I agree. I am 54 and I watched these every Tuesday night way, way back in the 1960's. Two of my favorites were Mountain Man, and Silver Service. Anyway, thanks for posting these. I don't watch TV any more.There is nothing on that is any good. But these old shows are great.

Combat was my favorite show on tv when I was a kid. It was a tremendous influence in my life as I couldn't wait to grow up and join the Army. I went to Viet Nam and Germany and was promoted to be a staff sergeant by the time I left the service. Sgt. Saunders was my idol for decades. I still have and collect toy soldiers, military models, military books and even GI Joe's.

Ricardo Montalban made this episode ... He was a passionate actor and it shows ... He should have been marked as one of The Greatest Actors Ever

Yet ANOTHER Great Episode! Thanks for posting all of these great episodes of "Combat!". If you have more, please share. You don't know how much it is truly appreciated. Thanks, Randy

This is back when shows’ writers had values. They wove their values into their screenplays. That’s why so many of us watched “Combat” with our parents (or with their approval). Parents then could trust what we watched.

Funny you mentioned parents. Just yesterday I mentioned to my mother KZbin having Combat episodes and she replied "oh yes I remember them we all had to watch because you wanted too ! Then she mentioned 12o clock High.. hahaha

Like French Jews, French gypsies were persecuted not only by the Germans but by the Vichy French as well. 6500 French gypsies were interned by the Vichy government. About 100 died in French internment camps. Hundreds of others were transported to concentration camps. The gypsies were not released until 1946, long after even French collaborators.

An excellent episode, up there in the top 5. Glad that the Gypsy had a chance to torture the German colonel a little bit.

This was a pretty decent episode. Not among Combat!'s best, but even Combat!'s worst episodes are better than most shows today.

Bazooka or grenade launcher......the answer to that is this.....it costs less to produce 1 rifele than it costs to produce 1 bazooka or grenade launcher....the only grenade launcher available was a muzzle loaded grenade that could be affixed to the barrel of the M-1. This was not always available to ALL troops as it was reserved for the troops that could possibly encounter heavy armor (tanks, half-tracks, etc). So for every 10 rifles, 1 bazooka was available. Not enough for all troops.

Looks like Montalban got a top secret Sten gun like Sgt. Saunders and his 10000 round Thompson. Dang gun just never needed reloading. And as for the SS death head officer, heck I'd have let them skin him alive.
@denisehorner84484 жыл бұрын
I saw Sgt. Saunders reload at least once when he was in the culvert running to join the gypsies. He has extra mags or magazines in his jacket -- 20 round loads -- and slaps a new one in as needed. I've also seen Caje reload his 8-round M1 Garand plenty of times. The clip pops out of his gun when it's empty and he inserts another 8-round clip in at the top of the rifle.
@dindinprivate34774 жыл бұрын
@@denisehorner8448 Yes, same here. There are however episodes where Saunders can fire forever w/o reloading LOL

@@denisehorner8448 A very attentive observation. But I still don't understand how such a German infantry squad with machine gun could be destroyed by a bunch of partisans - If only I were one of the Wehrmacht soldiers here, I would never expected that - In my opinion the situation is clear, the partisans will be eliminated by us for sure. But how can the situation change so sharply?!

sue barkerb - I grew up without a TV in the 60’s & 70’s, neighbors all had TVs but we didn’t and we weren’t allowed to go and watch it. So I just discovered this show this past year. How, different all of us are what you list as your two favorites (Mountain Man and Silver Service) are two of my least favorites, go figure. But your right there’s not much good on TV these days.

as always, economy rules, remember when the iraki guys did not have enough cash invested on them to have personal armour? Groups gathered to buy them armor in several us cities, armot was bought....goverment does not care about people
@13thBear6 жыл бұрын
eduardo m-v Its not that the government doesn't care, it's that the government is too big and too impersonal and moves very slowly. It, literally, takes an "act of congress" to allocate the money for the military services to purchases the body armor to ship to the soldiers that need it in combat. Yes, some groups donated money to buy some body armor to some troops. It was much easier and much faster for individuals to buy items and mail them to their sons and husbands. So stop showing your ignorance of the American government and how it works with your knee-jerk reaction to popular nonsense, rumors and third hand stories.
