Flex and Amanda, the donuts, calm chowder , chicken soup, salmon and cookie looks so yummy. Glad you folks are experiencing the different kinds of food Canada has to offer. My big mistake was not going to Canada when i was stationed at Fort Lewis. My passport would of been my military I.D. But been to pikes alot and ate alot of seafood. Thank you so much for sharing and taking me along on your beautiful adventure.

Amanda and Felix, I live an hour and half away from the border. I have visited Granville Island multiple times since the late 80's. I have tried everything there. The places you have visited are some of my favorites. Donuts are donuts, Lee's donuts are exceptional. Felix, your review of the yeast honey doughnut is spot on. My favorite is the french onion soup with the pastry top. Watch out for the seagulls. I lost plenty of good food while eating outside the market. I am happy you enjoyed your experience in Vancouver.

Nice to come home and get an alert for Amanda &Felix eats! Those donuts look epic. You guys were saying that the donuts you tried at home were oily, the reason is usually the place has over fried the donut and not drip dried for a longer time. Also the type of oil each place uses places a huge factor on how much it stays in the donut. That clam chowder pot pie looked amazing. Salmon and maple syrup that just feels not right lol. FYI Amanda for your acid reflux get some aloe plants not the small ones the big ones and peel the skin. Cut in halves blend it with a cup of water and drink it twice morning and night and you will not have any reflux.

So, So Happy You Got to Granville Island, my favorite Foodie Adventure there!!! Go back in the summer too. You can go eat the best Persian, Indian and other ethnic foods including the best dim sum anywhere. It is a whole different and even more enriching food your in August. That is a great time for Portland and a day trip on the Ferry to Or has Island out of Anacortes, WA too. Vancouver, like the Puget Sound Islands, Whidbey Island are in that Banana Belt so get a third less rain than Seattle. The reason the baked goods are naturally yummy in BC is because the Canadians do not allow preservatives in them. The breads even from the grocery stores start to lose appeal after the third day. South of the border bread lasts two weeks from the chemicals just in the flours. Yum, Yum. There use to be and perhaps still is a great culinary school on Granville that offered incredible multi course lunches for $20. So happy you got to there. Those donuts are epic. Nothing like sitting outside in the summer behind the Market on the channel watching the boats floating by. Smart to do desert first. The filling in those donuts are not out of 5 gallon bucks from a restaurant supply. It is all from scratch and they really know how to fry the different doughs.

Nice video! There’s a kiosk in the public market called The Lemon Square. Lemons squares are the only thing they sell and they are incredible! The crust has coconut in it. It’s sweet and tart but the flavour is so well balanced, unlike most lemon squares out there. Too bad you guys missed it. Another shop that’s super popular in the market is Oyama Sausages & Co. They sell many different cured meats, pâté, and sausages all made in house. It’s a five-generation family-based charcuterie business originally from Quebec. At Christmas, the lineup can be over 100 people long any given time. All their cold cuts are excellent but a type of ham called Jambon dos Aimes-man! It will ruin all the hams for you, guaranteed! Sometimes we don’t even bother putting it on bread or anything we just eat it straight up. If you guys ever come back to Vancouver you’ve got to try it.

You two not only try out food for us, living vicariously, but you touch our memories. The last time I was there, 2016, our son had suffered the third of three back-to-back asthma attacks from a previously undiagnosed condition triggered by his first and only FluMist (I had no idea he had underlying asthma). We wanted to get away as a family, not knowing when he would breathe his last but hoping he would adapt to new controller meds. Unfortunately, the Vancouver trip didn't ease our anxiety. I'd also struggled with stress-induced rash all over my face, neck, and hands; I looked like a freak. I'm also super-picky, so when we arrived at Granville our last day, I was literally afraid to blow my wad on ordering something, only to covet something else and be too full. Finally, after casing the market six-seven times, my husband talked me into trying a bratwurst. The woman at the counter was so mean, she snapped at me to "Hurry up and order!" so - in tears - I turned to my husband to order for me. I felt like an abused child being bullied by a mean mom. Not everyone in Canada is nice. (The bratwurst was delicious though, so worth it.) Luckily, I have previous memories of Granville to draw on, where it was just me and my husband, basically newlyweds, wandering the stalls in the spring, picking up a beautiful artisan-made vase, and enjoying the chowder there. What I mean to say is you two gave both those trips a renewal, showing me it's ok to go with your gut and just try new things, even if I think it's not going to be as good as something else I see farther along the aisle. I should've eaten those donuts, but I thought they'd be basic like store-bought. I also should've tried the pastry-covered chowder - I stood in front of that vendor for what felt like hours. That's why I love watching your videos. You show us how to enjoy life and not stress about what we might miss. Because if we watch you both enjoy, based on your knowledge, experience, and natural affinity as true foodies, we'll never go wrong. Thank you for redeeming that last trip for this mom. PS. Our son James is doing great now. He no longer needs the asthma meds and is working construction (as a data manager) in Capitol Hill.
