I am in the middle of building a campervan out of a 1973 Ford Econoline 200 with only 28000 miles on it. This van runs like a beautiful Cadillac. Even though it is a little short the wife was still very persistent about putting a shower and toilet sink in there so I did manage to squeeze a 36"x36"x36" shower stall in the van. As well as a full kitchen a full size bed and my son asks, "dad" where do I sleep? So I whipped out the hammock and stretched it from one end of the van to the other.

I’ve been planning a stealth van conversion for a few years now. Right now I’m just in the “financing” phase (I.e., saving money). I love this video, because of the way you explain things. It would be great if you could do a video on the cost of the various components you installed in your van, including the port-a-potty. I especially like the way you’ve organized your van. You’ve pretty much proven that you can have more than ample storage space, and still have a decent amount of living space. Very impressive. I also like the secret storage space, and the “garage” under the bed. Very nice separation between plumbing/electrical, and actual living space. I find it very instructional, vs. the show and tell videos on stealth van conversions I’ve seen elsewhere on KZbin. Thanks.

So Ty- You did a beautiful job at customizing your van here. it's obvious that a lot of thought, design, preparation, installation and especially time has been invested into your personal Dodge (Mercedes Benz motor) van. And you should be very proud of your work on this tiny home. I drive a 2005 Dodge 2500 dually Sprinter Van that that is Highly Modified specialty Satellite Uplink truck. Which has 3 welded 19inch equipment racks with a desk across approximately where your refrigerator and bed are and is populated with broadcast gear. there are two small depth 19in racks with a small table behind the driver's seat along the wall. Two 1500BTU Penguin Air conditioners on the roof above side-by-side where your front fantastic fan is, and a 1.2m folding Satellite dish on the roof in the back which is the full width of the roof. and a 12KW 220v Onan Diesel Generator mounted just behind the rear doors where your garage is. Thankfully my employer owns this Sprinter That I drive and operate. so I Fully Understand the investment of time effort and resources you have into your home on wheels. I don't want to be an alarmist, but I feel it prudent to let you know at approximately 135K miles, The Mercedes Benz motor suffered a catastrophic failure where the engine seized while I was driving down the highway. You need to know that theory given to me by our repair center said that Carbon buildup in the intake manifold can grow substantially over the course of use, and a large piece of carbon has been known in these engines to break off and get sucked into a cylinder and seize the engine. Our Sprinter has been a paperweight for nearly a year, and full rebuild and replacement of the engine will be in the $12K range. I would highly recommend that you have the intake manifold removed and decarboned before your engine suffers "Black Death" like ours.

I have heard about the "black death" that sounds horrible. I will look into it right away! Thanks for the suggestion!

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the not-built-in-cooktop concept. I live in a regular house and when it came time to install a cooktop in my kitchen I simply declined. I have a single burner butane camp stove, an instant pot, an electric griddle, a Panini iron, a waffle iron, and, oh yeah, an induction cooktop. I never quite understood why van dwellers and rvers wanted those silly little stationary two or three burner cooktops with the lift-up glass lid. You’ve adopted a lifestyle of freedom so why would you anchor yourself to a single location for cooking? One more thing, someday you’ll be really super glad you have that porta potty. Better to have and not need than to need to not have. Not to mention, you can hide your rubies, diamonds and gold dubloons in it. 😂

Hi Ty. I bought a 2019 Ford Transit last August 2019. I recently purchased 4 Battle born batteries, 5 170w solar panels and a max air fan. I am buying a 3000w victron inverter along with the necessary extras. I need the solar to cook, sew, heat and power my home on wheels. I have a standby generator. I want my home to have the same warm glow. My transit is similar to your sprinter. It is a cargo van with a window in the door. Who or where built the cabinetry in your beautiful home?
@utooberblooper5 жыл бұрын
the "cabinetry" as you can it can be easily done by you (do not pay anyone to do this,it isnt worth it)after very little practice. this is not professional by any measure and i did the same thing to a van when i was 19 years old with no former knowledge of how to do it.have confidence in your self and watch some videos of van interior builds and copy ideas you like. you need a jigsaw($20) a drill/screw gun($20) a tape measure ($2) a hammer and screw drivers ($20) and make sketches or drawings of your space and come up with a plan and start building.

I built all the cabinets myself. I must admit I didn't know what I was doing when I started so I'm sure you can work something out! Good luck! I'll try to make more videos!

Very nice van setup. Esp. the solar power. Greetings from sunny Jamaica.

Great idea you came up with on how to hide the solar panels. This has been my dream for a while now. As soon as I get my car payed off, I’m gonna start looking at affordable high top vans. Gotta jump in sometime

I agree with the guy below, this is definitely one of the best. I say only one of the best because the shower is outside. I love outside showers, except in the winter. Have you installed an inside shower yet. I like the way you think, so tell me about the inside shower if you've built one.

I haven't built one in this van but I'm considering selling it and building another with an inside shower. Winter showers are horrible haha! Worst one was below 30 degrees and super windy. The heater kept blowing out so I took a sub zero cold shower... wasn't an issue when the gyms were open before covid...
