Yeess, most of these red carpet/awards show type interviews are drivel about who's gonna win (an outcome most people won't even remember 5-10 years from now), who are you wearing, or basically just asking the interviewees to fall over themselves gushing about their collaborators and fellow nominees, which gets very, very boring and repetitive, and most answers end up slipping into autopilot as a natural result. I like questions that actually have attendees talking about what they like _about_ certain movies/roles, to reveal their tastes and personalities.

That’s actually a great idea. People would relate so much more to them than talking about whatever $20k dress/suit they bought for one use.

Loved Aftersun and the Whale, and funnily enough I almost never cry when I watch movies but I cried during the endings of both Aftersun and the Whale haha. I saw them on the same day! Aftersun first and The Whale half an hour later ! In my opinion Brendan Fraser deserves the Oscar a bit more...Paul Mescal's performance was great but it was understandably more repressed and internalized than Brendan Fraser's performance which was more out there and therefore he showed more of his acting chops, although I do like an understated performance, don't get me wrong. I just feel like Brendan Fraser's character was much more present whereas Paul Mescal's character was more absent and fluctuating due to the dual nature of his character, giving Fraser more time to shine.

Love that Kwan mentioned Women Talking and raising sons. Absolutely insane story behind that film - "insane" in that it's horrific, not that it's farfetched. I have to say. I am SO elated for Brendan. His comeback has been SO well deserved, so dreamlike, and also thank God it wasn't Austin Butler lol. But My God, Paul Mescal in Aftersun has become one of my favorite performances of all time. So of course he is my personal win for 2022. But the fact Paul got nominated, is in itself a win too considering I never thought he would get nominated for a performance as understated as his in "Aftersun".

Top Gun Maverick came for me out of left field. Maverick struggling with the responsibility of not only teaching them how to do something impossible but also trying to salvage his relationship with his surrogate son was not the level of depth I was expecting in an action blockbuster. Mav's scene with Ice is absolutely brutal and a wonderful bit of acting. I really hope Top Gun wins best picture even though I'm not usually for the large tentpole films - it's just too good as a bit of filmmaking to ignore
