Thanks for the tip on bringing cash rather than accepting US credit cards. Hope to visit Vancouver again after cancelling out in 2019 due to Covid and shutting down the borders between Canada & US.d

@@Jyw008 definitely bring cash if your coming from the states. US bank cards are hit and miss for tap to pay. Thanks for the comment! Let us know what you think in another comment. Aside from the congee, the dumplings (not wonton, but massive shrimp dumpling) with BBQ duck noodle in soup are incredible here. Thanks for the comment, and looking forward to hearing about your visit!

Lovely comment! Thanks so much for watching and chiming in. We have a deep love for Chinese cuisine, having both grown up with all the great options in Vancouver. This place is definitely one of our favourites! 🙏

Nice info on the congee background being poverty/peasant food. It makes me think that's it's a common thing across cultures where you see people in the past turn "low quality" ingredients to good food. You look at com tam(broken rice) in Vietnam where the broken rice granules where the leftovers from harvest. The poor people managed to turn that into a delicacy and signature Vietnamese dish. Then there's red beans and rice in the historical southern part of United States. Haggis in Scotland. It's a reflection of poor people's creative adaptation to make the best of what they have in life.

Thanks for the comment! I think that’s accurate - fried rice, pot pie, various stews are all examples of using whatever you have and taking a small amount if meat and extending it to feed the whole family. And what you eat regularly with your family becomes ‘comfort’ food.

We used to eat these Chinese doughnuts with coffee in the morning besides on congee.

As for healthy advice, don't eat too salty. I am also a congee lover and I love to eat with white pepper powder and chinese donut😊

@@tedchan3927 yesssss!!!! We love the Chinese donut, and white pepper makes it. The chilli oil here is amazing too. Some of the best we’ve ever had. Thanks for the comment! 🙏

When did Congee Noodle House reopen after the sink hole incident?
@Global_Feast3 ай бұрын
Great question! It was closed for 3 years after it became structurally unsound due to a sinkhole caused by neighboring construction. It reopened in May of 2023. Thank goodness! 🤤 Thanks for commenting. 🙏

I found out recently when paying with a card, some restaurants are charging a small fee (2-3%) I guess to cover their cost. I understand the cost of running a business is high but that credit card fee should be absorbed in the cost of running a business don’t you think?
@Global_Feast4 ай бұрын
It’s a frustration for paying customers for sure, and can be argued both ways. Profit margins in restaurants are so thin that 2-3% really adds up and can make a significant dent in the bottom line. For customers, it can be argued that it’s a “convenience tax”. I guess the lesson here is “go to the atm first”. Unless of course, your bank charges a “convenience fee” too! 😉. Thanks for your comment, and keep em coming!

Didn't know they have a rear entrance.. now I know. Is the congee comparble to Congee Noodle King on Kingsway and Joyce?
@Global_Feast5 ай бұрын
Haven’t tried that one yet, but we will! They would have to be pretty damn amazing to be better. Thanks for the tip!

Haven't eaten at Congee Noodle King much (only twice, I think), but I think they're both very comparable.
@weareallgodschildrenlovefr95562 ай бұрын
They are related so the food should be similar but parking is horrible on Kingsway. Congee Delight in Tinseltown and East One in East Vancouver are also related. 😋😋😋

We drove past it a couple of days ago on our way to Crystal Mall. We’re going to definitely check it out! 🙏

Congee Noodle House is better than Congee Noodle King or Congee Delight. Congee Noodle House has way more menu options.

Thanks for the comment! We have a lot of plans for more cheap eats, even if it’s not so cheap in Vancouver. Have a great time in Bali and don’t forget to check out the beach breakfast in Sanur!
