You should block it at the exhaust manifold with a thicker diamond shaped plate and also using a thicker rectangular plate without holes, block it at the inlet manifod. The reason being there is a 90 degrees corrugated bend in the EGR aluminium pipe, just below the throttle body which can't take the back pressure and over time splits causing the car to go into limp mode and rendering the pipe useless. Seen it happen a few times using this method.

If I have the EGR deleted in the ECU with a software upgrade, do I still need to blank the EGR? I also have black smoke on hard acceleration, any ideas? Alfa Romeo 147 JTDm 8v 2006 180.000km.

@@CostaTropicaldeGranada Black smoke is a sign of over fueling. Check all your vacuum and charge pipes thoroughly for splits and cracks. Even the smallest hidden split can cause this. If air is escaping after the MAF then you'll have the wrong air/fuel mixture metered by the ECU in the combustion chamber.

@CostaTropicaldeGranada hello. Yes, is better to black it. Like I showed on a previous video on a 147. For the smoke can be the intake hose between the MAF and the turbo. Can also be an intercooler pipe

Once upon a time I brought my car to a mechanic, who told me that I have my DPF switched off in ECU.. I checked up DPF before buying a car. It had around 30% pollution and there were no plug installed. But, he knows better I thought, and admitted installing a plug. 50 km later I heard loud whistle from under the bonnet. I went back. He told me my turbo is dead. 1.5 thousands for turbo + 1 thousand for a job. I convinced him to remove a plug for free and he heard me leaving him forever with no whistle.

Hello i bought a 159 with 1.9 16 valve diesel after driving car home 100kms on freeway to my horror when i opened bonnet a big oil leak from charge pipe oil all over firewall of car changed oring and oil leak persists any ideas? Thanks.

Hello. You may have a ruptured pipe. Follow the one that comes from the intake to the intercooler. That one usually goes bad.

Hello. The down sides are the higher combustion temperatures , more NoX emissions. On the plus side, no clogging

And with the down sides, you can't do anything about. But with the plus side, you can just rutinelly clean it. So I realy don't see any positive in doing this. Just emmiting more poison that people behind you need to breath in...

Hello. Do a totally closed one. If it resolves you have a stuck egr valve. Clean it very well and then use a restricted version of the gasket.

Why do FIAT/Alfa diesel engines take a long cranking to start (like 40 seconds or so) after the EGR is removed, cleaned and put back?

Hello. All that time, normally injectors or hi pressure fuel pump is bad. Or you mean right after doing the egr? Carbon falls in to the intake valves and they cannot close all the way. Compression is missed

Same with all diesel engines. Nobody bothers to cleam them, so when they clog up and start making problems, they just block it off and let other people deal with that problem (by breathing in more poison gasses)...

@@alfaromeonoproblem I think that swirl "problems" are also caused just by lack of maintenence (lack of cleaning). So when they gunk up and seize, of course, they can break.
