Facebook and other social media has killed van life. Had 20 years at it. Used to be under the radar. Not anymore.
@sgw890316 сағат бұрын
I doubt you will like the answer but I will give it a go... The increasing restrictions are being implimented to address the problems resulting from the massive increase in the amount of vans on the roads. A significant proportion of whom have little knowlage and often little respect for the countryside. The increase in vans is the result of social media grifters/influencers selling a fantasy lifestyle.
@rockgsxr7 сағат бұрын
what are these massive problems exactly.
@rockgsxr6 сағат бұрын
when i had a truck( tall rather than long) saddos often came out of their front doors and complained wherever i parked it, these same types loved lockdown and jibjabs, they are a real stereotype, they hate and i do mean hate anyone who pursues freedom, they see you as a threat or something. Luckily i am 40minutes from Dover so when my van is ready it is only going in one direction, off this poxy island.

Europe is so different to vanlife. Once I came back from Europe I could see clearly how people disposed us.

Oh, come on. Hatred is a stretch. A strong dislike, maybe, but hatred - not at all. It's like comparing it to something like war, which is not the case. I agree; the guy in the Landrover wasn't very civil - but war didn't break out. There have always been disagreements. It's is not exclusive to van life. Most of the time, a reasonable middle ground is reached. It just takes time. Defend your rights.

Re the guy in the land rover. War almost broke out. I wished him a merry Christmas 😆 I drove away with him shouting a lot more but didn't hear it. I was kind of hoping he would see he had been an ass. But nope. I'd accept dislike is OK for most. But then I've also got to try to get views too. Hope you appreciate that. Thanks for commenting, and watching. Have a great Christmas.

Seems ok to take your eyes off the rd talking to and moving cameras around while driving but illegal to use a phone while driving...
@RoadshomeКүн бұрын
Yes it is. Obviously because it's a camera on a tripod not a phone as the footage can be used as evidence proof. Law states hand held devices capableof steaming media. A camera on a fixed tripod isn't either. The same goes for using a CB radio while driving. Current law says its OK.

I’ve been doing van life for 10 years been up and down the country, never had a problem with anyone parked up or driving. just be considerate be kind be respectful learn to give way to others when you can and always leave the place you stay at tidy and no disrespect to you, but I think all these people on social media who talk about these problems I think it’s just them trying to make a conversation about something to keep there channel going stop worrying about others and live your life’s how you want to just be kind and respectful treat others how you wish to be treated. Merry Christmas everyone.🎄🍻🫶🏻

This is a very crowded overpopulated island which makes people agitated and get on each others nerves our road network is not up to handling the amount of traffic we have which also frustrates people this is at least part of the problem.

You think the Land Rover driver is against Vanlifers...? Maybe he just didn't like something else.... the way you drove, the way you articulated to him....or something else? Or maybe he's like that with everyone, not just Vanlifers?

I have a Motorhome I brought new earlier this year, although I'm not full time (because of health issues) I spend more time on the road than at home, and health permitting I won't rule out being full time in the future. I haven't experienced any notable negativity from anyone apart from a couple of fellow van owners. I think if you wake up in the morning in your van expecting negativity from others you will get to the point where you start to look for it, that's when it becomes unhealthy and if you are not careful can impact your mental health.

It's lies mate, to turn town folk against us, make people dislike us. To try to make us pay for camp sites. Little do they know most camp sites don't declare most of their profit anyway. They would do better chasing the tax dodge from sites.

Back in the 80s it was still possible to live hassle-free on the road in a vehicle, and freedom and personal liberty still meant a lot to many people. In 85 the Battle of the Beanfield and the fact that police pretty much got away with the most horrendous crimes, strongly suggested the beginning of the end of anything that wasn't compliant to state/corporate control. Today "vanlife" is not something that not even vaguely suggests any sense of freedom or personal liberty, and the lifestyle for some is so dreary and mundane that videos about taking 2 dumps in one day are now being made. When freedom and personal liberty are so unimportant, it is easy to see why your attempts to resist ending living in vehicles for good, are met with such hostility and derision.

I’ve bought a motorhome recently with the idea of having some freedom been out in it a couple of times and never encountered any negativity towards us I think it’s just the minority of people who think we are freeloaders and clearly that’s not the case.
@RoadshomeКүн бұрын
When you consider buying a motorhome or campervan is probably going to be the next biggest investment other than a house, the word freeloader from those who are quick to use it should be considered a little more carefully. Plus the fact the cost of travelling and visiting areas around the UK. If thought about motorhome and campervan users are improving the UK economy, tourism and spreading our wealth while we do so.

Only been in my motorhome for 6 months, not experienced what I would call hatred… a couple of toots when parked up and a cyclist complaining my van was too big for the road (to which I replied, how do the farmers get their tractors round these roads then?!).
@Roadshome6 сағат бұрын
I had a cyclist shout free loader outside my van twice now. It was when I was uploading a video and parked at Morecambe prom. I would have liked him to stop and talk to me, so I could understand why he thought someone who had worked served paid taxes for 40+ years in the uk wasn't aloud to retire and enjoy some life. It would have made an interesting video don't you think.

I've posted my views on this many times, including on your channel and I suspect that you know exactly why people get uptight about people thinking that they can park wherever they like and use the facilities that others who live in the area pay for via their council fees and whatever else. Here during the health thing travellers were banned from many places simply due to the fact that health services in the area couldn't handle the extra people if there was an outbreak, it wasn't about how you're trying to make it out to be. Ironically you walked past a sign that said that private fishing isn't allowed, I think, so do you think that everyone should be allowed to do it ? I suspect that social media has a lot to do with it as well. It's like the 4wd scene here I suspect. One big channel will post a video about a place, all the wannabes head there, cause chaos and the area gets shut down. Then the channel that contributed to the issue complain about the closures.
@Roadshome19 сағат бұрын
If the land belongs to someone then NO they shouldn't just go fish there. But a lot of the land here in the UK that I have issues with is land that is open access or public land. We have access but if you can't park or stop it's not really open access. A bit like saying you can go swim in the sea but don't walk on the sand. Unless you pay or in some places just don't walk on the sand. I've always considered Australia a place you can still have an adventure. Is that the case or are the restrictions limiting where you can go ? Could you just load up a landie and drive for miles ?
@oldbloke20419 сағат бұрын
@@Roadshome Australia is pretty blessed in terms of where we can go from what I've seen. Having said that we're having increasing issues with the amount of people who are doing it as well. I spoke to my mechanic recently and he used to do 4wd trips years ago and often didn't see another person. Nowadays even very remote and hard to travel tracks are busy. People lining up for the Instagram pic. in the middle of nowhere is pretty common now. Popular tourist spots are usually extremely busy and often booked out. Plenty of options to camp and pay for the privilege and I can understand why people who spend a fortune on a beachfront property don't want a heap of vans parked in front of them. I probably wouldn't choose a Landie as my 4wd here as I like to get there and back but the older ones sure do look the business though.🤣🤣 If you like space to roam then you would love it here imo.

@oldbloke20420 сағат бұрын
No I expect it happened when YT and other social media started to push and advertise this sort of lifestyle and people were all rushing to the picture postcard destinations to do the same thing imo. Fact is that most want all the benefits of living or staying in these areas but aren't paying for the privilege of doing so. We live in a very popular tourist area and pay rates and taxes accordingly which pay for the upkeep and provision of facilities etc and there are businesses who cater to those with vans, caravans and whatever else. Even people on narrowboats, or other boats, have to pay all sorts of fees for the use and maintenance of the systems they use but many seem to think that it shouldn't apply to those in vans who want to all park up at the seaside?
