Thanks for this wonderful review. I worked on (and poured my heart into) this movie for a couple of years and am so moved to see it's kaleidoscopic story-telling come into focus for so many people over the last couple of decades. Cameron, Tom, cinematographer John Toll and the entire crew worked so hard to make something that was both unhinged and grounded at the same time. It's a banger I'll be proud of being a part of for the rest of my life. Cheers! -Scott

Great review, and a touching sign-off, well said 👍. Both this and original have their merits. Cameron Crowe kills it with his music pop culture montages 🙌

@@badger.phipps You’re welcome. I mainly mean those in Vanilla Sky near the end, though he’s always got a great soundtrack👍

Vanilla sky is an absolute masterpiece that most of us either can't appreciate or don't understand enough to appreciate on the first viewing. Repeat viewings of this movie are mandatory. To give perspective, I was there when they were filming the movie and I was told that it was some kind of love story, so I was immediately disinterested as a 20-year-old man. When the movie came out, I gave it a chance as I was a huge fan of Jerry Maguire and I absolutely love that movie, despite being a teenager, the more mature themes of love and relationships actually really resonated with me. Surprisingly, I hated vanilla sky when I first saw it back in 2001. I expected a love story and possible tragedy, but then it became a mind-bending thriller that caught me off guard and a little too convoluted for me to understand what exactly was going on in the movie. That all changed with the 4K release, as I rewatched it again and was blown away. Not only how hard the story and ending hit me, but also because everything that was confusing the first time all made sense and resonated so deeply within me. Being older now, and having a lot more life experience with love, I understood everything David was experiencing and understood his attachment and why he even did what he did. Only the best movies can make you feel these types of emotions.

@@badger.phipps Thanks. Trust me, we're not alone. There's a bunch of people like us who didn't appreciate it the first time, and then it suddenly becomes a favorite after we rewatch and can comprehend what the film is trying to tell us.

I certainly appreciate you tackling this movie. Too many people tend to chase algorithm, or similarly to my younger siblings, refuse to watch anything that came out before they were born. There are more famous movies, better movies, but nothing new is ever said about them. Awesome review, as always. I never saw Open Your Eyes. But I did watch this and Eternal Sunshine in the same week by coincidence. They are two of my favorite movies in their... Genre? But they're also movies I can't watch too often because of how heavy they are. Incidentally, my girlfriend had me watch a netflix series called Dark. It is everything I ever wanted in a story that tackles its particular gimick, and if I can be a little pretentious, it is one of very few movies that I adore the "craftsmanship" of. The two writers behind it worked on the entire story before it was released. They even had a hand in selecting the music. There is no part of it that feels wasteful. I think you'd enjoy this 30ish episode series since you enjoyed this film.

Haha well thank you again for another candid comment, bud! :D Yeah, my favourite films are older ones and plenty of them made before i was born. Bloody youngsters haha And Watching Vanilla Sky and Eternal Sunshine in the same was must've been a TRIP! :P both awesome films though. I've never heard of "Dark" but I shall look it up in a moment. You've got me intrigued... EDIT: Dark looks amazing haha I've saved it to my list on Netflix so will check soon :P

@@bigrobnz lol thank you so much buddy! And I'd recommend waiting for the 4K blu-ray of The Pianist to be released. My normal blu-ray is a bit dull in quality IMO. Not even any special features. Hopefully the 4K will fix it. Thank you for being my 1000th subscriber. I am humbled ;)

Haven't seen it since it came out, I remember thinking it was ok, kinds got a harsh reception, Jason Lee & Kurt Russell are great supporting players. I think The harsh reception perhaps came from the fact that Crowes previous 2 movies (Jerry Maguire & Almost Famous) were absolute bangers.... and comparatively, Vanilla Sky ....wasn't . Good review buddy :)
