This is the first video from our Canadian Food series! We are in Vancouver city and in this episode we are taking you to Granville Island. Granville Island was an industrial manufacturing area and is now an awesome to shop, take photos and eat delicious, local street foods! First, we take the Aquabus ferry to get to the island ($6.25 CAD / $4.73 USD)!
Our first stop was Longliner Seafoods, which is a third generation institution on Granville Island. They specialize in Pacific salmon, and we ordered their Maple candied salmon ($8.32 CAD / $6.30 USD) and their double smoked Sockeye salmon ($10.96 CAD / $8.30 USD).
Next, next we visit Stock Market, where they make fresh soups and stocks everyday. We ordered their soups of the day: Clam Chowder ($6.50 CAD / $4.92 USD) and Vegetable Bisque ($5.25 CAD / $3.98 USD). Each soup came with a piece of focaccia.
It was time for dessert, so we joined the line at Lee’s Donuts. Lee’s Donuts is one of the most popular shops on Granville Island. We ordered a 1/2 dozen donuts ($13.25 CAD / $10.03 USD) and ordered some of the more famous flavours, like Bavarian cream. All donuts are handmade in the shop and super fresh.
To end the day of eating, we stopped by Granville Island Brewing. This brewery specializes in small batch beers, and we tried their IPA and lager small batch ($7.75 CAD / $5.87). The building had a great atmosphere with an industrial setting.
Information:
1 - Hornby Street Ferry (to Granville Island)
2 - Longliner Seafoods
3 - Stock Market
4 - Lee’s Donuts
5 - Granville Island Brewing

Slightly older Canadian here that's been watching for about 6 months now. This presentation, or 'schtick', whatever you want to call it is absolute tripe. I'm your countryman and a BC guy too. I'm embarrassed for you two at this point. Not to be a hater, but this ain't it guys. All the access you have and you want to pull this shit when you get home? Was excited when you came back. More excited for you to leave again, to be honest. Best wishes.

Please come to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, you guys! My 3 and 5 year old daughters absolutely adore watching your channel, and have learned so much about the world vicariously just watching you eat! Like, they literally play “Luke and Sabrina” like they play Frozen! They’re your biggest fans. And I even have a couple food suggestions here: Maple Leaf Bakery for donuts (they’re amazing and a local legend), and Snow Hut for soft serve, specifically their cherry sundae. It’s the best soft serve we’ve ever had and we try it everywhere! Jog up to Regina for sushi at Michi for supper... I dunno... perfect day in Southern Sask? Maybe! Hey, we can dream, here in fly over country... haha Love you guys! Stay safe! Thanks for giving us some outside world to look forward to during this wretched pandemic.

Luke and Sabrina, thanks for sharing some of the food highlights on your home turf 👍! Vancouver is one of my favorite cities in North America, because of the breathtaking natural backdrop and the diversity of cuisines available for food lovers. The market on Granville Island is definitely one of my favorite places to visit. Another one is Lonsdale Quay Market in North Vancouver. 4:04 I, too, prefer cold-smoked to hot-smoked fish because its meat is much more moist and tender. I wonder why food purveyors don't sell cold-smoked Dungeness crabs, king crabs, and geoducks 😊. I would very much like to see the following cuisines in Vancouver: Chinese (different regional cuisines, including dim sum; not fast food); Indian; Japanese; Italian (not pizzas); French; English (pub style); etc. Santé et bon appétit 🥂!

So shocking to see how quiet it is at Granville Island. It is one of my favorite haunts being a local. But I have not been there since March due to Covid. It is interesting to see someone elses food choices. I have my faves - salmon of course. It would have been great for you to snap quick takes of all the wonderful artisans work -- guess it isn't your interest. I love our city. I enjoyed a trip to the East Coast last summer. Now you can only travel to Cyprus,Latvia,Finland,Liechtenstein,but lets hope situation would improve.Maple syrup have made Canada famous in the world.Amazing type of salmon,i have lived in Norway for last 7 years,but i never seen in Norway:Salmon with maple syrup.

@marijusofficial
@marijusofficial 4 жыл бұрын
@@LukeMartinYes indeed thanks for reply,i can only find maple glazed Norwegian salmon.Canada and Norway are salmon sought countries,however Atlantic salmon is the most common variety of salmon.Pink variety is more in Russia and the USA,Chum salmon is more endangered.Coho salmon is common in Denmark,Norway.However,sockeye salmon is interesting since their diet are about zooplanktons.Chinook salmon has milder taste,while King salmon are appeal more for omega 3 and its wide taste than Chinook salmon.I have ever worked in hotel with salmon, one time there was one box like 20 kg worth of 20000 Norwegian krones,so luckily i could hold it tightly,since i needed to transfer it to much colder room.Salmon sandwiches with lemon and pinch of salt are amazing treat. Norway’s ocean-farmed Atlantic salmon comes from the same origins as wild. In the 1970s, salmon was collected from 40 Norwegian rivers to breed in ocean farms. Norwegian farmed salmon has the same genetics as the wild salmon, but its feed allows it to grow faster, mature later and resist disease better.Not sure of sockeye salmon,it would be interesting to try.One thing for sure i have ever bought maple syrup from Canada it is such treat,but i used for pancakes down there.I am finding recipes for how to make maple glazed Norwegian salmon,but i think it is just people creation down there than the real one same like you tried in Granville island.

Sockeye is not the most prized. It has the strongest flavor which most people don't prefer.

There is a schnitzel place just a few booths down that isle that is wonderful . We stop at Longliners, the schitzel place and Lees Donuts each time we go there.

Thank you Margaret! I wish we could do more videos in Canada, but our first stop was supposed to be Montreal and due to COVID-19, many of the shops we wanted to see were closed, no eat in or very, very sad due to no customers. We didn't feel it was appropriate to film a series there. After the virus, we would love to visit more places including Montreal and Toronto. Stay tuned though, we are staying in Canada :)
