Variegated Alocasia Frydek || plant chores, propagating & repotting!

My Variegated Alocasia Frydek is one of my biggest and most beautiful plant rescues. It has been long overdue for a repot and because the pot is overcrowded, i decided to propagate it by separation.
I also found some camera, but that is a story for another day! In this video I mix up my aroid mix, separate the root ball, propagate the plant and repot/pot into 5 different plants. So now I have 5 variegated Alocasia Frydek instead of one!

Hahahahaha I also have a potting addiction it’s one of my favorite things to do and record it! It can be quite an expensive habit. I heard Molly’s is pretty good from Wildfern another creator on UTube. I edited my comment to agree with you. It does take such a long time to do all the repot work! I have spent a few hours on it and then editing the video…woosh, but fun! One thing I would recommend is to move your camera down more when potting so we can see it. It’s taken me 18 videos to become aware of where my camera is at 😅, but for the viewer that is why we watch it.

I love repotting too but you are right it does take ages hahaha. I will say the editing while long is not as bad as plant tours so i am glad i did one of those early on and got it out of the way so everything else will seem painless in comparison 😂😂😂. I love Wildfern, her videos are so soothing. She is totally right, I’m really impressed with the Molly’s Aroid mix. I haven’t tried the others yet, but I will soon. You are right, I definitely need to work on the camera placement. It’s super tricky with a floor repot, but moving it lower would help. It’s much easier when I’m repotting at a table, so hopefully the smaller repots will be easier to show properly on camera.

@@Monefsjungle my camera somehow or another ended up portrait mode in a 16:9 setting and I’ve come to find I really like it. No more cutting my head off or losing the pot! 🥳🤣 I’m glad you like the Molly’s that may be a good alternate at some point for me.

We use very plants Mollys mixes here in Canada, easy to get and not TOO expensive, I adore it, I make my own mixes for the most part, adding to the aroid Mollys mix except the succulent mix I leave alone, it’s perfect for me, it’s our version of Soil Ninja from the UK I adore all the colours you wear, I love colour too, but it looks way better against your beautiful skin than my pasty whiteness 😂 Those frydeks need stakes or just tie the petioles together

You are so lucky to have had Molly’s all this time. We are only just starting to get it here! Like you I usually make my own mix but this is really great to have on hand and just maybe mix in one or two other bits that I like. Definitely saves me buying so many components and space which is pretty huge in NYC. I did stake the frydeks first a couple days to let them settle in but now they are rerooting and already don’t need the stakes anymore. It’s wild how fast frydeks grow, some of the fastest alocasias I have!

Hi neighbor!!! I wet them first to reduce the shock of the repotting on the roots and help it bounce back more easily in the new environment.
