Average temperature at night was around -15 C / zero F, it did not get really cold until late February when there were a few weeks of -25 C / -20 F during the day, slightly colder at night.

For those watching this video, there could be a problem with the tubing going through those metal trusts. But there's an easy solution if you want to do the same: insert a small plastic or PVC tubing in the hole, then get the line through it. Tada!

Isn’t it refreshing to watch a van lifer who doesn’t spend 3 months teasing the audience with hints of a potential new van purchase? and maybe something to shield that wood support for the heater from the exhaust, something as simple as stapling some aluminum foil to the wood or cutting and using heat shielding for spark plug wires. another note while I am here, mounting the fuel tank above the heater won't help the pump to get fuel but it WILL allow that whole 10L of fuel to leak into the van if the hose breaks on those rails or anywhere else along the line. stay safe and merry Christmas, enjoy the van!

Put metal tubing on the fuel line under those metal supports. Omg you don’t want a diesel leak the smell
@iguanamoat3 жыл бұрын
Amazing upgrade, can't wait to see what you do with it. A couple big safety recommendations for the diesel heater install: Since the combustion intake and exhaust pipe connections are on the inside of your van and bypasses the big oval silicone gasket, I highly recommend sealing the exhaust pipe side with high temperature/exhaust gasket RTV silicone. The hose clamp alone won't create an airtight seal and some exhaust gases will leak into the interior. The other thing is that the black rubber fuel line hose sections provided with these are notoriously bad. Mine started cracking after a year, and there are videos showing them basically crumbling to dust. In particular, if the section next to the combustion intake/exhaust starts to leak and diesel gets on the hot exhaust, it could start a fire inside your van. I suggest buying some name-brand fuel-rated hose from an auto parts store. It should be 1/8" inner diameter to fit over the plastic lines. Gates brand part# 27000 is one option in the states, not sure what you have. It's not the most common size, if it's hard to find I can send you some as I ended up with a lot extra.

Woot! I also have a 2500 express but not 4x4. Fyi, they are known to leak down the firewall into the passenger footwell area. It's because the small drain in front of the ac/heater core gets plugged. Debris gets in from the air inlet in front of the windshield. Easy to clean by removing the blower assembly.

Laminate flooring is luxury? I had no idea... Now talking seriously, I see luxury as something expensive, rare and/or not essential. The floor *needs* to be treated in order to preserve it. This 8 minute or so van building would have been a 10 episode boring reality show if it was on tv.
@RMJ19843 жыл бұрын
Probably more, because you are forgetting the 5-10 minute commercials. I will never understand why people are willing to pay for TV channels and also accept commercials. In my worlds it one or the other.

Can't wait to see the build come along. However! SLEEVE that Diesel line. It WILL puncture going through those drilled holes.
@danieltaylor33963 жыл бұрын
Those drilled holes need rubber grommets installed before feeding the fuel line thru.

Loved watching the process & you “thinking out loud” figuring it all out as you go. Solo. Minimal tools. In a parking lot. Building on your van that is your job & home.. Respect. Wow. 👍

The shot of the new van in a snow-covered parking lot at night with the snow falling with the Patron Supporters at 11:46 brought back nostalgic memories of the earlier FF videos haha.

Best wishes on your new van and home. You might want to consider encasing that fuel line in either plastic or metal conduit while the floor is still accessible. Good luck.
