Thanks for sharing your lovely orchids..I noticed that they are all potted in plastic pots ..is this because you need to retain moisture for them?. Can clay pots be Used??

Hi Patricia, thank you so much for tuning in☺. The vandas were potted in plastic pots (theres a video showing how i potted them) because those pots are quite inexpensive and also, I was going to subsequently place them in a raised bed. However, if i were not putting them in the bed, then i would have used clay pots as the container for potting. I could have also removed them from the plastic pots before placing them in the bed but i did not want to disturb their roots. There's also a video showing how i make a vanda bed so you could check that out as well. Thanks again for watching, cheers and happy growing.

I got a vanda in January 2021, it was blooming. I noticed in recent weeks that some of the leaves looks like when something is rusting. I have not seen any new spike. I am thinking to pot it, for better watering management as mostly I only spray the roots. What can I do for the leaves?

Hi Rosemarie, thank you so much for tuning in. If you have been applying pesticides regularly, then the rust on some of the leaves may be caused from a sun tan if your orchid is exposed to extreme sunlight. I have noticed that with a few of my vandas and also that not all the leaves are affected/infected. Perhaps you need to apply a balanced fertilizer: 20-20-20 in order to stimulate blooms. You also stated that you are considering potting the vanda. How have you been growing it, mounted?

@@preciousbloomsja good morning and thanks for responding. I feel like it does not get enough sun as it is just hanging in the little basket it came in under an horning at the back. When I am at home and I remember, I put it our for a few minutes in the sun.

Something ago I saw that you put a small sack of slow release, I have done that months ago. Plus I spray with Calmac.

@@rosemariebrown3544 Hi Rosemarie, now that you have mentioned where you grow your vanda, i do believe that you should relocate it to another area where it can be exposed to some more sunlight and try to water at least every other day.

Precious do you purchase your Vandas locally? It must take a few years to have the Vandas grow tall?

Hi there Epe, thanks as always for tuning in. I do appreciate your support. Feels as if i am having a natural conversation with you, lol. The vandas in my collection are imported to Jamaica and then I make my purchase from several vendors. Yes, they do take a few years to develop to over 6ft in height, sometimes even 10 ft. But with the required amount of sunlight and fertilization and of course watering and fungal treatment, they often times mature quite quickly. Most of my bandas are top cuts which means they would have been about 15ft in height, had i allowed them to reach that height. Thanks again for watching, God bless you🙏🙏

When your vanda have brown tips but blooming? What causing the brown tip?

Hi Denise, I can’t recall that I have experienced such an issue but research shows that brown tips on your vanda can be caused from several reasons such as bacterial, fungal or cultural issues. If it is that you have been applying pesticide routinely then it might be a cultural issue. You might want to look at how often you water, as well as the time of day you apply the water to your vandas.
