Me eating a bowl of mixed salad and watching that fried egg and pork dish in the video , kind of punishment . You planned already your next travel ( Europe and Africa ) , I hope you will visit Asia again someday . Recently I have eaten indian rice with raisins and fragrant spices that the indians have the secret . So good .
@Global_FeastАй бұрын
Punishment was not intended! 😂 This was an extraordinarily good Thai place though. We absolutely loved our time living in Da Nang and India, but we're not sure when we are going to be able to come back that way. Italy, Greece, and South America beckon... It's a big world out there!

You may want to visit Chad Thai on Hastings just two stops past Boundary in Burnaby. It’s been around for more than 10 years and offers tremendous street food. The owner Jean has won numerous awards. Try the chicken Laap and Yum Woon Sen. they also offer unique desserts that rotate every week or so. Appetizer, soup and main will set you back a whopping $18 at lunch. Big flavours and warm service courtesy of Jean.

Thanks for that. You’re not the first to recommend that place. We’ll do our best to have a look. Our list is getting sooooooo long!

@ Oh my god Rob…I only just now saw that your band is Strange Advance. I had your records back in the day. What a nice thing to discover. You also had a very good video with my old acquaintance Barry at R&B. I used to sell his beer. Lovely man. I believe he sold the brewery to Howe Sound Brewing but it’s still run under the old name.
@Global_FeastАй бұрын
@ You’re correct on both counts! Strange Advance is alive and well, and just did shows in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto in September. Lots of fun, and there’s going to be a Vancouver date in the spring, and most likely Victoria too. Barry is indeed a great guy an old friend from high school. A true pioneer in the Vancouver beer scene! He just retired last month. Thanks for the nice comment!

Hi there, I wait for your vlog everyday. For me the best Thai restaurant is Thida 1193 Davie st. I only like pad thai and i think their pad thai is really good. I am not connected with the restaurant in anyways, just my personal preference. Thanks. Enjoy

Thanks for a truly informative vid. I live in a Canadian city that only has the kind of typical North American Thai restaurants that cater to the Chicken Pad Thai demographic. Every Thai restaurant here has the same predictable menu. I don't judge them - they are immigrants running a business to survive and I would do the same if I was in their shoes. Anyway, can you please, if possible, do a return video to this place (or a few more!) and try other items on the menu? This place looks fantastic.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice comment. Thai food is a little like pizza. Even when it’s not as amazing as this place… it’s still pretty good! We’ll take an average red curry and rice over a fast food burger any day. We try and put out at least a video a week, and with so many amazing places in Vancouver to explore, it will be a while before we get back to this one. You’re right though, we can’t wait to taste some of the other great things on the menu!
@coltranecave5503Ай бұрын
@@Global_Feast I agree re average Thai cuisine in North America. Even if their menu is not very exciting, if the execution is good then it's totally worth it over fast food options. I should've qualified my original comment by adding that we have a few excellent Thai places where we live and some menu items are amazing even if they are the same offerings in name that you see everywhere. Also, totally understandable re Unchai as there are so many Van City options you two need to explore and with good reason - your choices over there are almost limitless.

@@Global_Feast I live in Winnipeg and have relatives in Van who I visit occasionally. I like your channel b/c here in WPG I have a group of food nerd friends with whom I hit restaurants with. We have a burgeoning regional Chinese restaurant scene here - trust me, it's very exciting when you think about what our restaurant scene was like in the 80s. I am sure you can imagine what our Asian "offerings" were like back then - let's just say one better have liked his or her chicken balls, chicken fried rice and that gloopy, disturbingly bright red-orange sweet and sour sauce that is sweeter than a Slurpee and about as sour as one. So we're always hitting up places that feature authentic, legit Sichuan, Shaanxi, Hunan, and Uyghur cuisine and just diving in. We even have a legit Lanzhou beef noodle place.

With a name like Coltranecave, you sound like a jazz nerd as well. We’re putting two and two together and guessing that you’re a musician. Spicy food and jazz seem to go together well! A friend of ours (Jeff Neil from Streetheart) lives in Winnipeg again after many years in Vancouver. Nice to know that there are ever improving food options out there beyond the thick red sauce!

I tried out boudin when i tried out iron chef when he was at lumier on 4th avenue i w as really surprised it was actually really delicous that was like 22 years ago never hsd blood anything since

Thanks for sharing. We got really used to eating blood cake in Vietnam, and the flavour is really in your face! The Vietnamese blood sausage is a much more subtle flavour, and it’s very good. The flavour in this soup was very subtle, it just added an overall richness. We’re going to Portugal in a couple of months, so we’ll be sure to try the blood sausage there! Good for you for trying new things though. Hats off! 🧢
