Piano in a Living Room

12 жыл бұрын

Vangelis created Memories Of Green in 1980 for his album See You Later, but it's not as famous as the Blade Runner soundtrack from 1982 in which the track was included too.
Check out my other Vangelis covers! • Vangelis Live Covers
Trying to replicate it on my Nord Stage 2, using a sampled Bösendorfer piano with some flanger ("drunk piano"), virtual analog synthesizers controlled with an expression pedal, and a generous amount of reverb.
From www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_...
One of the best scenes in the film occurs early on, when Deckard (Harrison Ford) has an awkward meeting with Rachael (Sean Young). The music heard in this scene fits it perfectly, yet was taken from an earlier Vangelis album. The piece, 'Memories Of Green', is distinctive for its melancholy, 'drunk' piano sound. Raphael Preston: "We used an Electroharmonix Electric Mistress flanger pedal on 'Memories Of Green', putting a Steinway Grand through it. The electronic noises on there came from one of the first hand-held electronic games, a Japanese thing called the Bambino UFO Master Blaster Station! I had to play it for the length of the piece without losing the game, because when you lost, it made the most horrible noise."
I've tried to replace the electronic game bleeps with Vangelis' signature dark Blade Runner pad.

My favorite. Thank you! In 1984 I saw Bladerunner at a repertory theatre in the Beaches. It changed me. Until that night I thought I was unlovable and so different from everyone else. That I had no place in the world. Then I saw Rachel and it was instant affinity. And then he loves her. Her. And I knew then I would find love too. Honestly, that’s what this film did for me. This music is precious to me beyond words. Thank you for making it beautiful and deep and sonorous and saturating.

Man, it is great to hear someone who actually gets this piece. That its about fragility, humanity, becoming human, irregularity, frail and drunken sporadic playing interspersed with sudden waterfalls of eloquence. Well done

Really great version. Watched Blade Runner again for the God knows how many-th time the other night haha. I love this scene and the music compliments the emotion of it so well. The lazy chords evoke such feelings of semi palpable nostalgia and memories from childhood or adolescence that are only remembered in shimmery fragments, like looking through a window in the pouring rain at something you can't quite make out. I feel Rachel's pain and confusion... I'm definitely into the subtle synth you've got going on. Would sound absolutely perfect if you were able to program the slightly out of tune piano in Vangelis' score. Beautifully played!

I listened to the guy with the shiny black piano first but wasn't quite satisfied it was true to the nostalgic tender emotions being evoked within this scene in Bladerunner. I couldn't wait to switch to your video & as soon as I heard this version it was exactly like the poignant scene I love in Bladerunner. I would not suggest anyone refer to sensitive intuitive piano playing as 'lazy' because that implies an inherently negative connotation.

Really nice. Your variations/interpretations (speed, punctuation etc) are really nice. I started on this myself about six weeks ago and just now get through the whole thing. I am not a great reader (more of an ear fellow) and it has taken me a while to figure out the best fingering... how much the right hand should jump ship to help out the left... probably another month before I can get the left hand up to a decent speed at bars 45 - 64. You rip through them really nicely. I don't know if I can ever get fast enough for 65 - 68 😨.... and there again... you have it nailed perfectly. I have been watching "anotherschmoe",s KZbin version filmed from the right and it is nice yours is from the left. Once again... really nice work. I hope I can get close some day. Cheers, Tim.

Yes, except for the faster part at 3:25. And it's a forgiving track, the flanger effect is sometimes called "drunk piano", in other words you are kind of welcome not to follow a beat, hesitations can become beautiful, so on...
