The Good Hope Cannery skeleton crew are heading up to Rivers Inlet, BC to spend their summer living and working together. We usually get flown in, but this year we met Ted and Dwayne Walkus at the Thunderbird marina in Vancouver to boat up with them.
The ride up takes about 12 hours so we made plans to spend a night at Sonora resort to break up the trip. We got a tour of some of the very extensive property. It's such a cool place! The staff made us feel at home, especially the dogs that followed everyone around.
We also made a quick stop at Duncanby lodge once we were in Rivers Inlet. There was still a construction crew working on their new dining room. Im looking forward to seeing it when it's finished! We said hello to the winter watchman and the chef and got a hot coffee before finishing the trip up to Good Hope Cannery.
If you're interested in knowing more about the cannery you can check out the link to a video I made last year. • WELCOME TO GOOD HOPE ...
Thanks for joining us on our little adventure on the Eaglecraft from Vancouver to Rivers Inlet BC.

Unreal to stumble across your channel!! I spent 3 memorable seasons there, my first being in the dish pit for Bob and Judie under Salmon King Lodge, my second season I progressed to the dock and endured the change of ownership 😅, my third season I became the fish cutter and began guiding under the knowledge of some of the most amazing fisherman I have ever met... Tyler, Ted, Dwayne, Sneer, Salty Dog to name a few. Forever greatful for Tony's generosity and compassion....Gage you beauty!! great to see you on here too!! Have been cracking up at some of the memories that keep popping up 😂😂 so good! Thanks heaps for posting the videos.. You've done a great job. Tight lines, Kiwi (residing in Northland, New Zealand now days)

Too cool that you found this channel! It’s nice to hear from staff that used to work here and I always wondered how the transition went between owners. Ted and Dwayne are gems and I met Salty Dog on a project I was working on in Merritt a couple years ago. I’m so happy you’re enjoying my videos!! More to come soon. Thanks for watching and leaving this awesome comment!!

I found you on KZbin by accident and loved your content , I subscribed and have been a fan ever since . I’m a Gramma and not able to travel right now to far from my home so watching your travels really helps . I saw a video of you and Brent travelling through the Slocan Valley , I got excited as I’m here in Creston BC . It’s fun to watch you guys fishing , at work or in the Baha it’s entertaining and somehow very satisfying. I’m not a fisher but love to eat seafood 🍤, I also enjoy seeing what you cook up in the kitchen. I’m a foodie and love to cook so I really enjoy that part . The wilderness around there is spectacular , I’m glad you folks pack a gun though as it could be dangerous with the animals. ……I loved it when your Mum came to fill in so someone could take days off . Take care Jenny and enjoy your season at work !

@@jenny_adrift Thank you so much for responding! So you are working again this year? When do you normally go up? I can't believe you took a boat up, that's a long way by water but beautiful scenery if you hit the weather right. We used to make that trip from the mouth of the Fraser River to Rivers inlet in 3 days but obviously much slower. Best of luck to you, Cheers...

A great video to sit back, relax and have a coffee. As I was watching and listening to the great music, I had a thought that it would be great to just hear the ocean and the waves, then just before the 17 min mark, you did just that. Thank you!! Yes, please make more.

I'm loving your videos. I usually spend my summers camping, and fishing just out of port Mcneill, at Alderbay. I've often thought of taking my 24' boat from Port Hardy over to Rivers Inlet area for some fishing there and in the Hakai pass area too. Just a little nervous I guess about traveling there alone ,and getting Refueled with Diesel once I'm there ? keep up the great videos. I'm sub'd now.

Very nice video - anything with a coast or the sea is interesting. I work as a mariner on Canada's East Coast & Great Lakes. We have many cadets from BCIT doing their sea-time with various Great Lakes marine shipping companies - they are 'polite to a fault'! A query, and perhaps one of your viewers might be able to offer advice: a lot of mates, especially older mates on the lakes are looking for 'a change' and and would perhaps consider working the BC coast, however, most vacancies for master or mate positions request 'BC coast experience'. My question is - how would one obtain such? As an AB/deckhand or as a junior mate? Understandably, the position of master, one must have 'BC coast experience'. On the Great Lakes and rivers, usually it is the master and/or 1st Mate that trains-up the junior mates (2nd & 3rd) in river pilotage. A lot of us have pilotage experience on the many rivers of the Great Lakes / St. Lawrence River system, so the 'rudiments' are there. Any advice regarding such would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your kind assistance!

I have started a video series called Lodge Life that you can check out. Only one episode so far but I will be giving you an idea of the staff life here. Also we do have a side by side and a couple quads but there isn’t far to go up here. There are no roads and we can’t access any logging roads from here. Just the generator and incinerator. But I’ll show you all of that soon!
