Hi guys. On the subject of diesel. We carry 250ml bottles of dpf cleaner and diesel treatment which we add regularly to prevent having to do a re-gen and reduce crud building up in the fuel filter. Also if filling up from suspect Jerry cans on route we filter it through a funnel with old tights or pop sock types sleeved over it, then just throw them away. It’s scary how much sludge it filters sometimes. Easy cheap solution. It’s worked for the last 60,000 miles, taking us to 110k. Hope this helps 😉

That was exactly it, it wasn’t just the long drives down Baja either - it was off the back of those long drives through CA to reach San Diego, all the long days working on the brakes. Feeling a little exhausted and that beach was our light at the end of the tunnel 😆 But did we stay? Of course I can’t spoil that yet! 😏✨

We wouldn’t be able to take the ferry over to mainland without it. We also wouldn’t be able to leave without getting fined as you need it to exit the country. Not ideal to not have it!

@@hornz5 We'll be exiting via Guatemala so the border is different than at Tijuana, which has the 'border zone'. We'll also finally be flying from Mexico to Colombia so will be leaving via air, which is much more strict than land 😢

I have also done that in San Diego/Tijuana crossing. I had every intention of parking on the American side but realized I messed up somehow and was in Tijuana. Decided to pay for parking in a parking garage because my friend and I were only there for the day. All went well. However on the way back out of Tijuana we somehow would up on the marine base. We had no idea where we were at; passing many huge docked ships. It looked industrial other than that. We were low on gas and luckily found a convenient store/gas station and filled up my tank. And here's the kicker. trying to pay for the gas (Petrol-cheers you two) the gentleman asked me for my military card. I replied I did not have one. He asked how I got on base. Good question I replied, "near Tijuana". The attendant just huffed about my answer, used his own military card so I could pay for my full tank of gas, and personally went outside to show us how to get off the marine military base known as MCRD. This happened in 1989. Happy Birthday/Feliz cumpleanos Ben. 🥂🎂🎉

Could not get a extension for my visa, although i have only been in the US for six weeks not the 5 months that electronically they think I've been here due to my six days in Alaska in late May. We are currently in Australia and will be heading to the US once we get our RORO confirmed. We have a dog, and I was just wondering if it is difficult to travel to foreign countries with a foreign vehicle, ourselves, and our dog? We are thinking of giving her away as I'm worried about travelling in countries that have wild dogs roaming the streets. I would love to know what you think and would greatly appreciate any advice.

Lots of people travel with their dogs overland and while it can be a hassle ensuring they have the right documents, vaccinations etc, once you have it, it's very straightforward. Most land borders don't even ask for the paperwork for your dog. We have rabies tests, blood tests and passports for River and Scout but have never once been asked to show them. As to wild dogs, they are just a part of life in Central and South America. Most will be scared of strangers anyway and probably won't approach you. You just have to be aware when walking your dog etc and understanding your own dogs temperament when dealing with new dogs. With us for example, River is very submissive and easy around other dogs, but Scout can be defensive so we are more careful with him. He was a street dog himself. But if you're just in the US/Canada there aren't any stray dogs so that won't be a problem. It makes me sad to hear you're considering giving your dog away 😔 I'd recommend joining some Facebook groups like Overlanding Pets - they have great advice and it's full of pet owners who bring their dogs along for the adventure - all over the world!
