte imbalance!

I bet you were crossing between the mountain ranges that creates the famously feared “tehuantepecer winds”. I never thought of the shore side effects of that area. As sailors go up and down the Pacific coast they have to make that passage between the peak of those conditions typically in January. Some try to stay so close to land they call it “dog bark navigation” as in if you can’t hear the dogs on shore you’ve gone too offshore to keep protected by the land. Getting blown offshore is very dangerous in those conditions. Keep on trucking!

Not at all! We didn't really make it clear in the video but when we left the coast to reach the town of San Cristobal, the temperatures dropped massively. At the coast where it was 35 celsius, we never left the dogs in the van. They stayed outside with us in the shade. At the campsite in San Cristobal, we're shaded under trees and the temperature was only around 23 celsius so with the fans on, they were much more comfortable being left alone for a couple of hours. Bummer you got for poisoning. San Cris is actually famous for having the worst water in all of Mexico and everyone we know for sick there when they visited. Hopefully you guys didn't catch any more of those bugs. You will love Guatemala.

Honestly guys we heard so many horror stories about San Cris that after my ordeal in Oaxaca, we’ve been showering here with our mouths closed 😂
@malimish10 ай бұрын
@@OverlandingSophia that's kind of my theory about why this happens so much there. I think when people get this far down into Mexico and if they haven't gotten sick yet, they start to think they are bulletproof and are just gargling the water in the shower! 😆

Sorry guys, I didn't worn you about going to Mexico and drinking the "water /ice" their water treatment isn't the same as in America (often times, there's feces and / or other bacterical microbial in the water / ice). In America, the water treatment is safer, it goes through multi stages of treatment to remove the bad stuff.
@OverlandingSophia10 ай бұрын
Don’t worry we already know not to drink the water! There are agua purificada stations all over Mexico where we can get filtered water to fill the van with. This illness was probably something I ate, as only I got sick and not Ben.

Ok so a note to travelers in small towns they often don't have doctors. In medium to larger towns and cities they have lots of doctors. Issues like flu, cold, food poisoning are common and cheap for treatment, many big pharmacies will have a doctor that works for them and if you are lucky the doctor will be at the pharmacy you are physically in but if not, say I feel sick, vomit is vomit in Spanish. It's close enough to understand. Nausea is nausea in Spanish.. again if you say it they will understand.. and diarrhea is diarrhea in Spanish. It will not be @$30 bucks worst case scenario but you may need to go a few blocks or take a cab ride for $3-6 bucks to get to the other pharmacy. Many doctors get a sitting fee to keep office hours at a location and they get a per appointment fee and a small commission if you buy the drugs from the pharmacy.. Mexico doesn't have the same formulary as United States.. but nobody has the same formulary as the United States..so if you want some obscure drug you saw on TV in the states they don't have it. For most food poisoning they give you 2,3 meds and one will be an antibiotic, and if your condition is not the best, they will give you a kicker and give you a strong injection of antibiotics and then you need to take the cycle that they prescribe.. and often they have another med that is like a probiotic that kills whatever is living down there but doesn't work as fast as an injection and tablets..if you are on a bicycle, motorcycle or van driver you have to get up to speed fast and they know that.. you can get a walk in consult for as little as $6,7 bucks.. and pills not much more and injection $4-6 bucks..

Since you're already in San Cristobal drive down to the Yucatan and go into Guatemala through Belize, it's a great way to see the Yucatan and Belize before you get to Guatemala. Why drive all those miles without seeing the best of Mexico (Yucatan) and Belize too.
@OverlandingSophia10 ай бұрын
We actually can't drive down to Costa Rica and Nicaragua because we have a RHD van, so we're shipping from Veracruz to Colombia. We're doing a loop of Guatemala, up into Belize and then into the Yucatan, before heading back to Veracruz to ship!

That's too bad, Tapachula is a terrible border crossing. I drove the Pan Am back in the early 80's when the civil war was going on in Guatemala and most of the bridges had been blown up but a few had make shift temporary bridges. Vaya Con Dios. @@OverlandingSophia

You two better be extra careful. Similar couple on motor bikes were assaulted while they sleep in their tent by 7 men. The male was held at knife point and for over two hours all 7 men raped the female. They were beaten up also.

How much did the Laundry service cost? Are there coin op machines in Mexico?

Think it was about £3... very few coin op machines unless you go to a major city I think.
