The channel has grown to a point where a video editor would be helpful. The issue I have is I would need someone who understands what I'm talking about so they can place the proper b-roll in the right places. If I have to tell them every spot to place b-roll I would be better off doing it myself. Another option may be for me to do a rough edit like you described and placing my b-roll and have them add motion graphics, adjusting sound and adding text. Something to think about... Thanks for the video Vanessa.

Wow this is amazing. Quick question - if you have multiple b-roll shots of the same thing (ex walking through an airport), what’s the most efficient way to make the editor know which one goes where? Do you name all the files so they know what it is without having to watch every video in your b-roll folder? I just hired an editor and am still working out the kinks, but what I’ve been doing is just making comments directly on my script in google docs with links to the b-roll in google photos or drive. Also another question - what do you recommend if you use a lot of old b-roll footage in your videos. Is there a good why to give access to a huge library to your editor so they can find the shots themselves? Like a shared Google photos album or something?
@VanessaLau4 күн бұрын
1. Multiple Broll Shots of Same Thing: Make you'd make a sub folder called "Walking Through Airport" and put all those variations inside for your video editor to choose from? 2. Naming Files: Yes, I've learned the hard way that it's important to name the files so it's easier not just for your editor but for you too if you ever need to access broll. 3. Giving Huge Library: Yes, if I notice that I keep needing a specific type of broll, I'll drop it in the B-Roll library under the appropriate category. For example, I noticed in the past I'd always need screenshots of my revenue, or videos of me going through challenges, or videos of me working. So those I would put into the library so it's easy for everyone to go back on and I don't have to refilm or retake the screenshots!
@tylerejackson4 күн бұрын
@@VanessaLau thank you for this! Do you have a list of suggested b-roll shots?
@julianmaylett4 күн бұрын
Adding the comments with the links is a good way to work fast and efficiently! What you can do is add "tags" to your file names so for the walking BROLL you were talking about : "walking, airport, steps, shoes.mp4" (for example) - hope that helps!
@VanessaLau4 күн бұрын
@@tylerejackson Some I use most often: 1. Celebration, dancing, happy 2. Travelling / persona life moments 3. Working Shots: Filming, Writing, Editing, Meetings/Calls etc 4. Exercising Shots 5. Screen recordings of any youtube growth/revenue milestones etc 6. Failure/Losses (Usually footage where I'm down, crying, etc Broll shots would be unique to your niche for the most part, but these are ones I tend to tap into often.

Hello! Video editor here. This was a very professional presentation, and I can tell from Vanessa's insights that she’s speaking from real-life experience. To the audience: A good editor wants to work with a good client. Clear communication and a positive working relationship are crucial. If you’d like your editor to enhance your video creatively, make that expectation clear. Otherwise, editors might hesitate to explore their creativity out of concern that it may not align with your vision, which could result in dissatisfaction or even dismissal. Remember, editors are under pressure to quickly figure out what you like and don’t like. If you don’t communicate your preferences or creative boundaries, it’s harder for us to deliver our best work. I’ve even heard of editors being let go because their own videos were edited 'better' than their client’s - but that doesn’t necessarily mean the editor was slacking. Often, it’s about trying to deliver exactly what the client requested, even if that means holding back on creativity. Thank you for the video, Vanessa!

I have one more comment. Some people may follow the trend of specifying a particular editing software, like Adobe Premiere Pro, in their job postings. However, if you’re going to require a specific software, it should be for a valid reason-not just because it’s popular or considered 'professional.' For example, you might need a particular software if: You require the project files for collaboration. You need a specific effect or transition unique to that software. The final video format is only deliverable through that software. But if your main goal is simply to upload the finished video to KZbin, many different editing programs can get the job done. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. For instance, specifying Premiere Pro might lead to a 10-hour editing process, whereas an editor using software like Edius could complete the same video in 8 hours. Ultimately, focus on the end result, not the tool used to achieve it.

Are NDA's or other contracts really/effectively enforceable if you are using someone offshore like in the Philippines?
@VanessaLau4 күн бұрын
Enforcable yes, though it will take a lot of time and money to enforce due to the nature of the person being overseas. However, having it in place usually is enough to prevent most people from doing the "bad things". Better to have it than not IMO, especially if you have a brand or business to protect.
@richellemiguel27864 күн бұрын
