That whole monologue from Mark Ruffalo on how RDJ has done it all and doesn't have to prove anything to anyone is honestly some beautiful stuff to hear from a friend.
@SandraHertel-u3b

Hit it on the head. RDJ basically saying, if you think you’ve done it all you have nothing left to do and reach for. So, you have to go int a new project you’re keen about with the mindset, you haven’t done it all or you’d just wither away. That goes for a lot of things. I didn’t realize they have known each other for so long,

@@Gnossiene369 Easy thing to say from someone who's not in the industry. You do form bonds with some people you come across in the industry. And when Mark said when he first met RDJ back in the mid-90s, that was when RDJ was known, but getting into a lot of trouble. And they met through mutual colleagues. That does indeed happen.

I love when rdj stops cracking jokes and becomes serious for a second. He’s so well spoken and smart and appreciative of his colleagues and says so many interesting and insightful things. Yeah he is probably Tony Stark forever, for us and for the next generation and he probably realises this. But the fact that he keeps pushing himself higher and higher when as Mark said there’s nothing left to prove is admirable and inspiring. He was so open about his doubts to act out of marvel again and he did a freaking amazing job. He deserves this Oscar as no one else this year. And coming back to the old theme, his story is undoubtedly the greatest redemption arc a man could ask for.

RDJ didn't just start the MCU but you can see he inspired the other actors , attracted them to the projects, and then got them all going and wanting to be on their A game. This comment kind of explains why some new MCU projects are subpar. There isn't much of a connection between the cast like before. Like GOTG3 did well cause its the same cast and they know each other really well...but others like the marvels are just actors acting y'know. Tells a lot.

Honestly my favorite part of this interview is towards the beginning, when Robert and Mark are talking about feeling like they have to prove themselves to people. Mark tells Robert that he doesn’t need to do that, Robert brings up his Dad, and Mark says that he did and in a beautiful way. I don’t know why that moment sticks out to me so much. Maybe it’s because it’s comforting to know that even this great guy I look up to who is almost in his 60’s still feels like he needs the approval of his parents and is still at least a bit insecure about it, or maybe it’s because Mark was being such a caring friend in that moment saying that he did get acceptance from his Dad and that the documentary Sr. was a beautiful film. I haven’t seen many people talk about that moment, but it stuck out to me so much that I had to get my thoughts out there. Apparently, when you don't understand somebody's sensitivity, emotional depth, empathy and confidence, then of course you feel that the first order of business is to mock them, attempt to belittle and deride an entire type of human being in an attempt to use that group, a group which obviously frightens you and causes you to feel uncomfortable, in order to insult the individual who made you feel uncomfortable in the first place, in a pathetic attempt to try to make yourself feel superior, which to all who are watching you, shows you to be just the opposite. Ruffalo was awful as the hulk and the worst MCU casting BY FAR, because they usually cast really well. Norton's Banner was a million times better than Ruffalos and i feel like most OG "True Believers" would agree with that.

@@nunyabizwacks6711BOOOO this man and his comment!👎lol jokes aside (and the fact that you chose to be relatively negative on a positive thread...), your comment withstands in terms of Norton being and overall "better representation of the character", that does not negate the chemistry Downey and Ruffalo shared on screen in any capacity. They gave us some of the best friendship, engagement and in many, ways immense character growth, in the series. It still shows itself in their actual friendship now. So yeah, "True Believer" you got your point across, but it was poor in taste. TL;DR: Chin up True Believer, we all have our favorites. EXCELSIOR!😎😉

The connection between these two, despite being so inherently different at the core of their being, is really touching to see. You can see that they are more than friends They are part of each other's tribe. And yet the conversations they have about the art of acting should be required viewing for young actors who want to create great characters, not just make movies and money. You can hear in their voices that both of these actors are so grateful that they got to be a part of the larger industry movies But that their hearts are in creating characters with depth that make you question everything.

I agree, I think Robert sometimes hides behind his false bravado to hide the fact that he still has insecurities despite all that he's accomplished. He is human after all. When he was on Jimmy Kimmel and talking about taking a beta blocker before the Emma's. He talked about being nervous and Jimmy was surprised and Robert said "I am a human". People tend to forget that because he has such a large persona. I love all his movies and I don't think he gets enough credit for his past work.

These two might be huge names now, and they may be part of this behemoth called the Marvelverse, but they began as indie darlings and as craftsmen. And I see in this conversation that a lot of their bond is based on still being able to see that indie darling craftsman in the other, even as they are also one of the biggest and best known faces on the planet. Two men who truly inspire awe in each other, are comfortable being vulnerable together, and who continue to be curious about, and deeply in love with what they do. The part where Mark compliments Robert on how in Oppenheimer, he plays a character that is so different from what he usually does, I think that holds a lot of significance. Despite proving to us countless times that he is an actor who is more than capable in his craft, Downey still is ready to push himself and do more characters, it strongly lies in in his core to be an actor. I think the most frightening part of being an actor is when people start looking at your characters as a version of your off-screen persona, like the time when boundaries between him and his character iron man was so blurred in general, it was evident that nothing would be able to surpass his time as iron man. When an actor plays a role, they want to be recognized as that character in that particular film, then move on to the next part. But I can't even imagine the kind of turmoil a passionate actor like him had to go through when he played this character for such a long period of time. The magnanimity of tony stark was befitting to Downey's real life personality. He basically made that character as an extension of himself. I love tony stark to death, he has been an important figure throughout my teenage life and adulthood, his character is almost reverential to most of our generation. It was very difficult to evade the imposition of this character on to Downey's real life personality. To have one singular act counted has your legacy as a thought can be scary. But then he turns around to play Levi Strauss and it was phenomenal, easily one of the best performances of the year. So when Ruffalo mentions that he delivered that performance with all the details packed in with a crisp, basically us audiences not seeing the character for HIM but for what the character is, I think its a huge compliment. Its true that his cultural footprint will be huge as a part of the marvel franchise, but it won't be limited to that only. He has delivered some of the best performances that need to be revisited again and again, and I think that is essentially what makes him one of the finest actors around the world.
