@@HairGlitter I have been listening to Van for 50 years and agree that these performances at the 1980 Montreux were truly some of his best live. I never seem to get tired of his music.

In the olden times, people like Van the man would be classed as walking talking saints, This man never said start a war, hit and hurt your neighbor and everyone around you, he never said hate and show great dislike to others, All that Van the man has done was write and played his magical music, he has helped to heal millions of people all over this world with his words and songs of great wisdom and wonder, Van brings you in to the mistic, he will help to heal sad and hurt minds, ease the pain, give great joy and hope to all and help you to see a much better way, Thank you Van for who you are and for all that you gave and continue to give.

Well said James - and how absolutely true. I've been in the presence of the great Man a few times but felt it would be quite disrespectful to invade the space of a true healer!

The band are stellar too, plenty of musos can play technically very well, but to have the sensitivity, restraint and just plain old simple good taste just to play what is needed 'in the service of the song' without ego is a much rarer quality! One of his best bands ever...

I am 38 and i only discovered Van Morrison,that is i really got into him about 5 years ago,I like all of us had heard his music on the radio,Brown Eyed Girl,Jackie Wilson Said and Bright Side Of The Road etc..,Ahhh but when,after sifting through my just departed wonderful Mother's record collection i discovered the album Astral Weeks and i am not ashamed to say i cried like " An Angel Child " , from then on i really found out why he is so influential in what i had been and still listen to today. Thank you Van,but most importantly, Thank you to my dear Mother for somehow allowing me to grieve for the loss of you by playing that beautiful album and others , Love and Miss you forever Mary.

Spread your wings Come on fly awhile Straight to my arms Little angel child You know you only Lonely twenty-two story block And if somebody, not just anybody Wanted to get close to you For instance, me, baby All you gotta do Is ring a bell Step right up, step right up And step right up Ballerina Crowd will catch you Fly it, sigh it, try it Well, I may be wrong But something deep in my heart tells me I'm right and I don't think so You know I saw the writing on the wall When you came up to me Child, you were heading for a fall But if it gets to you And you feel like you just can't go on All you gotta do Is ring a bell Step right up, and step right up And step right up Just like a ballerina Stepping lightly Alright, well it's getting late Yes it is, yes it is And this time I forget to slip into your slumber The light is on the left side of your head And I'm standing in your doorway And I'm mumbling and I can't remember the last thing that ran through my head Here come a man, here come a man and he say, he say the show must go on So all you gotta do Is ring the bell And step right up, and step right up And step right up Just like a ballerina, yeah, yeah Crowd will catch you Fly it, sigh it, c'mon, die it, yeah Just like a ballerina Just like a, just like a, just like a, just like a ballerina Get on up, get on up, keep a-moving, moving on, moving on, moving on up Little bit higher, baby You know, you know, you know, get on up baby Alright, a-keep on, a-keep on, a-keep on pushing, keep on, keep on pushing Stepping lightly Just like a ballerina Ooo-we baby, take off your shoes Working on Just like a ballerina

An extraordinary performance by John Platania. So, so original in its approach, but perfectly tasteful - unflashy, but virtuosic. The piano player as well, excels himself here. And VM's vocal is sheer perfection. A masterful band performance!

@ADADMAN28 жыл бұрын
I uploaded a similar comment before in a different youtube video of the same version of this live performance of ballerina. I think that it is Thomas Hardy meets "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" "Ballerina" has oblique references to un-expressed love: "And if somebody, not just anybody Wanted to get close to you For instance, me, baby" This is like a Hardy Novel. "But if it gets to you And you feel like you just can't go on All you gotta do Is ring a bell Step right up, and step right up And step right up Just like a ballerina" This is like "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" But I think the whole song is much more subtle and complex than "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" Gawn
@carmelcrowley15811 ай бұрын
On the left side of your head. All you got to do is ring the bell just like a ballerina. Step right, I maybe wrong something in my heart writing when forlorn whatever gets to you, can't go on .
