Vanilla locations have a fantastic ludic narration. Blizzard back then used to play around so much with ambient, vast expanses of terrain, slow-paced rise of tension and the overall sensation of adventure intertwined with this weird sense of urgency despite no obvious and direct narrative. More than that, they also didn't care much for players' time, so they placed various quests in an unintuitive way, thus rewarding players for their exploration efforts.

@Zack_Wester Жыл бұрын
Desolace I would say is pretty bad, there was no life anywhere in that zone, the quest was for the most part a pain and the leveling there was slow as heck whit many basic kill quest having you run across the map kill 10 targets then run back whit nothing to look at or a road to follow for a safer journey. Never leveled in The Barrens so can´t speak for that. Stranglethorn Vale the biggest problem was that for alliance player there was no Flight point (except in dusk wood or in Booty bay meaning horde had a somewhat easier time getting around for many of the quest especially for the Boty bay quests). there was also one or two other zones I was not a big fan of dont remmber what zones thought.
@joshtheryuk Жыл бұрын
@@Zack_Wester I actually enjoy the fact that some zones are... desolate. It makes the world feel less like a theme park and more... real. Weird huh? Azshara especially has got an amazing atmosphere. It truly feels like you're traversing a land forgotten by everyone. And makes the tragedy of the Night Elves much more poignant. Desolace is also cool the feeling you get when you reach Shadowprey Village, the only place that feels like it has any life. And at least Desolace has Maraudon. Holy s... that dungeon is so good.
@Zack_Wester Жыл бұрын
@@joshtheryuk i was a Alliance player I heard that for hords it was a lot better.
@Xylarxcode Жыл бұрын
@@Zack_Wester Desolace doesn't have a ton of things to do, but if you started there when you were supposed to (level 30-31) and you knew where to pick some of the additional quests, you could milk that zone for a level or 2, possibly even 3 and then occasionally come back there for the quests that were a bit beyond your reach every once in a while after that. Not amazing, but if you had skinning as a profession, there's a lot of beasts roaming around there and because it's so desolate, your chances of running into competition for the mobs you need to do your quests is minimal, as are your chances of getting ganked if you were on a pvp server. I preferred doing my level 30 start up quests there so that when I strode into STV after, I had a few extra levels on me to help deal with the heavy competition/ganks you're much more likely to find there. It won't protect you against level 60 griefers, but if you're doing quests or of your own level, you'll be slightly ahead of them if you took some time to do your Desolace quests first. There were upsides to going there. If you were a herbalist, I wouldn't have recommended it, though. Not a lot of good things to pick there. STV or Arathi highlands would be better places to go for the flower pickers.

@@Zack_Wester As an alliance player who went to play horde for the zones and experience, I can confirm that is 100% BS. Horde zones are pretty lame. Edit: Not to mention getting in and out of the undercity was a pain in the ass until you had a flight point.

My first ever character was a human mage so I remember that zone well, I had my first experience meeting horde there as there was constant world pvp around sentinel hill on my realm back then, something which continued in an albeit diminished form all the way into wrath. It has always been a favorite zone of mine which I've always quested through with other races as well. Fun fact, the first time I ever ran deadmines I was so taken with it that I forgot to loot Vancleefs head at the end and had to get a second group to complete the quest chain! I can see why you've had that Mandella Effect moment, you're thinking of the quest chain from Magistrate Solomon in lakeshire which sends you to both stormwind, westfall and duskwood, that chain happens not long after finishing with westfall so it is easy to think of the two as one and the same. Plus I always went through duskwood on the first quest from Stoutmantle as I could not be bothered with the safe route through elwynn.

Loved this, hope you do more like it. Perhaps follow the natural zone progression for the various races. Vanilla WoW's lore has always been my favorite and I love hearing/reading about it. The addition of the gameplay aspect of the zones and its occupants adds a nice fresh spice to it that I personally haven't come across. Also for a fun fact, the Defias Pillagers hit so hard due to having a Fireball spell that's one rank higher than they should have or something along those lines. Essentially a level 18 player Mage's spell on a level 14/15 NPC. And apparently back in vanilla it was found the Defias Pillager was the second deadliest enemy in the game, second only to a fucking raid boss.

I later transfered my alliance rogue to horde and never went back. Warrior is an ace class and another one I first started with in bc though mine was draenei, I've since made another warrior on a WotLK classic server so I could experience levelling one again, except this time it is a dwarf with that racial to remove infuriating diseases and such, it's amazing how powerful arms is at low levels in wrath, you can basically one shot most mobs with a decent weapon enchanted with crusader and that glyph for the extra crit on victory rush. I randomly got that dragonslayer buff on me at level 15 so I spent all two hours of it running around near the deadmines portal actually one shotting absolutely everything, I gained 5 levels doing that before the buff ran out, was epic fun.

The city’s with some people is the ones in the latest expansion. WoW started to die with the burning crusade and wrath of the lich king when the players got scattered all over the world but we didn’t understand it then as we had our huge guilds and WoW friends from all over Europe. And then the lore and reruns of old content with new bad guys and locations it got more and more confusing and then cataclysm hit and later on mists of pandaria. Here the player count was dropping rapidly!.
