People don't realise the reason Ronaldo is compared to Messi is not due to talent but due to the media wanting a rivalry to make it more entertaining. Ronaldo's status comes from media hype, his own bravado and fans not wanting to admit Messi has no equal. Ronaldo is an amazing player and has proven hard work can match natural talent but not with Messi. The Ballon D'or is a 'team success' trophy because if it was based on natural talent and ability, Messi wins it casually.
