This tune is also widespread in Norway, with a number of regional variations and lyrics. A number of regions consider this tune representative of their regional tradition. To be so deeply embedded in the music of so many regions in Scandinavia, this must be an old tune that traveled far in its day!

The gods are smiled at me when I found your channel. I have an addiction to culture, folksongs and folklore. Specially European. It is heartwarming to see how you love your culture and tunes. We must protect that at any cost, in my understanding this is how we are living through life and death. Our language and culture is the most important thing to preserve. I would listen to your singing untill the sky starts falling. My heart is full of joy, when I watching your videos. Thank you Emelie, you restored my faith in humanity.

Thank you ! I am quite shy with my voice. I love to sing (I sing all the time at home and at work) (I work in agriculture so it's not like I would disturb people in a room ^^) but my voice is quite unstable and I never practiced it "seriously" so I feel I'm not at all at a similar level with it than with fiddle and nyckelharpa. Working on it though.
@tim5cad2033 жыл бұрын
@@EmelieWaldken Well you definitely sound a lot better than I do. My dad's music teacher, when he was in high school, told him that he would pass the class with a C if he promised to never sing again. That shows the musical talent in my family. I couldn't clap to a church choir without messing it up.

Also I'm curious about the pronunciation of "Öland" compared to "Åland".
@EmelieWaldken6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much ! Öland starts with a sound like the [u] in "bus" or "ahum" in english, more or less. Aaland (sorry, can't type nor copy-paste the a-bubble today, computer is stupid) begins with a very deep and round [o], a bit like "Oowh". Kinda.

Ive got a proposition for you : could you do videos where you explain things and others with only the music ? 😃

You may already explain this on a different video, but how did you first meet the nyckelharpa, and was it a long time ago?
@EmelieWaldken2 жыл бұрын
Around 11 years ago, I was very interested in learning to play it (had heard & seen it in a few different folk bands) and a friend of mine had just started doing so, she invited me over to a week-end course and I got my first 'harpa into my arms...

I made it ;) It's embroidered, cotton thread on cotton fabric, dyed with coffee. It's not fully finished yet ^^ I was so confused with all the regions when I went to Sweden for the first time that I decided to make a map of Sweden. Then I added Norway and then Danemark and now I'm on the baltic countries ^^

Hej Emelie, thanks for the advice on bows earlier =) . I've been using the Gewa bow and it's a lot better! One thing still has me stumped and that's positioning. Holding the nyckelharpa in a comfortable position seems to be an arcane art, with many people having their own ideas about it. Standing up I've been experimenting with Didier Francois' positioning as opposed to the traditional one which was causing issues with my right shoulder. One thing that bothers me when sitting down is reaching the highest keys. How do you reach those when you're sitting like in this video? My leg always seems to be in the way!

@gerald40136 жыл бұрын
@EmelieWaldken6 жыл бұрын

Well believe it or not but I work outdoors and physically (on a farm). I've always been very thin, it's my nature. My entire family is pretty much like that. I do need to train my strength to avoid overloading my tendons and to manage with things I want to do, but training is good for everyone anyways !
