Vanity Units, very popular with customers giving bathrooms a stylish look while giving you storage options and concealing all the pipework. Most of the time they are straight forward plumbing jobs, However there are some hidden elements that might make this simple plumbing task a little more awkward.
We will show you how to remove a pedestal and basin and also how to remove a wall hung basin. Sometimes removing these are not straight forward and leave you with more plumbing work than your first thought.
After that we will show you how to install 2 different types of vanity units also showing what fittings we would recommended when trying to so this plumbing task.

Alright bud I never worked on one of these yet, but remember seeing it in my plumbing course book, I think they are call "Semi-pedestal wash basin. What a pain with all that silicone at the back of the basin. Surely it should have come with a fixing kit so just needed a bead of silicone around the back instead of a whole tube. You can tell the perfectionist in you was fighting with the thought of having to leave the vanity unit downstairs as it was but you pretty much polished a turd customer got to be be happy that you went above and beyond to make it look as good as you left it in the end. Thanks for the warning.

Good man great job again mate and your presentation and how you interact with the viewers is very good. I’ve used a reciprocating saw on the back of a cistern it did the job but unfortunately I scraped the paint off the wall. It’s very hard to watch every thing all you can do is your best. Superb mate keep up the excellent work. Must get a Dudley basin waste looks fab.

All of the previous comments very valid, but I have found even being methodical and patient on jobs like this, I have removed a sink and still managed to crack the tiles, just from the movement and everything else-this is how it is sometimes, you end up being multi skilled as a plumber, nothing straightforward sometimes, deceptively simple job

Love watching your work as a fellow plumber. You potentially could have use a reciprocating saw with a metal blade to cut down the back of the old sink. That way you would have cut the foam/silicone and the fixing bolts clean. Anyway keep up the great work 👍

Great video as always I had a job a few years ago where they had silicone all the cistern to the wall all the way down. All I could use was a wood saw took me nearly 2 hours just so I could get it off the wall and the loo. So I can empathise with you there . Was it possible to fit a 90 bend on the waste behind the back panel up and and then another pointing to the trap , that way you'd only have a scallop off the top of the back panel instead of the hole you drilled. Either way great job. The vanity upstairs I carry a bag of spacers from screwfix cost about 20 quid so ideal for things such as out of level floors and on wc pans & the pack lasts ages . My only gripe with those basin mates is that rubber washer is so tight to get on and if you are sealing the waste fitting through the top of the basin with silicone it becomes a messy job !! I prefer the macalpine variant. But hey whatever works fella 👍👍

That's what I thought too, Everbuild pink grip adhesive. I'm only a diyer watching the video and having the luxury of thinking time which is easy, although having done that, one option that springs to mind might be a wire rope saw to allow it to go behind the sink and be flexible; still an arse ache and I'm only a diyer though.

You’re using the silicone tool the wrong way round mate. It’s massively counter intuitive but the flat side pushes towards the silicone you’re removing. Tapered side towards the back. Don’t take my word for it watch a few Fugi tool vids etc. It did make a difference for me when I switched it round

Full marks for pulling it back out of the bag well done. As for the dudly basin mate, I've been using them for years and never let me until recently, but what made it worse was me telling the customer how good they are and that they will never leak only for the customer to say is that a leak I can see ? On further investigation, I discovered that the basin waste hole was badly formed, and a tiny gap was visible. I managed to overcome it by tightening it up with my big boy spanner to within an inch of its life 🤏🤞
