Lol! No we both do the pro seal together 😜 he just started all the deburring and fluting and match drilling. Fuel tanks should be the next video (or two depending on how long they get trying to cover everything - literally and metaphorically 😂)

Your C/S cutter should fit on your deburring tool. That way, the pilot pin will provide guidance and help keep things lined up.

It was a pleasure getting to meet you both at Oshkosh this year. I was with my daughter and just happened to see you by the Best Tugs booth. Not having a kit (maybe someday) it's not one part in particular but the process that I look forward to watching. Seeing the triumphs over the daunting and overcoming the road bumps along the way, all helps break down some of those fears that I have. I'm still building up confidence that I could possibly pull off a build someday. Love the airplane and youtube airplane community. Keep up the great work! P.s. I was all excited for the Scrappy Spar samples when Mike announced them. I ran upstairs to tell my wife about them. She gave me the what are you going to do with those? talk. And I ended up not getting them. The irony if I win and what they do is help inspire her or my daughter. Would be the best double win ever.

Love seeing you back! You asked for comments about what we'd like to see in future videos... I've only seen 1 other person talking about planning for instruments, antennas, etc. Since all those decisions can affect everything from nose to tail, when did you start thinking and planning for all that? Can you give us some ideas on what your plans are? When did you start? What mods have you made?

Thanks for making these videos! I would recommend using lube when taping holes (tap magic is good) but the stuff your using for coutersinking probably would work just fine.

Thank you for the awesome detail. I think for me the most daunting part vs the sling tsi beyond all the match drilling and solid riveting has to be the fiberglass work required for the doors, forming up the McMaster seals and on final assembly all the choices and vendors for interior fit out. I still have to fully decide sling vs rv10. Anyhow, the answer to the question - all the canopy work, 1000%. The other parts - Oshkosh vendor tour Speaking of would be great if someone put a vendor tour together for next year. See these 20 vendors for these parts related to Rv10 builds sort of thing.

I'd suggest that you watch Evan Bruney's Sling TSI build from 2-years ago going forward. The Sling canopy top involves a molded fiberglass fuselage top/doors. And, I'd also suggest that you run the performance numbers Sling -vs- RV-10. Both have 4-seats, but the RV-10 out-performs (clobbers) the Sling when there are 4-people in those seats. I'm building the RV-14 (2-seats) because my mission calls for 2-people a vast majority of the time, versus 4-people. If my mission were 3 to 4 people a majority of the time, I'd be building the -10, over the Sling.

I'm building a RV-9a and currently working on my fuselage. Almost two years into the build and I have finished empennage and wings. I'm looking forward to your fuel tank assembly process. We did both wings simultaneously so that we could build both tanks at the same time. This worked out well, but the wings still were long and somewhat boring because of the repetition. Keep pounding those rivets!

You are doing it the right way! I would build BOTH fuel tanks together so you can concentrate on the sealing & testing process, to get it OUT of the way.

Looking forward to seeing how you do the fuel tanks! I saw Tyler prepping one of them in this vid; the proseal mess - how do/did you deal with it (I recommend the Semco sealant gun) and how did they turn out using the balloon pressure test. Great channel, btw! Keep 'em coming.

Yeah... A slip while attending to the main wing spars could develop into the "DOH!" heard around the world. I've seen mods, cutting away a part of the foot of the micro stop cage to get into tight areas, but that wouldn't work in area you show. Too-tight, too-tall. Without a deep-dive into the plans, I don't know how many close-quarter holes on the -14 there are. I will be finding out later this year! Thanks for the video. BTW, I got a laugh out of how you two picked your tasks: You to Tyler: "You tackle the fuel tanks, I'll handle the main spar. (to yourself: "Dodged that bullet, but, dang! It's the main spar!") Tyler to you: "Okay - deal!" (Tyler to himself: "Dodged that bullet, but dang! It's the fuel tanks!")

So just a fun fact, the spars are NOT a matched set. When i received my kit, the numbers did not match. When calling Van's, the engineer explained to me that they were a matched set 10+ years ago, but that is no longer the case, and that you can absolutely order just the one if you ever had to. I can only speak to the RV-10, as that is what I am also building. The more you know :)

What's the difference between countersinking to receive dimpled skin vs countersinking to receive a countersunk rivet?

For the latter you are countersinking just deep enough for a countersunk rivet to sit flush to the surface. For the former there is a piece of dimpled skin that sits between the countersunk rivet and the countersunk piece, so you need to countersink the piece under the dimpled skin a bit deeper so that the dimple can sit in it. Make sense?

@@vsavatar plus (+) the .007” it mentions in Section 5.5, not minus. You countersink more when you have to fit a dimpled skin into the recess you’re creating versus just the countersunk rivet itself.
