Vangelis - Himalaya

The Himalaya Range or Himalayas for short (English pronunciation: /hɪˈmɑːləjə/ or /ˌhɪməˈleɪ.ə/; Sanskrit: हिमालय), Tamil:emaya malai, meaning "abode of snow",[1] is a mountain range in Asia, separating the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. By extension, it is also the name of a massive mountain system that includes the Karakoram, the Hindu Kush, and other, lesser, ranges that extend out from the Pamir Knot.
The Himalayan mountain system is the planet's highest and home to the world's highest peaks, the Eight-thousanders, which include Mount Everest and K2. To comprehend the enormous scale of this mountain range consider that Aconcagua, in the Andes, at 6,962 m (22,841 ft), is the highest peak outside Asia, whereas the Himalayan system includes over 100 mountains exceeding 7,200 metres (23,622 ft).[2]
The Himalayan system, which includes outlying subranges, stretches across six countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. Some of the world's major rivers, the Indus, the Ganges, the Brahmaputra, and the Yangtze, rise in the Himalayas, and their combined drainage basin is home to some 1.3 billion people. The Himalayas have profoundly shaped the cultures of South Asia; many Himalayan peaks are sacred in both Hinduism and Buddhism.
The main Himalaya range runs, west to east, from the Indus river valley to the Brahmaputra river valley, forming an arc 2,400 km (1,490 mi) long, which varies in width from 400 km in the western Kashmir-Xinjiang region to 150 km in the eastern Tibet-Arunachal Pradesh region. The range consists of three coextensive sub-ranges, with the northern-most, and highest, known as the Great or Inner Himalayas.
O Himalaia (ou Himalaias) é a mais alta cadeia montanhosa do mundo, localizada entre a planície indo-gangética, ao sul, e o planalto tibetano, ao norte. O nome Himalaia vem do sânscrito (pronunciada com um longo primeiro 'a' e um curto último 'a', como 'himaal-ya', em vez de 'him-u-l-yu' ou 'him-u-layaa') e significa morada da neve. Os Himalaias espalham-se, de oeste para leste, do vale do rio Indo ao vale do rio Bramaputra, formando um arco de cerca de 2.500 km de extensão e com uma largura variando de 400 km no oeste, na região da Caxemira-Tibete, a 150 km no leste, na região do Tibete-Arunachal Pradesh.

Aproximadamente 1.000 milhões de pessoas vivem nas bacias hidrográficas de rios que nascem no Himalaia. Entretanto, a densidade populacional dos Himalaias é muito baixa e poucos são os centros populacionais, sobretudo na vertente meridional. O Himalaia influencia também fortemente o clima, a vegetação e a distribuição dos animais.
A cadeia Himalaia consiste de três cadeias paralelas, que do sul para o norte, são o sub-Himalaia, os Pequenos Himalaias e os Grandes Himalaias. As montanhas começaram a se formar por dobras há 40 milhões de anos atrás, quando o subcontinente indiano se projetou em direção ao norte contra a principal massa terrestre asiática.

This is an incredible video & it meshes perfectly with the music, which in & of itself is fantastic enough but is doubly enhanced with these visuals!! Also like the info given about these mountains by the film makers. I have been to the top of Haleakala (10,023 foot summit) in Hawaii and it was like sitting on top of the world...no, it was more like being off this planet entirely...totally unbelievable AND unforgettable!! Great Vangelis! Magnificent Himalaya! And brave cranes (and geese) that fly above. They've been doing it for millions years, before the Himalaya grew up this high - I heared somewhere. Nobody told them that there's another and easier route to get to India. Sometimes they do many trials before they successfully cross all those peaks - the stratospherical birds...

The first time I heard that tune it was on the PBS series, "Cosmos." The LP, "The Music of Cosmos" had a few synthesizer tunes, classical and a few other things featured in the series. When I got "China" by Vangelis, that's when I found out that the name of the tune is "Himalaya."

I think there's a lot to be explained by the music industry. They have this crazy idea that if something sounds "Old" or "out of date" & not new they immediately label it poor. There's still people making tracks like this but just because they don't resemble the constantly loud kick snare stuff of today, they brand it "dead". It's no wonder music has become stale now if they simply label all the previously explored sounds & techniques "out of bounds". This is good music. And a decent length too!
