Vani ji is fluent in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English and she is comfortable in Malayalam and Kannada too. But Susheela amma can speak only Telugu and Tamil. In other language interviews like Kannada and Malayalam channels she speaks only in Tamil. Learning a new language is a passion.

From late 50s till the arrival of Ilayaraj Suseelamma was No 1. Then the domination of S Janaki up to early 90s. After that Chitra,:'s domination tll 2010.

That is because when mindless QUANTITY takes its place, there is NOTHING left for QUALITY! Today's mu-SICK directors can NEVER composer like Maestro Ilayaraja or his predecessors. PS, SJ, Chitra, VJ etc. were used more because their voices were perfect for playback singing, they were fast learners too, and the composers (especially like Ilayaraja who recorded 2 songs per day) did not have to wait for days those legendary singers to learn the song! SIMPLE.

Have you seen today's "singers" doing the recording? They sing phrase by phrase over several "takes" until they get it right, and the "compilers" then cut and paste the phrases to make it look like a "one complete song"! All of today's singers' rosy colors will fade away when they start singing Ilayaraja's or his predecessors' songs.

Truth was janakima was the most busy singer from 1977-1992, followed by chitra, vanima has a great voice and intellect but unromantic tone of hers made her first choice for classical numbers and semi classical numbers, whereas in janakima case she was the first and only one Choice of Raja, as she remains the only queen of expression

Answer for your question: That time chitra was not even introduced 😂 Janaki amma was a seasonal singer in Tamil and Telugu. MSV didn’t give her more chances. He used SJ rarely. Vani was very famous all over India, she won national award within 5 yrs of her entry into the field (2 yrs before SJ) Only after Ilayaraja’s entry, SJ became a busiest singer in Tamil. She won many national awards and state awards under his music. Vani, PS and SJ all 3 were number 1 singers in 70s, that is what she mentioned 😊
