I love that walking bass line! That totally holds this song together.

The thing about Van Morrison - is this rock? Jazz? Blues? Soft rock? Yes.

This is one of those rare songs that is perfect, the lyrics, the clear music, where every note is necessary and where one note less or extra would change the song. Here you hear every subtle sound and it’s necessary.

Van Morrison has been singing and playing professionally since 1958, when he was 13 years old, and is still going today. I know for sure he plays harmonica, guitar, piano, bass, saxophone, and drums, and who knows what else. He became a songwriter when his teenage band Them somehow scored a residency at a hotel bar in his native Belfast and didn’t know many songs, so he made them up onstage, stream-of-consciousness ad-libbing. He’s in the Rock & Roll and Songwriter’s Halls Of Fame. He’s North Irish, of course, but his dad had lived in Detroit and had one of the largest American record collections in Ireland, so Van grew up listening to American blues, jazz, and rock and roll. Anything from ‘Astral Weeks’ or ‘Moondance’ is amazing. “Beside You” from ‘Astral Weeks’ is unique. I challenge you to define a beat. On this track he uses his voice like Miles Davis uses his trumpet on ‘Kind Of Blue’, and the lyrics are more to paint a picture or mood than for literal meaning. It’s free jazz between two excellent rhythmic tracks in “Astral Weeks” and “Sweet Thing”. He amazes me.kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZaVaISXoLiDrq8

Van the man is a multi-talent for many instruments and at the same time he`s one of the hardest-working songwriters ever. One of his best albums is (just for me) "The Healing Game" ! No matter what song you listen to, somehow they`re all perfect. I had to buy this vinyl album twice because I thought there would never be another work like this. Best regards @all from Hamburg (Germany)

Van Morrison is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist. His recording career spans nearly seven decades. He can play guitar, harmonica, keyboards & saxophone. In the mid 60's he was in the band "THEM" & their biggest hits were "Gloria", "Baby Please Don't Go", "Here Comes The Night" & "Mystic Eyes". Van Morrison later went solo & has had lots of hits such as "It Stoned Me" , "Have I told You Lately", "Crazy Love", "Domino", "Jackie Wilson Said" etc.
